In OC, for some reason they decided to make it so that only 1 thing can spawn at a time. This causes everyone to need to play like a bot, and if you are even 5 seconds late, the FATE will die before you get there. I started OC late because housing demolition was turned off when it was introduced, and when I started OC, everyone already had the riding map except me, and I literally could not get to a FATE *at all* before the FATE died. So I had to AFK and just do CEs until I had enough currency to buy the riding map so that I could actually get to FATEs before they died.
All I'm saying is that if it were me and not the story WoL when Yotsuyu reunited with her parents who immediately decided to re-traffick her, I would have just turned around and pretended not to hear anything.

There is some amount of positioning like the healer running into an AoE range to heal the tank and then running out before the AoE goes off, but generally it's clicking through menus. The pace of it does pick up but because leveling 1-99 is so fast it is literally never worth it to go get gear that would give you the stats to make combat more interesting since you will outgrow it by the time you get it. So Leveling 1-99 which is "cap" is about the dullest game you can play. After 99 there's a lot more leveling to do including grinding points for the right to wear higher item level gear so there is more growth beyond that point but getting there will put a lot of people off.

If you do decide to try it I would argue go for a weird class you wouldn't get in most other MMOs, and definitely not XIV. Try out Blue Mage, it's really unique in XI and can fill any role so long as you use the proper spells and gear. Beastmaster might be interesting to compare to XIV BST when it comes out. Puppetmaster is another weird as fuck class that almost works.

Quests are actually good, but not really how you level. Quests give little to no exp on completion so you level by grinding mobs until you are strong enough to take on a quest, which are generally much more rare but of a generally higher quality. There is no big yellow ! to say talk to this person or stand in this spot. You are expected to talk to strange NPCs, actually read, and do some exploring and develop knowledge of the world to figure out what to do next.
