I'm playing this as my first RTS and I decided to try it out on Hard but I'm genuinely just getting raped by Chapter 5, what's the general consesus of Normal vs Hard mode? Is Normal just baby mode or will it still be a fulfilling experience?
Are you losing at the RTS or tactical levels?
>>737994893Learn the hotkeys
>>737994945I dunno, it's the level where you have a bunch of villages you need to defend and also enemy bases scattered all around, it seems like eventually just too many enemies spawn for me to handle it while trying to defend each village and the bases are also way too strong to take out.
>>737994893I recently played the RoC campaigns on hard and some of them were pretty challenging even though I've played various RTS games all my life so I'd say you just play on normal if its your fist one.My advice is don't even touch frozen throne campaign it's abysmal dog shitThe human Chapter 5 is the first mission that's actually somewhat difficult, I think you want to sneak a peasant to take the north gold mine early on but don't bother building defenses there because you can't defend it, just mine what you can before it gets razed.Just turtle up, try to build houses to create chokepoints for the enemy melee units. Use sorceresses, they're really good even though I don't think they can learn polymorph in this mission, use them to cast slow on enemy abominations and heroes. It is possible to destroy and loot the grain caravan even on hard and still win just fine. Some later missions in other campaigns will be much harder than this.
>what's the general consesus of Normal vs Hard mode?RTS skill ranges are significantly larger than any other genre of game. The only people who should play hard are those who have already beaten the game on normal or are top 5% competitive RTS sweatlords who are taking a break.
>>737995396Almost forgot, it's important to turn OFF your priests auto heal when your units get disease from the meat wagons as continuous auto heal will rapidly burn through their mana for little gain.
>>737994893Just do normalThe difference is minimal, just enemy gets more upgrades, and more unitsIts not like sc2 where higher difficulties change the mission slightly, by adding enemies where there werent or changing the enemy compAs for the human campaign, its all about Arthas, for roc human 5 what you should do is hide arthas in a corner to the left, outside of your base, when the enemy wave comes you bring arthas from behind and kill the meat wagonsIve done the full roc campaign without producing any units in normal, and human was by far the easiest
>>737995198Oh yeah the siege of andorhal is pretty hard core. I remember losing to that a few times as a kid. You gotta stop playing the game like it's realistic and get meta. Pop towers down and build farms around them and you'll find it way easier to defend. Focus your forces on capturing additional goldmines in between waves, and basically just build a bunch of barracks and keep the troops flowing. You're not gonna survive the last wave you just have to last out the timer.
>>737994893play it on nomral and then try hard. To beat the game you are supposed to have the knowledge of ho w the mission works. In normal ther are only a handful of missions that can present a challenge like the cenarius one
>>737994893If its your first RTS you are gonna be slow between scanning for upgrades, getting more workers, raising an army, and micromanaging your army in combat.I hated micro the most. In actual multiplayer I was good with macro, scouting, expanding, countering what they are doing. But when it came to fast clicking pulling away targetted units or low HP units off the front to mess with the enemy, I was bad. This game allows you to do a lot of that especially since you have hero units. The campaign isnt even real since its nothing like fighting a real person so who cares? Play normal.
Do people still play custom maps? Even if its just the same shit (legion, zombies, etc.) Feeling like hitting up the campaign again and playing some maps
>>737994893I've played the campaign so many times that hard is too easy for me now. Normal is baby mode. Protip: on mission 5 send arthas on his own to kill the undead caravan with divine shield. Get the boots of speed from the murlocs first.
>>737995396>My advice is don't even touch frozen throne campaign it's abysmal dog shitLol what
always play on Hard. if it hurts, suck it up and git gud. there is no other reason to play videogames
>>737994893>Mission 5 is hardlol wait until you get to TFT
Old games have actual difficult, you are not supposed to play above normal on your first playthrough for the most part, this isn't just fake gamer cred difficult setings.
>>737995198Oh I know which mission you're doing, it's the Defense of Strahnbad. The thing you gotta do is keep a small force at your base, maybe 3 footmen, a few riflemen and a priest or 2, then take the rest of your force up north and follow the road to get to the undead caravan. Don't bother actually destroying the undead bases that send attack waves at you. They're both heavily defended and tend to back each other up when you attack. Instead, just build up layers of towers to your base and keep your homebase defense group in a separate control group from the one Arthas is leading. Once you destroy the caravan, head back to either your main base or the secondary base at the goldmine in the north, and hunker down for the rest of the mission. Bingo bango, mission is complete and Uther comes in with the Knights to your rescue.
>>737995198Just sit in the base and build riflemen and priests. Use priests to dispel the Necro skeletons. Target fire the lich when they send them, and then the meat wagons.
The campaign on hard requires either extensive knowledge of the game and the mission itself, together with at least decent micro.Playing the game for the first time, you're not gonna have those, just switch the difficulty down whenever you get stuck.
>>737996746That's a good point: don't underestimate older games.Same goes for sequels because the developers often made them much harder since they expected the players to have already mastered the first entry.
>>737994893You have to be able to manage setting up an expansion, build towers and maybe 2 small groups of units. Get some Mortar teams and Footmen and Maybe Priests and Riflemen as a separate group.
>>737994893A good tip I don't see people mentioning very often is that since you stay on low supply as long as your population doesn't exceed 41 it's a good idea to keep a small army for the majority of the mission. That way you have enough resources to build a large base and tech up, and then you can make your final army very fast for the final push.
>>737997318It doesn't require a knowledge of the game but knowledge of the genre. I played it for the first time a few months ago, it wasn't that difficult but I played SC2 a lot. If this is your first RTS, hard is probably too punishing.
>>737994893Warcraft and Starcraft difficulty is BS it cheats hard. They are powerfantasy games for the most part, so you should better play them on Normal if you want to have fun
>>737998851>play them on Normal>Starcraft
Night Elves.
>>737999220How could Blizzard decay so much?
>>737995641>Just do normal>The difference is minimalthe difference between normal and hard is not minimal, what? There is a big difficulty difference
>>737995396>My advice is don't even touch frozen throne campaign it's abysmal dog shit
>>737995198Abuse Arthas and Divine Shield.
>>737999689It was rotten to begin with, Warcraft 3 was lightning in a bottle.
>>737995396>I think you want to sneak a peasant to take the north gold mine early on but don't bother building defenses there because you can't defend itYou can cheese the AI by having one rifleman baiting the attack wave to assault your main base instead using hit and run.
>>738001454I don't think so because they also made the first 2 entries and Starcraft. Also, while not a part of the same team, Blizzard North made Diablo around that time too. They were putting out legendary games until the release of WoW.
>>737999119True, the original SC doesnt have difficulty options, but to be fair, it only gets hard in the broodwar expansion. I guess you can use cheats there to make it easier. I was talking about SC2
>>738001454Lost Vikings was alright.
>>738003860In terms of general difficulty, WC3 and Frozen Throne are noticeably easier than WC2 and its expansion which could be a fucking nightmare at times. Same for older RTS games that sometimes just became puzzles that had a handful of right answers for beating a mission, and a lot of wrong answers for failure. CnC1 had some no base missions where you had to be incredibly on point with your micro or you'd lose too many units or too much health to progress.
>>737994893Pretty sure hard mode in this game enables the AI to cheat in terms of obtaining resources. You can check a replay the AI will gather double gold and wood on hard.
