Why would someone play a video game for the story? Story rich video games usually put gameplay on the backburner so its like you are playing a glorified visual novel with subpar mechanics shoehorned in between walls of text or lengthy cinematics.
I'd gonna go out on a limb here and say that 95% of games that focus the story are inferior to books, movies and even tv shows (that are known to bloat their stories so they can stretch seasons).
Like what the fuck is the point? You people are ruining the game industry.

sony figured out that boome rnormies don't have the energy for vidya anymore in this shitty would we have built for ourselves
so they invented the movie game
that way boomers can think they're playing a game but is in fact just watching a tv show

if you can't enjoy a kino story complimenting a fun game, you're not human.

>complimenting a fun game
This part seems to be lost on modern devs. The story is not complimenting the game, it is the main focus, and everything else around it suffers.

A good story can make a good game even better. Deus Ex has a fantastic story, and it really adds to the setting and gives cool context for what you do in the game. I can still enjoy a game that doesn't have a lot of story either, that's totally cool too.

I think video games shine as a medium when the gameplay is married well into the audiovisual elements. Adding story to the mix is tricky, but also incredibly rewarding when done right.

Visual novels are all slop. Even some highly praised ones turned out to be pure garbage. You must be 18 to post here btw.

Adding lore notes or audio logs and scattering them around the game is always a good option. You dont need to see everything animated if you have good imagination. Its enough to see the characters, the setting, and you can fill in the blanks yourself by reading the lore.
