The only thing that's happening is we're witnessing the death of yet another company at the hand of hilariously incompetent jeets.

Microsoft had the most secure monopoly on the planet until they started hiring jeets, now they can't even make a semi-functional OS that doesn't randomly delete peoples files and their OS is considered a security threat globally by governments.

No, normalfags wouldn't even do that much. If linux wants widespread adoption, oems need to start loading it up as the default os.
I would argue linux getting widespread adoption with normalfags would also suck since corporations and governments would just flock to it and try to find ways to screw everything in order to get to the normalfags.

It's for this reason (and it's a perfectly valid reason), that i've specfically started building and selling linux/mint based pre-built gaming PC's.

Just shit cunts can fire up and play on with all the performance benefits. Get all the drivers sorted, put Steam on there, Epic, Ubisoft Connect, EA App, Discord, a decent browser all their usual shit. Just make it easy as fuck so all they need to do is login to their accounts and play.

Windows has marketshare because it's just what everything comes with and 99.9% of people aren't installing their own OS ever, they're not even going to fuck with anything once it's setup.

Jeets are a cancer. If you let some of them in, they will hire more until it hits terminal mass and the majority of employees are jeets. They will pass over anybody who isn't a jeet for someone who is, qualifications be damned. They do the same thing in politics, once you let a few in, they open the gates for as many as possible via H1Bs and preferential treatment in immigration applications.
I can't fault them, they favor their own people, as anyone should. The problem is that they lack any introspection as to why so many Indians are leaving India, and why maybe letting tons of Indians into a new country might make it more like India (a country everybody wants to get the fuck out of ASAP).

Check protonDB, generally speaking games that require engine hacks and community patches to run on Win10/11 don't require them on Linux, for games that require .exe patching you can install and manage them via lutris.
>>
>>737937813
Sounds good but why mint? Wouldn't SteamOS make more sense or does that come with licensing headaches?
I'm asking because Mint is fine but it has a bit of that "Walmart Windows" or "We got Windows at Home" kind of vibe. Its mostly just a brand thing, which is important to customers still. (look at Apple, a lot of their success is mostly just the "vibe" their products have). SteamOS on the hand seems "cooler".
Technical people like us wont care about this a lot but I think the regular customer would

>>

you don't get it, 90% of what matters here is support from a big entity like valve so if shit hits the fan they're not blaming buttmongler25 but that entity, that's why if you want to buy a laptop or a prebuilt with linux it always defaults to ubuntu despite it being a pile of hot garbage
the console experience isn't hard coded in, the OEMs would just have to set it to default to desktop mode
then it's basically indistinguishable from most retard friendly distros, you just install your shit from flatpak and maybe enable a way to install shit off AUR for more advanced users
that satisfies the normalfag computer experience

Not counting inertia, wangblows has 2 things going for it: gayms and 40 years old excel spreadsheets, along with the office drones that depend on those spreadsheets (sort of) working.
Yurupeen goverment is moving away from microsoft due to sovereignty concerns (good for them), the frogs even made their own fork on OnlyOffice (not so good for them, couldn't they at least pick something not written in JS?). Other states might follow if they're successful, which they likely will be since the government makes their own goals. Companies which for/with the yurupeen government will make the switch too and soon enough MS Office will be deprecated and all their efforts making MS Office incompatible with everything else will go down the drain, leaving them with only the gaymers.
Except now linux gets better frame rates than windows...

>It's already easier to install than windows
Motherfucker ArchInstall failed to install five separate times only to find out that the live iso they had on the Arch site was actually broken for several days by that point and you had to manually update the iso via the terminal which then also didn't install properly.
EndeavourOS' installer didn't even think I had an SSD in my machine when it was the only thing connected to the computer at the time.
Several years back when I tried Ubuntu it formatted my hard drive and then refused to actually install to it after formatting it, but then after like six tries it worked.

The only Linux installers that seem to really work out of the box are stuff like Bazzite, SteamOS, and Mint. Don't even get me started on how easy it is to break the desktop just by changing options on half the distros because they don't filter out incompatible options you can install like mouse pointers, fonts, window styles, etc. so you can just brick your user log in which was fun to have happen on Endeavour. Then there's also the problem that the installers are not clear what certain options mean because they expect you to already know what you mean.

Linux needs to get its head out of its enthusiast asshole and make GUIs for everything, not have basic shit like Dolphin break if you look at it wrong, and actually fix issues without having to touch the terminal unless absolutely necessary. The terminal should solely be for catastrophic issues, not general troubleshooting.

Fair on the arch iso being broken. That's fucked. But you have to understand, Linux is from a time when even windows required some basic due diligence or you could break it. None of which was my fault. Endeavour's live iso somehow couldn't even notice a known working SSD that I was just using a few hours ago (and later installed Endeavour to later the exact same way) and Ubuntu was a shitshow which didn't even work despite saying it worked.
>can't look up what something is on his phone if he's confused
I did, that's how I figured out the live iso was broken in the first place.
>Linux is from a time when even windows required some basic due diligence or you could break it. The modern "oopsie doopsie something went wrong :( " is not how computers used to work.
Cool, we're not living in a period of time where this is relevant anymore. I grew up on 3.0, 95, and 98, that doesn't mean when I go to W10 or W11 I am thinking "Oh, because 3.0 was such an unfriendly mess I can't wait for W10 to require me to start a summoning circle so it boots.". It's retarded to think the average person should be subject to this. Devs should be required to avoid this as much as possible.

Yes, it's a hobbyist OS but come the fuck on, why defend this at all when people are constantly try to push this as a solid alternative to Windows or Mac when it objectively is not. If you have to jump through hoops for a basic browsing experience or for normal stuff to work that's the sign of bad UEX and design.

Because it's a hobbyist os made by hobbyists for hobbyists built and maintained for free.
SteamOS and Fedora are really the only two that should have any expectations of quality. The fact most distros work as well as they do is a miracle. Let alone that anyone does all this work for maybe donations at best.
Just because microslop and apple have locked down their OSes to the point you CAN'T fuck anything up doesn't mean that you can just exist in ignorance when you leave their ecosystems. They exist precisely to absorb the audience that can't or won't learn how to maintain their own systems.

I tried Ubuntu years ago and messed around with it for a bit to dip my toes into Linux. Same with Mint. Mint is the only one that worked out of the box. Arch was just me trying to step away from W11 and wanting what Arch specifically granted me as an end-user. My complaints about Linux don't stem from the Arch experience, it's a mix of everything I have mentioned so Ubuntu, Mint, Arch, Endeavour, and Bazzite.

I kept a drive with w10 on it for if I run into anything I can't do on Linux. Haven't had to use it so far but I know there are still a lot of things that linux doesn't have a solution for. Emulation and modding seem to be the biggest problems, gaming wise.

>I'm asking because Mint is fine but it has a bit of that "Walmart Windows"
This is precisely why, SteamOS is straight up just a gaming OS whereas Mint is a solid general OS and very normie friendly.

SteamOS is absolutely fine on the Steam Deck, or a dedicated gaming machine/media box for the lounge or whatever, but beyond that not so much, but Mint is simply a good entry point for people to replace windows with linux. It's just familiar enough, does enough of what they want to do etc

>a lot of their success is mostly just the "vibe" their products have
Interestingly i've found linux has a "vibe" with the young blokes simply because of it's massive performance gains which they see as a competitive edge in online shit but there's simply no easy way for them to go down that route without installing a distro themselves which is a bit daunting when you've grown up with smart phones instead of dos prompts. Literally no one is selling machines with anything but windows so they can watch all the youtube vids they want, but they're unlikely to make the jump solo. But if you sell them a pre-built with mint, have a store front setup with linux gaming machines that they can play around on, can see that no nekbeard or programmer socks are required, you can help them get their foot in the door.

I've managed to sell around 15% of my pre-builts in the last financial year with mint instead windows, now that's not massive or anything, but that's something I could have never done 5~ years ago. So cheers to SteamOS and Valve for showing linux some love and jeets for making an OS so unfathomably dogshit it's killing windows.

Used Bazzite for the 8 months. Went back to W11 yesterday. Bazzite is not bad, it actually 'just werks' until they deploy an update and something stops working. I was surprised how much stuff did work, like my steering wheel for racing sims, but again, last update broke that. Getting support is a pain, cause you have to join a discord and there's so many issues, that barely any get addressed. On the upside, you can rollback an update easily, but for me this broke Bluetooth in turn. Was considering CachyOS, but a friend is using that and he also had things break. I honestly hate tinkering with the OS - it's such a time-waster. I will say though - most gaming-oriented distros are pretty fire-and-forget when it comes to installing things. It's just that the little shit that gets annoying with time.

If you're lucky there is a driver and you can install it. No guarantee it will work like on Windows, probably no control panel for settings.
Thiswill never be solved, because the manufacturers don't care for Linux and it's always community drivers you have to rely on.

I really want Linux to succeed, but unless a big company like Valve makes and OS with good support and get hardware manufacturers on board - it's always going to be 'emulating' Windows on a hobby OS.

Maybe true, but to different extents. With Windows I just need to sit down and tinker with it once after installing, and I can use my PC with very few issues for the next X years. Sure, there may be a small issue here or there that can be quickly resolved (e.g. via a driver update) but it's virtually nothing.
With Loonix, you have to tinker constantly whenever something doesn't just work, and that'll happen far more often than on Windows. And yes, I'm speaking from experience.

Nah you have to tinker with Windows fucking constantly as it's notorious for re-enabling things and even things that are disabled are notorious for still running and there's a lot you simply cannot disable. It's a constant process and they've started sneaking things in with security updates now as well.

It's fucking surreal that people are even having this discussion, that we're at a point where people think having to actively fight their OS is somehow acceptable.

How utterly fucking disingenuous.

Tinkering on windows is to REMOVE unwanted features. Just about everything else works easily out of the box. Once you disable updates it's also one and done, you'll likely never have to touch it again outside of edge cases. If you get bored or annoyed during the process you can just take a break and play vidya or jerk off or whatever part way through as your computer is still functional.

Meanwhile tinkering on Linux often means scrambling to make basic shit work. Something as simple as speakers or wifi because it broke due to.... reasons. Depending on the distro it can also be an ongoing process from new issues, which I never see happen on windows though I'm sure it does in rare occasions.

Yeah and Microslop Hindus 10 installer once forced itself onto a Windows 7 installation on another hard drive instead of the empty one I told it to install on. What's worse these were WD Green and I had to fucking move someone's files from one to the other so I could reinstall 7 for them and it was all so fucking slow it was absolute agony for which I will never forgive Microslop or Western Digital for.
Only ever gon fuck with Toshiba hard drives from now on, niggers.
