symmetrical sticks are the only non-retarded choice
t. owns 2 8bitdo's that I bought solely for guests and exclusively use dualshock 4's myself
I'm still mad that 8bitdo hasn't made a proper dualshock clone with TMR sticks tho

Dualshock and Dualsense controllers don't actually have separate buttons, that's one solid d-pad piece with a bigass pivot.

Trackpads shouldn't have replaced the second stick but it's very useful for UI based games

I’ll wait until the stress tests are conducted.
If the Steam controller is durable like the Deck, I’ll but this item too.
I already went through 4 PS5 controllers, the stick drift is just the bane of consoles.

The worst part of the original Steam Controller was the stick and it was brought down massively by just not having more face buttons instead, even a d-pad would have been better at that point.
Controllers were solved in the 2000s and the solution was to stop using cheap handheld ewaste unless you were going for full motion control VR controllers, because keyboard and mouse are just better. Sure actually well-built controllers like throttles, flightsticks and wheels are good, but handheld controllers have always been the cheapest shit originally designed to cheap enough for pack-ins, but now sold at a massively inflated price.

It's incredibly easy to fall into patent issues when making hardware. Want to do anything interesting with haptics? I hope you have a lawyer and a war tank ready against Immersion Technologies.

Literally any meaningful gaming hardware company has been sued by them. Valve, Sony. I think Nintendo is the only one that avoided that battle and just chose to license their stuff directly.

Patents are almost as bad as trademarks in terms of how poorly they translated from the 19th century to the 21st century. Splatoon is designed from the ground up for it. You can always switch into squid mode if you're being shot from behind to get away and turn around. Regular stick controls simply can't turn as fast as flick stick (which, while great, has its own issues) or trackpads unless you set the sensitivity so high that you can't hit anything less than 180° from your face.

Why complain about additional shoulder buttons when it has pads, under buttons, capacitive grips, and everything bindable with anything, including double tap or long press binds???
>>
>>737864795
>I just can't see any point to the trackpads
They allow you to comfortably play any PC game, which is important for handhelds but obviously not important for a controller. They're also much better for aiming and clicking than sticks and last much longer without issues. And having buttons that activate with a simple touch is very comfy.
>>
>>737864795
You probably tried to play games already made for controllers using pads to replace sticks and whines it sucks. Pads are good at doing everything, But it can't emulate doing a stick better than an actual stick.

Steam controller won't help if you lack 3 IQ points to browse layouts or make your own, OR only play native controller stuff anyway.

That said if you want far more binds, mouselike precision, ect, steam controller is it

Pretty good for their price? Sure.
Better than console first party controllers? Obviously.
However, the Steam Controller still has better value since it's 10 times better and only 5 times more expensive.

Gamesaar has definitely been paying employees to post about their controller here and this controller is definitely making them worry a little. It's only 20 more than their premium offering and is just straight up a better deal. Better battery, better latency, better customization (supported by steam input), more input options...

Only thing I use from shitbitdo is the clanker fight stick, you can't fuck up a fight stick (since you can upgrade/modify it) but you can fuck up a controller and I consider rest of the controllers to be of substandard quality that I'd rather buy a LogitechF310 over them 24/7 regardless of features due to price difference just being that much lower.

I've had a ps4 controller since they existed. I tried using the trackpad like how I use the steam decks trackpad. Never could get it to feel natural to me. It took me less than a minute to get the steam deck's working the way I use it still. I did spend time with the ps4's fiddling (on windows), but not really any fiddling with the deck's. Got any other stretches you can pull out of your ass?

>gimmick when you have a mouse and kb
And you don't if you're playing on the couch. Or if you want to play a game that benefits from analog movement.
>or decide to use aim assist aimbots in games
If you like your games playing themselves so much, you'd probably be served better by playstation or twitch. On PC, we typically want to play ourselves.
>faggot shit no one uses to actually game
I do. Better than sticks for camera control. Or for games with more actions than buttons on the controller.
>no one uses back buttons
Wrong again. Try using a dpad action while moving or jump while looking. You need a shitty unergonomic claw grip without back buttons.
>implying you need more than hall
TMR is more precise. No reason not to use it.
>shitty gimmick for browns
Browns literally can't comprehend anything more advanced than the 360 controller. Any extra features simply short circuit their tiny brains. Everything in the SSteam KKKontroller is for Aryan White Men only.

If you own a console and by extension any Xbox pad or DS4 or DualSense, there's very little reason to buy the pad on the left for PC, unless they break.

I have 360 pad, DS4, DualSense, on top of DS2, and all of them still work just fine with no drift.

Steam Controller offers me just way more and I plan on getting Steam Frame.
>>
>>737870315
the stick in the top left.
it is the superior position if you are playing shooters with a controller. walking forward requires no effort. you place the center of the end of your thumb on the stick and simply straighten your thumb to walk forward. with the stick forward it keeps your thumb straight and stable. the stable position makes slight left and right adjustments easy. Good for racing games and aiming with both sticks in a shooter.
>>
Never ever using gamepad without trackpads ever again, seethe.

Got this a few weeks ago for $20 and it's been real good. Only complaint is the back buttons can only be assigned to duplicate the face buttons. We'll see how the build quality holds up over time, but so far so good.

I got one of these just to play smash on the switch for like 25€.
Then I suddenly needed a gamepad for my PC and used this one and it was suprisingly good. Still holds up to this day after years of abuse. I bought a second one just in case and now they're at 35€.
>>
>>737871019
Is having both remapping options normal? Guess there is no reason not to have both. I really only had 3rd parties way back when that just acted as xbox controllers. Well one was ps3, but never used it on pc
>>
>>737864836
But can you use it with the ps5? No then what's the point, I can get plenty of controllers with Hall Effect or TMR sticks on PC but it's the ps5 Im worried about since it has no TMR option

>asymmetrical layout has the left stick higher up

im not even saying symmetrical is better or that it even matters but this is retarded
>playing shooters with a controller
lmao
>>
>>737870612
NTA, but with a handheld or controller the weight of the object isn't a problem, its how the weight falls when held by max 2 fingers per hand, while being kept in an unnatural position, possibly for hours.
like how i can carry a 20kg tool bag for a half hour hike to a radio tower, but carting a 2L milk bottle for more than 5 minutes through a shop suck ass, because the handle is made for pouring, not carrying.
>>
>>737871075
>But can you use it with the ps5
It's a game controller. Not a TV remote.
>>
>>737871187

>im not even saying symmetrical is better or that it even matters

I am saying asymmetrical is better.
driving with asymmetrical is better because of that relaxed position i outlined.

the right thumbstick's lower position allows you to turn left and right with the exact same motion.

the left thumbstick in the higher position lets you walk forward and back with the same motion.

optimizing the most common uses for those sticks to a simple push and pull motion.

can you play shooters well with a controller?
>>

>>
Retards really can’t wrap their heads around the simple concept of "quality = pricier" it’s crazy, guess that’s your brain on corn syrup
>>
>>737864661
Are the trackpads patented? Always wondered why there are so few sony styled controllers, well i guess the buttons are a nono but the trackpad has existed since the ds4 and no third party has given them a try
Would be funny to see them give em a try now that they can copy valve for a third of the price
>>
>>737872445
Because that's not how american capitalism works. You get quality when you are underpaying and the company is expanding, then they crank the price and fuck the quality once they reach critical mass. It's inverted
>>
>>737864661
The 8bitdo is cheap garbage though.

>>737872773
valve is pre-enshittification for now. they're just waiting for the fat guy to die

>>737864661
The only 8bitdo contoller I ever bought turned out to be a cheap piece of shit that would never charge properly without waggling the cable around and then the socket just broke and disappeared inside when I tried to plug it in one day. I replaced it with a logitech f310 that was £10 cheaper and has already lasted twice as long. The next time I'm in the market for something more exotic and wireless there's no fucking way I'd consider 8bitdo or spend less than 50.
