Was the 360 dpad really THAAT bad?
No, it was worse.
it was shit but it didn't matter, who the fuck cared about the dpad on the 360?
Early 360 controllers had the mushiest dpads imaginable. However, I swear they did something to improve it in later revisions. I bought a wireless black one brand new over a decade ago and I still regularly use it for 2D platformers. It's not mushy like the old wired one I used to have.
>Splosion Man on Xbox 360>You can't use the D-pad>Ms Splosion Man on Steam>You can use the D-padDo the math.
>>737860896it's serviceable for clicking through menus. fighting game autists were the only ones who truly hated it.
>>737860896I never had any issues with the dpad, I never even noticed if it was even bad or not. And what 360 games even uses the dpad?
Gamecube D-Pad and 360 D-Pad should be a gay nerds fighting competition
>>737860896I saw a dude 1cc mushi in ultra with a 360 pad so really if you're good at games you're good at games just use what you got
SNES and Saturn dpadz have literally never been topped. Just pick one or the other depending on if you want a cross or 8way pad
>>737860896It's so sloppy it's basically a third analog stick, similar to how the Wii nunchuck had an analog stick that was basically a d-pad. If you had nothing to compare it to it was easy to get used to but otherwise it had a shit reputation for a reason. The seventh gen overall was a bad time for controllers.
>>737860896The launch dpad was shitty but the revision put it at parity with the saturn
>>737860896It was awful. Instead of using that piece of shit whenever possible I just ignored whatever function it was tied to.
>>737860896It was great if you wanted to push 4 directions all at once. It was like a controller surprise mechanic.
>>737860896It was only bad for fighting games and platformers. They didn't make anything besides shooters for the 360 so it worked well enough for that purpose.
>>737860896Every controller has dogshit dpadNo dpad could ever replace the feel of keyboard
>>737862714Retard has no idea what the point of a d-pad is. Just sit this one out mustard you don't know shit about video games.
>>737861326>you will never hear a new lonny watershed song againwhy is life so unfair
>>737860896>dpadit's a random diagonal generator.
>>737860896There's only been like 3 good dpads in the history of gaming, most of them just didn't read inputs right, are too mushy, too firm or just broke after some extended use (looking at you hori). Or didn't work out of the box (Xbox series X, 8bitdo, powerA)There's been objectively only a handful of good dpad designs.-SNES pad is the goat and lasts literally decades unless you're a romhack speedrunner mariotard-Playstation controllers up to early ps3, after that Sony designed them to break for more money-Sega Saturn when new and depending on what 3rd party if you get 3rd party.
>>737864607This just made me think, what's the worst analog stick in history? N64?
>>737864696For durability absolutely, its complete and utter trash. Which is ironic, because with how its built its actually 10x more accurate down to a pixel over modern controllers. The physical gears in it give you ridiculous amounts of pixel perfect accuracy. It's actually ludicrous. Thats why when people were selling modded steel sticks for them they sold out instantly.
>>737864875There was nothing worse than going to a friends house and they had a limp stick, if you know what I'm saying.
>>737865012LMFAOOOO
>>737864875>>737864696>>737865012Yeah I had an N64 as a kid and I never broke a stick, but I believe the people that did (especially in Mario Party)But as I moved on to other consoles and controllers, it struck me that I never found a stick that accurate again. That I could run and land headshots on moving enemies in Perfect Dark *almost* as well as I could in a keyboard+mouse FPS, and I sure as fuck couldn't come close to that with any other controller.I thought I was imagining it.
>>737865483Don't forget there's other elements though. The jump from latency free CRT to dogshit LCD's was a huge factor in precision.
>>737860896It was fuckin horrible and I distinctly remember it being significantly easier to move and do tricks on harmony of despair's ps3 version
>>737868438what the tow are you on about
It was absolute fucking dogshitIt was this round stiff little piece of shit that would decide to input whatever cardinal direction it pleased. No, I wouldn't even recommend it for menuing.
If you only played console shooters then it was serviceableIf you played platformers and fighting it was the worst thing ever, especially when fighting games got revived with SF4 and the 360 was the console of choice for that gameanyways it all got fixed with the series x so fuck this controller
>>737868470You're so fucking mentally ill and obsessive, holy shit. This is next levels of obsessive mental illness.
Anyone remember the 360 controller with a transforming dpad?
i remember the controllers that gears of war 3 launched with where you could twist the dpad and turn it from a disc to a true 4 way dpad and it was great
>>737860896If you're just using it for menuing, it's serviceable. But god help you if you were playing a game in which precision is required.Fighting games were basically unplayable with it, which is ironic since they claim it was designed for fighting games.
>>737860896Yes, it was pretty bad. As soon as the PS3 got games in '08, I switch over to that console just so I wouldn't have to deal with the 360's horrible D-pad anymore. That and my 360 RROD'd.
