I'm not sure. I have vague memories of being at a friend's house and playing a Game Boy emulator running on DOS with Pokemon Red. I still haven't discovered which emulator it was. Later on I acquired some CD with a launcher and Mega Drive ROMs. I also remember renting Megaman 8 thinking I could get it to run on PC before I learned of emulation, only to get chewed out by my parents. Earthbound. I learned about emulation due to getting PBGGameplay's original Mario 64 Chaos Edition series recommended to me as a kid. I had wanted to play Earthbound on the Wii U eShop for months, but my dad didn't trust giving Nintendo his credit card information, so I had to learn the ways of the seven seas.I still remember downloading everything from doperoms.com and reading their hilariously outdated info on how you needed an "extremely strong PC" to emulate N64 games or above. LOL
I hate questions like this because they remind me how bad my autobiographical memory is. This is the kind of thing that I should definitely remember, because I was fascinated by emulation for quite a while and built a ROM collection and everything. But I don't even know which console it was.

My PC was shitty and could only handle emulating 2D PS1 games at the max and even then, I'd get frame drops in the Phantasia areas with water and lava. Getting through that lava dungeon was miserable.
>>737977513I only emulated the first 3 sonic games and 3D Blast. I'm a turbo normal.
>>737977856Respectable
I remember the first time I learned about emulators was in computer graphics class in 2005 right after school started. I stumbled across a folder on my assigned computer that had Nesticle with some games. Thought it was cool and copied the folder to my brand new 64MB flash drive I bought with my birthday money that summer. I played Mario shittily with my keyboard and researched emulation at home after school that day. I haven't done a whole lot of it, though, I've encountered a lot of bugs over the years that made it frustrating, but ShadPS4 is doing pretty well with Bloodborne the past couple weeks. There was also a time a few years ago when I spent a weekend emulating LoZ: The Minish Cap and it worked flawlessly the entire time with an Xbox controller.I'm starting to trust it a little more as time goes on.

>>737969901Fan translation of Pokemon Gold in the summer of 2000, when I was ten and my older cousin had found an emulator and rom, before the game even came out in America. It only had the first five letters of Pokemon for the five hiragana it could fit, so all the names were wrong, and my rival said ‘shit!’ A few times, but it was incredible, playing this game so early. It got me into emulation in general, though I still bought games because the physical presence of a controller always beat keyboard and mouse. Now though I just get everdrives and shit for consoles and homebrews roms of what I want on what I have.

>>737969901I liked Golden Sun and I wanted to play TLA but it wasn't out in English yet. I didn't know Japanese (still don't) and I didn't get very far, and my shitty computer only ran it at like 10fps because my mom wouldn't let me put games on the new computer because she thought that games made the old computer slow. She also still to this day loads her computers with all kinds of "anti-virus" malware like Kaspersky that slows her computer down and asks her 50 times if she's sure she wants to do something every time she tries to do something, and spyware is constantly popping up telling her to update her spyware and then forcibly shutting her computer down to update the spyware for her.
