Why the fuck did Kojima do this? It ruined the entire fucking series. It's like he knew he was getting fired so he fucked up the entire story with this bullshit as a troll, literally wtf is even going on in this game?
>>
>>737911140
I'm hoping now that MGS3 Remake was a success Konami will just retcon that retards shit he did in V and we get a proper Metal Gear 1 and 2 remake
>>
oh no he retconned one minor detail whatever shall we do
>>
>>737911685
You realize this fucks up the entire story of Metal Gear 1 through Solid right?
>>
>>737911140
It's because he fell for the autistic trap of thinking every unexplained point in a story is a "plot hole" that needs to be explained.
>>
>>737911774
That's not true.
>>
>>737911868
>Big Boss builds outer heaven
>Uh ASCSHULLY it was this guy who we did face surgery on to look like Big Boss
>>
>>737912081
Yeah, it just turns out that people were wrong. Nothing is fucked.
>>
>>737911418

Many are saying this
>>
>>737912081
Big Boss built outer heaven while venom snake was doing his thing with diamond dogs.
>>
>>737911140
>It ruined the entire fucking series.
Not really. It's more of an indictment against V that you can remove it from the timeline and nothing would change. It's a phantom game that might as well not exist.
>>
>>737911140
>It ruined the entire fucking series
how exactly? Venom is basically fucking irrelevant in the larger narrative
4 and peace walker did more significant damage than V
>>
>>737912497
This. Big Boss being Venom in MG1 is about the safest fucking "retcon" you could possibly do. MGSV changes nothing and doesn't answer anything.
>>
>>737912081
It simply retcons why BB had two bases and military forces in full 3 years apart while surviving MG1. In the grand scheme of things, all it really does is loosely justify why Miller backs up Snake in MG2 against Big Boss despite being best buddies in PW, and gets to handwave why the first game's bosses and overall story were far more blase versus how personal things were for the real Big Boss in 2.
Honestly, if anything MGSV basically canonizes MG1 to be more important than it really was, because aside from Schneider and Madnar, there's so little to MG1 overall that you could practically wipe it from history or a remake could overlay it with MG2 and nothing much would actually need to be changed. But now Venom Snake justifies MG1's existence.
>>
>>737913010
Whoops, 4 years between 1 and 2, oh well.
>>
>>737911140
The biggest problem was replacing the voice actor for no reason. That alone almost destroys any kind of canon or consistent story telling. How does a mans voice change that much?
>>
>>737911140
What does it ruin, exactly? I don't love MGSV's story but if anything ruined the series it was MGS4.
>>737913010
>It simply retcons why BB had two bases and military forces in full 3 years apart while surviving MG1.
It doesn't even retcon that; we know Outer Heaven--the thing that gets blown up in 1995 in Africa--is what Big Boss is doing during TPP, because the timeline tells us as much. The fact he had Venom helping him might help explain how he was able to accrue so much influence and resources so quickly, since Diamond Dogs was presumably folded into Outer Heaven at some point between the end of TPP and MG1, but that's about it. The two bases are still Big Boss's doing.
>>
>>737913238
by not being the same man
>>
>>737913319
So why did Akio Otsuka (the voice behind BB and Solid in the Japanese version) not get replaced?
>>
>>737913319
If that was the case Big Boss / Ishmael should be Hayter, but he wasn't and it would've been too obvious. It was just Kojima's stardom boner and wanting the twist to not be too obvious.
>>
>>737912739
>>737913295
3 ruined the series. Going back and doing prequels all over the place instead of doing a direct sequel to 2 is what fucked up the series. it went from a serious game to nothing but meme shit
>>
>>737913547
It was too obvious for the Japanese audience, since Akio wasnt replaced
>>
>>737913616
I don't think MGS2 needed a sequel and I love MGS3 for what it is, but MGS3 was the beginning of the series falling into an unironic self-obsessed spiral.
>>
>>737913010
>It simply retcons why BB had two bases and military forces in full 3 years apart while surviving MG1
not really
Naked is busy rebuilding his reputation at Foxhound and working on the base in MG1 while Venom is working on his reputation in the field and recruting the soldiers for the Outer Heaven base.
Zanzibar Land was the result of an existing local revolution that involved a bunch of mercenaries, which was later hijacked by Big Boss and lead to the total control of the nation. Nobody from MGS V had any involvement in the revolution.
>>
I skipped MG1 and 2... Why should I care?
>>
>>737915092
They're good games. MG2 in particular has a lot of stellar level design.
>>
>>737915092
1 I can understand, but 2 should be a must.

it is because he was planning something bigger. we never got to see the true scope of what he wanted. we get glimpses of what was meant to be in death stranding, but that is a reworking of what was to be his magnum opus. had he not been ousted, we would have gotten something beyond anything we've ever seen in games or even film. it is truly astounding how heartbreaking it is to know that such art never got to see the light of day.
>>
>>737913616
MGS2 didn't need a sequel. MGS4 is more than proof of that. I'd rather just be Snake and Otacon fucking around killing Metal Gears.
>>
>>737911140
Kojima lost interest in MGS and its characters and decided to make a game revolving around the worst twist of all time instead.
>>
He spent $80 million on 1/3 of a game, and Konami wouldn't give him anymore money, so Act II and III were just hobbled together at the last minute.
