Kingdom hearts isn’t really a JRPG. It’s an anime souls like, or an anime action plat. Jrpgs are turn based.

1 is clunky but is the only game in the series that isn't cringe, which kind of blows my mind in retrospect. I guess because it wasn't taking itself too seriously yet and was focused on being a fun self-contained adventure.2 is the most fun. The combat is pure dopamine, and you can crank that shit up with Critical Mode if you wanna sweat. Plenty of secret bosses to wail on. Just be ready for some faggot shit dialogue, though honestly I find the autism endearing. The absurdity of Donald and Goofy interacting with Sephiroth is peak crossover bullshit, let alone just sharing disc space with fucking Winnie the Pooh, back when it all meant something and shit like Smash and Fortnite han't beat the horse to death yet.I also personally like Re: CoM and BbS but I'd just run 1 and 2 first before you fuck with the rest. See if it's something you'll stay interested in.

you can play kingdom hearts and never touch anything disney related ever and it wont matter. sometimes i even like to think of the disney characters as just in-universe characters like the final fantasy characters. the only time i watched anything disney was big hero 6 since san fransokyo in kh3 is technically a sequel to the movie. it was a fine movie too. the mainline games are some of the best action rpgs ever made. and if you get kh3 on pc, you should get the remind ability integration mod, which lets you acquire the new abilities throughout the game as if they were integrated in the game, instead of getting them all post game. and that would make your experience a lot better.

>>738024425Genuinely no. KH is a great series, but if you don't like Disney, it'd be really hard to get into it. The Disney stuff is basically the entire backdrop of the series. Yes, there are a lot of JRPG story telling shenanigans and character drama, but it's all happening while Tarzan is standing next to you, while Jack Sparrow is monologuing, while Mickey tells you about how the power of darkness can corrupt. The bosses you fight, the music you hear, the party members you get, the worlds you explore, 90% of it is straight from Disney. Hell, most of the games straight up retell the stories from the movies nearly verbatim, with maybe one or two scenes where an anime-looking character lore dumps at you while Donald and Goofy repeat things back but as a question.Again, the games are great. And if you can even tolerate Disney, there's probably some fun to be had. But the Disney part is inseparable. For every scene where you fight a cool boss that digs into the core plot of the game, you get five scenes where Ariel sings about how she wants to bang the prince or Peter Pan teaches you to fly.
