Well it's simple. People who enjoy something tend to like "more of that" to exist. With Chrono Trigger, if you're going to do something with it, it needs to be big and expansive. Like make the world bigger and more alive, that was what Chrono Trigger's weakness was. It had these kingdoms but in reality each world map, whatever time period you were in, had like 3 sections to it and they were small. It's why the "Porre Kingdom built an army bullshit" from Cross didn't make sense to anyone who played the game, Porre is like 3 buildings in Trigger.That's the only way they could go for it, if they do a simple graphics update while delivering a similar game then why bother the game had really good art direction already.
