I have never seen a game split /v/ like this ever since Elden Ring. People either hate this game or love it. Of course Marathon doesn't have the same amount of defenders Elden Ring has, but by lurking pretty much 80% of Marathon and Elden Ring threads I get the feeling the super core ER fanbase, or at least the invaders, likes Marathon. Marathon is a good game, very solid. It probably is comparable to Elden in ways in that they both have really good art and level design that’s pulled down by the meta-difficulty of each resource sub genre. Elden Ring went on to make Neightreign, which is questionable, but I don’t see how far Marathon can take itself. Marathons problem is that Destiny exists. So Marathon needs all the elements from Destiny, but Bungie doesn’t want to step on their own toes. And if they do, the fans will get mad and hound both games into the grave. You can’t really win. It’s always better to only keep on online game at a company. Look at MIHOYO and how everyone complains endlessly between their own three games.

I actually really like this game but it's not divisive. The reception is bad. The gameplay feels great but the game has so many problems overall. It's annoying just gearing up and entering a game. It's grindy as fuck. So much content is locked out if you can't invest into sweating it. I get like two hours a night to play and I can't keep up at all.
