Stellar Blade's combat is a lot stiffer, the characters have way less personality, the story in general is a lot less interesting, the music isn't as good, the movement is a whole lot worse, the side quests aren't as well written or as interesting in general, the English voice acting in SB is terrible... The only way I would say SB beats Automata is that SB's combat doesn't break down at higher difficulties like Nier's does, but as long as you don't play it above Normal, Nier's combat is way more fun to play because the combat sandbox is way less restrictive. I like SB, but Automata is an all-time classic, SB is just a good game.

In the overwhelming majority of fights in SB, you will use the same two or three combos on loop for the entire game with maybe one special move thrown in there just to finish the fight faster, whereas Automata has lots of different weapons you can choose from to vary your combo. At its core, the combat in Stellar Blade looks flashier but really isn't that different from Automata's, it's just less fluid. And worst of all, once you get sick of fighting the same enemies over and over in an area while you're trying to hunt for soda cans and that stupid photo sidequest, you can't even effectively run away from the enemy because the game will disable your sprint when an enemy aggros. Like I said, the only thing SB really has going for it is combat, and combat in SB vs. Automata is basically personal preference more than anything. That's ignoring the giant pile of other things that Automata does better at. I'm not saying SB isn't a good game, I think it's a great game, but there's a reason why it copied most of Automata's homework.
