Im playing Star Ocean 2 and close to the end. It's not great I don't understand why this game is praised at all. It's extremely 7/10 and people talk it up like its the best of the series. Maybe a 7/10 is the best this series can offer?

It's in the same basket with Tales of Symphonia, Xenoblade 2 and SMT4. It's a lot of players first game and it gets ingrained in their memories from a young age. They become devout, zealot followers of this "cult classic" and call all other games in the series shit. I strongly believe almost all other star ocean games except 1 and 5 are better than the second one.

I sort of enjoyed it, but a lot of the things I did enjoy were things entirely unrelated to the combat. The battles kinda sucked, at least in the versions I played which were the PS1 and PSP versions, and the thing that made it go from tolerable to annoying was spell pause.
