My emergency light lasts me into the desert areas, and then I live off the rose lights and die in the 5th layer because I can't see where the fuck I'm going. I've never found anything reliable. SS13 and Barotrauma may have detailed health mechanics, but they don't have the visceral effects that this game has, nor do they inspire such reactions in the players who have bad things happen to them. The visuals and sounds and your poor little critter's reactions completely change the tone to one of horror and distinct pain and suffering. And perhaps worst of all it can be all the player's fault. If the effects and reactions were to be hypothetically removed from the game, it would change the experience completely. Sometimes I'll die horribly and want to do another run, but then I'll hesitate because I don't want to have to inevitably go through all of that again. But after a break of a few hours or a day it'll draw me back in and I'll go back in for another terrible doomed descent even though I know it will end in tragedy.

This game has disturbed me in a way no other game ever has. On my first run I hit a spike trap that severed my jaw and left my character wimpering and begging on the ground, vomiting blood and soon starting to self harm while its heartrate slowly got more and more chaotic as it descended into a panicked failure. Never before had I wished my video game character would die out of mercy. The experience genuinely messed me up for a few days. Whoever made this game must be seriously disturbed, and I genuinely hope he finds the help he needs for his grossly damaged mind.Solid 8.5/10
