What are some JRPGs you're looking forward to? Are there any you are playing or played that you want to talk about?
>>
currently aiming I am Setsuna and Destiny Connect
>>
>>738001930
I was side eyeing setsuna but it looked mediocre.
>>
>>738001186
Nothing desu. Really disappointed with CV2 and now i'm back playing breath of fire 3.
>>
>>738001186
I'm looking forward to The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales
>>
>>738002094
there's a bof3 randomizer out there if you're looking for a challenge
>>
>>738002137
Same, actually. It's one of my anticipated games this year. I'm also really looking forward to trails second chapter, blue reflection quartet, and another eden begins.
>>
anyone played Zwei or Gurumin?
>>
>>738002290
I got the 2nd zwei game and gurumin when I was on my nayuta high but haven't played them yet. I heard the 1st zwei game isn't good.

Not sure if it counts as a JRPG, but I'm playing Stranger of Sword City. I got up to the Mausoleum of Storms and the game is kinda wearing itself out for me. Combat is always the same, either you spam AoE attack skills and just mash "re-do last action" every turn until combat is over, or the enemy is tough enough that you need to spam a bunch of -Defense debuffs on it first.

Also the game's difficulty curve seems kinda fucked. When I got to the volcano, the dorf zombies would 1-shot my frontline party members. Death is very punishing in this game, so that was no good. I decided to roll up a Knight, and then leveled him up a bit to give him the taunt ability to handle these guys. The very light amount of grinding I did to level him up and equip him made it so that, when I returned to the area I was having trouble with, almost every enemy did 1 point of damage with their attacks to my entire frontline. I didn't even need my newest member's taunt ability.

I don't know what's going on with the game's damage formula that causes this, but I don't like it. I should be able to solve problems I encounter by trying out new abilities and party compositions without accidentally overleveling myself to the point where nothing can hurt me.

Na, i'm just doing comfy run w/o any challenge. Maybe trying to collect all enemy skills this time cause i never bother with them before.

Are there any modern day JRPGs which use characters on static pre rendered backgrounds? Im guessing there probably hasnt been for 20+ years huh
>>
We need another legend of dragoon. Either a remaster, remake, or sequel. At this point its been long enough. If its shit I can just play the original.
>>
>>738002679
But I never knew you had a schmup thread? You're conflating me with another anon. Speaking of schmups I got sigma star dx since it looked interesting but we'll see.

Fantasian Neo Dimension?

Does Fantasian count? The backgrounds are actual physical dioramas instead of pre-rendered 3D, though.
>>
>>738002231
looks like there will be some good ones coming out

dude that's cool

Keep an eye on severed chains. Dev is slow as molasses but it looks promising.
>>
>>738001186
I'm looking forward to Labyrinth of Touhou Tri's Plus disk and MGQP's 4th route.
Are there even any other gameplay JRPGs coming out?
>>
>>738003535
When you say gameplay jrpg does that mean there's more focus on gameplay with little to no story?
>>
>>738003572
I don't mind a story but most JRPGs are braindead easy, I'm talking games like SMTVV
>>
>>738003604
Hard to say about anything upcoming since I don't know what they play like.

This game has unlocked my interest in imouto life sims. I've found several others in this blessed genre.
>>
I'm playing this :) I love it so much I like the colors and the characters :)
>>
>>738004112
It is a very good remake. First Departure R is on the switch btw.
>>
I've only played older JRPGs. Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, FF7 (OG), Golden Sun. Any recommendations on what to play next? Thinking FFX or even XII. I've enjoyed all the games I've played but liked how compact Chrono Trigger was the most.
>>
Does anyone have any jrpg with a shit ton of quests? RPGMaker games included.
>>
>>738006016

Currently this. heard it was gonna be hard but after seeing the build options opening up, I can easily see how I can just make strong builds. Hoping the challenge and builds won't disappoint.
>>
>>738003305
Oh wow that's actually pretty neat
Is the game any good or just a generic JRPG?
>>
>>738005042
Earthbound
Live A Live
Metal Max Returns
Tomato Adventure
Also weird modern indie stuff like Space Funeral, Barkley Gaiden and Lisa: The Painful
>>
>>738004946

Yeah I like that one too :) I would play it again but my phone is too slow to emulate :( I hope you are well today
>>
>>738006438
The game is hard as fuck with each battle feeling more like a puzzle.
>>738006545
I am well; just at work. I hope they plan on making a SO7 or a remake of 3.
>>
>>738006016
Xenoblade X
>>
>>738006687

Star ocean 7? Hmm. I hope they get a big budget for that one. I have been putting off the most recent ones due to bad reviews. Might try them anyways :)
>>
>>738006816
I tried getting into SO6 on my deck but the font UI is made for ants with no way to make it readable.

Couldn't get Grubble Relink to work with my PS5 controller. The game either does not recognize the device at all or it shows me xbox inputs. Scarlet Nexus kind of sucks the combat feels super stiff and those "comic book" cutscenes really suck.

Been playing Dungeon Antiqua 1&2 after some anon recommended them to me. Good games.
1 is definitely FF1/FF3 inspired while 2 dreams of being FF5. They're short little games but I enjoyed playing through them well enough, it's more than sated my party building optimism which is what really matters to me. Would recommend if you're an enjoyer of early FF (specifically the odd-numbered games).
>>
>>738001186
Finally finished Xenoblade X, chapter 13 was a mistake, at least it remembered to be a game for a little bit towards the end but but 13-1 and 13-2 were just pure pain. Great game overall still. Biggest frustration I had with it is how little the team building and progression matters compared to the other Xenoblades.

I dont think i can play JRPGs anymore. I always give up after 5-10 hours after starting a new game. I think ive finally 'outgrown' vidya. Go on without me bros...
>>
>>738008656
I still need to beat chapter 13. It's such a boring tacked-on slog of cutscenes
>>
>>738008753
Try other genres of games. I'm currently playing the Nioh games which have RPG elements in your build, skills and equipment but also has fun action elements you wouldn't get in a typical JRPG
>>
>>738008753
If you're serious, try to consider why you fall off those games. Are the stories interesting? Do you want less or more side content? Less or more linearity and openness? Or simply novel mechanics.

Combine that with also playing something from an era you don't typically play from. Do you have minimal experience with PS1 JRPGs? Try one
>>
>>738008930
I bought Devil May Cry HD and played the first level and i just dont feel like touching it ever again now.

Been playing MHS3 which was a huge surprise for me because I had always written off these games as shit but it's easily my GOTY unless something amazing surprises me
>>
>>738008995
>If you're serious, try to consider why you fall off those games. Are the stories interesting? Do you want less or more side content? Less or more linearity and openness? Or simply novel mechanics.
Hmmm. I think im just not finding them engaging enough. For example there have been so many tales of games ive started but just got bored because i dont care about the characters or the world of the situation theyre in and then i stop playing. I did that with Abyss, Berseria, Vesperia, Xilia and recently Graces. I also gave up on FF15 and FF16. I tried older PS1 like Legend of Dragoon but eventually it was just too slow and janky.
>>
>>738009019
I was playing the first one but the combat is too simplistic for how long the game is and I got bored
>>
>>738009323
Combat in the 3rd game is better
>>
>>738009017
DMC 1 is more like an old RE game (since it was meant to be an RE game during development). 2 is bad but 3-5 are the solid ones.
>>
>>738009379
Should I just move on to 3 then? I suppose i might as well since i have nothing to lose and have already bought them all
>>
>>738009457
1 isn't that long and you can basically cheese it with ranged weapons so I'd recommend at least beating it once. It's a good game even if it is simple compared to the others. 2 you can skip.
>>
>>738002679
shut up, otaku garbage
>>
>>738006438
It's a Sakaguchi game, so it's as good or as generic as Final Fantasy IV through X were. I liked it.
>>
>>738001186
Anybody here play Caligula Effect 2? I'm not done with it yet but I'm really liking it so far. They made that "optimizing the fun out of a game" criticism into a game. It'd be an actual good game if it had more enemy variety and more scripted fights (in that enemies would be arranged oddly, encounters like that really require attention to multiple spots and get really granular, so the unexpected happens often, which otherwise is almost always a nuisance because it's so infrequent). The story and designs are shit but it's no matter.
>>
>>738009314
Tales of games are very intentionally slow, with a lot of dialogue and intentional stopping points along with linearity. I love them but they can certainly be draining if you're used to them.

Try something with mechanics you're used to, I'd say. And maybe something more focused and with less down time.
>>
>>738009457
Yes. 3 is cringekino.
>>
>>738006016
Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy XVI
all the Xenoblade games
>>
>>738008995
>If you're serious, try to consider why you fall off those games. Are the stories interesting? Do you want less or more side content? Less or more linearity and openness? Or simply novel mechanics.
It's possible to rationalize one's dissatisfaction but it gets increasingly difficult to find a game meeting the set of demands you came up with. It's especially frustraiting if you've already played the best examples of a genre. So yeah, in this case it's better to jump to a completely different path like a new genre or platform\era.
>>
Is Granblue Relink worth playing if I know fuckall about Granblue?
>>
>>738001950
Setsuna is definitely a 4-5/10, don't recommend playing it.
All of these "indie" love letters to classic games are all very mediocre and don't understand what made the originals so great.
>>
>>738012601
Storywise no, but the story is garbage anyway. But it's good gameplay, just skip cutscenes.
