What's the best way to get into the yakuza/like a dragon/whatever it's called series?
>>737960324Youtube
>>737960324The best way is starting with the first one. They did a remake of that incase PS2 games are too old for you, but the story is fucked up there and you'll still eventually get in a situation where you've run out of remakes and now playing the next game means going backwards.
yakuza 0 into 1 and 2 kiwamii also think its fine to start with yakuza 7 (like a dragon). the jrpg system imo is waaaay better than the button mashing they did up to that point (stupid gameplay). youll learn the story pretty well just playing 7+8. the humor goes way overboard in these compared to the older yakuza but imo its some of the most hilarious games ever. I also really afore the party being middle aged on average, the only rpg ever that has done this.
start with 0, then play 1 kiwami, 2 kiwami, 3/4/5 remastered, 6, judgment and lost judgment7 and 8 only if you like turn based slop
>>737960324I played it in a schizophrenic order. 0 > kiwami > half of kiwami 2 (got bored) > waited 5 years > like a dragon > infinite wealth > 4 > 5 > 6>>737960604yeah the gameplay's shit when they start having you fight bosses. it's fine when it's just beating up 10 shmucks that don't really fight back but you put a boss with armor, blocking, grabs etc and it's just so bad.
By not playing them directlyhttps://youtu.be/2uDYWbkoXYg
>>737960646this but unironicallyand the turna based really are awful combat wise, only play them if you really like the franchise
Why did they ruin Akiyama in 5? Constant fucking marvel quips. Kind of impressive how he went from my second favorite character in 4 to a character I hate in the span of one game.
>>737960921Been staying away from this game cause I don't like how the main guy looks. am I being retarded or are they genuinely good? I was told they're similar to 0 (which I love) in terms of plot
>>7379603240 is by far the best one, you don't really need to play any of the others.
>>737960972they were retranslated, probably by the same tranny that added "incels" to lost judgment subtitlesI don't remember 5 but playing remastered 3 I often could hear characters say something different than what subs say
>>737960324Release order
i want a bully yakuza cloneplaying as 15 year old kiryu in high school
>>737961051The game is excellent, but yeah, you will never be look past those skinny jeans.
>>737960324first play gta and then become gay
>>737961051yes 0 and judgments are the only games in this series with good story
>>737960324Play yakuza 0 then don't touch anything else because it's all bad
>>737960324Start with Zero. If you like it alot, then you can play the whole series. If you just like it, but you cant stomach all these games then here's a short list of Yakuza games that matter>Yakuza 0>Yakuza 1 ps2 (with english dub)>Yakuza 2 ps2>Judgement>Like a Panther 1 (that psp game)>Like a DragonThats it. You dont need to play more than these
don't listen to nostalgiafags that want you to play ps2 versions, they are clunky shit and kiryu looks like young john travolta
>>737961360what do you mean "yakuza games that matter"? if you skip 3/4/5/6 you're missing out on over half the franchise. Like a dragon is a reset for newcomers but even it has a bunch of "remember these guys?" moments. Like, if you only played like a dragon, that fight against majima and saejima, they way they introduce the characters with no explanation tells you you're missing out on who these people are
>>737961441>Play the same copy-pasted and bloated kiwami shit. PS2 Yakuza games might be janky, but the look soulful. Kiryu looks more like keanu reeves than Travolta. You are the one who is being a faggot>>737961570I meant that you get to experience the core of Yakuza series. I mentioned Like Dragon, only in case if OP is curious about Ichiban, or how a Yakuza game plays with a Turn Based system. He can skip that as well if he doesnt care enough. For me, Yakuza 2's ending is good enough to draw a line there and never bother with the sequels which slowly turn the franchise from a dramatic action story about a yakuza legend, into a korean police drama.
>>737960324Release order starting with the Restored patches on the PS2, or if you understand Japanese using the superior 1&2 HD on PS3 or Wii U. Play 3-5 on the PS3 instead of the remasters if possible as the 60 FPS broke a lot of stuff in each game and they retranslated the games adding random stuff that didn't exist in 5 or just censoring stuff like in 3. Judgment is better than Judgment Remastered if you have access to it due to the lighting changes and 60 FPS potentially causing issues. Ishin is objectively better than Ishin Kiwami (Like a Dragon: Ishin) and has a translation patch.Modern order starting with 0 (Not DC) and going Kiwami 1, K2, Remastered Collection, 6, Judgment (Not remastered), 7 (Yakuza: Like a Dragon), Lost Judgment, 7G (Like a Dragon: The Man Who Erased his Name), 8 (Infinite Wealth), 8G (Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii), then Kiwami 3 because K3 has a lot story issues that do not work at all with 4 but will likely be necessary for 9 going forward.Release order is harder to get into but is how you were expected to play through the games and they still reference stuff from the originals constantly. You see character progression as intended, writing and mechanical improvements as intended, and how they experimented with various gameplay changes.Modern order is easier to get into as 0 is a strong game to start with but it gives you the wrong impression on how important a lot of characters are to the series (Kazama, Shimano, and Nishiki), puts you in 11 games of iterating on writing quality so when you go to K1 which has 1's writing it's a whiplash on substory and story quality, and gameplay mechanics as styles have only recently started to become a mainstay. Prior to that each character only had one fighting style.
The actual order you want to do is 0>Kiwami 1>OG2>OG3>the rest in order
>>737961360>Yakuza 0Sucks>Like a Panther 1 (that psp game)You'd likely play a fan translation to know what the fuck is going on, and the mainline games pretend it does exist. The actual game won't necessarily appeal to fans of Yakuza combat because it feels like Def Jam awkwardly grafted into the Yakuza series.>Like a DragonSucks, and it's a turn based RPG that isn't even appealing if you want a turn based RPG. It sure isn't appealing if you expected it to play like every other Yakuza game.
>>737960465Unironically>>7379603240,7 if you don't have much time for gaming, else1,2 and/or k1, 2. 3 is OK, then skip 4-6 and play the spinoff and gaiden, skip majima and iw.
>>737960604Yakuza with gameplay would be 10/10. Yakuza always has strong osts.
>>737961360Isn't there like a panther 2?
>>737963331They're called Black Panther: Like a Dragon New Chapter and Black Panther 2: Like a Dragon Ashura Chapter. Yes. Second game is way better though it has some minor annoyances in combat like being parried more and the arena people grabbing you.
>>737962982>Yakuza 0It doesnt suck. Its probably the most enjoyable Yakuza game>Like a panther 1The fan made translation was good enough for me, and I could tell what was going on. Like a pather games have the best gameplay in the yakuza series, because they play like Def jam/ light Tekken instead of a mindless 3rd person beat em up. Its the main reason I mentioned the 1st one in my list>Like a DragonI mentioned this in case OP gets curious about modern Yakuza games and TB>>737963331As the other anon mentioned, there is a sequel, but I havent mentioned it because I wanted to keep the list short. Its good if you like the 1st one game
>>737963536Shame they won't revive the series.>gay fag in vidrelEveryone knew where the west is headed>end of vidHuh? Is he breaking his throat? That's like a death sentence. The Katy Perry crotch attack is questionable.
Literally just watch that fat retard Froov speed run each game on YouTube, he's such a sperg that he explains every that happens even though he skips all the cutscenes.
>>737963765>a mindless 3rd person beat em upI can see a thread up now for Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2. I don't want to even try Space Marine 2 because it doesn't look like my kind of game, and I didn't like Space Marine 1. I don't post in that thread telling everyone the game stinks like a soiled diaper and Donkey Kong Country 2 is better. If you hate Yakuza gameplay so much you aren't even interested in learning how to play it, the smart response is to not talk about Yakuza games or really acknowledge their existence.
>>737964326Why the fuck does this read like an AI hallucination? In any case, the basic Yakuza gameplay is not bad but its weak because its shallow, and because its repetitive. I never once heard a Yakuza fan saying "I play Yakuza games for their gameplay". Everyone like everything else Yakuza games offer other than the gameplay, and mostly tolerate the gameplay after the cool factor dies down. This is the reason why they decided to experiment with Like a dragon and with that Majima Pirate game. Yes, I will talk about Yakuza's gameplay in a Yakuza thread
What are the differences between the originals 1 & 2 and Kiwami 1 & 2?
>>737960324Yakuza 0. Sadly the Remaster has some fucking idiotic changes to the story, but the overall package is still good.
>>737960324emulate yakuza 1 on ps2, use the restored patch to have fixed names and the jap dub
Start with 0If you enjoy that you can play othersOtherwise GTFO
>>737964849K1>Nishiki isn't a non-existent character in the story despite being the main antagonist and actually has character development.>Kiryu uses his 0 styles instead of just DoD and DoD suffers as a result.>Majima Everywhere has been added to the game and you can't opt out unless you outright ignore finding him the first time but then DoD suffers.>Majima now appears at the funeral.>Majima now has a separate story segment because of ME to justify why he can appear for ME after the story segment.>DoD requires you to grind ME just to make it usable in the most basic sense since it doesn't even have basic combo extensions or a Heat bar until you do.>Kiwami Heat system means bosses now regenerate health after hitting half HP and you need to either use a Kiwami Heat or normal Heat Action to counter it.>Bosses and enemies use movesets from 3, 5, Ishin, and 0 instead of 1 which also means Majima is massively easier due to using his nerfed Mad Dog from 4 onward and the same goes for Komaki not shuffling as much.>Komaki is now tied to ME because of 0 so if you've fought Majima enough before chapters 6 and 11 you can potentially lock yourself out of his upgrades until you reach those chapters to upgrade his rank and have him wandering again.>Enemies knock you down way more frequently than in any other game because instead of the usual thing where finishers knock you down enemies can knock you down on random strings in their combo.>A handful of new substories either relating to 0 or just for the sake of it.>Lots of 0 references from Majima, Kiryu, and in general.>Mesuking has been added.>Slot machines have been removed.>Love in Heart has been removed.>Staple minigames from games after 1 have been added like bowling, mahjong, shogi, etc.>Hostess amount has been lowered from 10 to either 4 or 5 and it's different girls.>Haruka's trust doesn't permanently go down by running too far away or going into adult stores.>No missables.>No fart bomb hoodie.
>>737961051it's really great. I'd stay away from the sequel though.
>>737964849>>737965854K1 cont.>Amon is not the canon Amon but the strength autism Amon from 0 and doesn't explain why he's trying to kill Kiryu like the original did.>Amon also has a completely different (and much worse) moveset than 1.>Kamurocho is not the same as it was in 1 as it's the one from 5 since the Gelataria has been replaced with the Gindaco Highball and they added a few restaurants from later games if I remember right.>Music is now this electronic techno thing and it sounds worse than the original.K2>Kaoru has a different (In my opinion worse) VA.>Kawara and Takashima are now portrayed by real life people.>Kawara being ZyuohHuman is fine and doesn't change anything at all, but Takashima being an old man directly causes issues with his actual character and motives.>Kamurocho is not the one from 2, it's from 6, so you have no North Pink Street and 6's Little Asia now exists there instead of being 4's Little Asia.>Sotenbori has been reworked in the Dragon Engine and now has nooks and crannies that didn't exist in 2.>Shinseicho, a small city area you visit, has been completely removed. All substories, training, and main story content that existed there has been moved to Sotenbori. They added NPCs that complain they can't go there anymore.>Instead of doing the phone puzzle in the tower in Shinseicho you now chase Santa around Sotenbori and do a shogi safe puzzle instead.>The Marietta major minigame was removed. It has been replaced by Four Shine which is a completely different minigame.>The Club Adam substory/minigame was removed.>Clan Creator has been taken from 6 and turned into a tower defense major minigame called Majima Construction.>YF6, a minigame only found in 2, has been replaced for Virtua Fighter 2 which has been in several games prior.>Kaoru's sideboob during the main story has been somewhat censored by slightly blurring it more than the original.>Still no Geletaria>Love in Heart was removed.
>>737964849>>737966521K2 cont.>Some of the licensed music has been replaced with much less fitting licensed hard rock music.>They added a sound effect that makes a main story scene worse and it ruins the whole framing of the scene.>The final gauntlet has been ruined due to 6's inventory system since you're supposed to bleed through your healing items and equipment reaching the final boss while scavenging stuff during it and then ultimately fighting the boss with not much left. Because of 6's inventory you carry the kitchen sink with you and there's a guy selling you healing items right before the final boss.>None of the movesets are from 2, they're all either from 3, 5, Ishin, 0, or brand new.>Man in Black is significantly worse than he was in 2 as in 2 all he did was block constantly while in K2 his knife boots constantly drop you to the ground.>They removed several unique substory locations like some specific apartments and the pier to use generic business buildings from previous games for many substories.>This also means the Amon fight now takes place in a completely different location instead of the pier.>Amon himself continues to follow 0's strength autism pipeline mixed in with the original 2 story which is quite confusing and again doesn't make sense.>Amon has a completely different moveset to the original. Not better or worse but less unique compared to the original fight.>The coliseum is now done way better, but it's handled differently.>Kiryu's DoD is the one from 6 instead of the one from 2 which means he has moves he never had in 2.>There's more civilian Heat Actions than 2 had.>Substories that were multiple substories long to tell one story were condensed into one single substory and then they added brand new substories, some for the civvy Heat Actions, some just for fun. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Kiwamis are not replacements for the originals and just because you played K1 does not mean you played 1.
>>737967241Oh, and hostesses were removed from K2. You can still technically do something similar in Four Shine but it's half the amount of girls and not the same minigame.
Suggested play order:0 -> Judgment -> Lost Judgment -> forget Yakuza existed
