I used to be a proponent of the >We see Ichigo pop bankai and completely and utterly demolish, and right before Ichigo deals the final blow, it switches to Tensa Zangetsu shattering in Ichigo's grasp, revealing that it was all just a vision Yhwach had which made him break it before Ichigo could actually do anything in realityapproachBut over time (it's been years) I've grown so embittered with the entire way Ichigo was handled then that even going that route doesn't feel sufficient to me anymore. For the second half of TYBW, Ichigo is a complete mark, and the anime didn't change that at all. Arguably, it made it worse by making him job to Uryu as well (even if it was because he didn't want to actually hurt Uryu). The guy just looks like a complete joke. Keeping the Askin ruggening in there didn't help.

Reminder that this attack was ALWAYS treated with respect. Both by the Captains and the Espada themselves. Nobody ever just decided to tank a Cero. It was always an "oh shit I've got to dodge this" type attack. Other than maybe Kenpachi.
