After playing Kodaka's other games I have come to realize Danganronpa was only good because of the strong concept and having Chunsoft overseeing him. I still have a soft spot for him as he's a fellow anti-censorship autist but I have been seriously dragging my feet about trying Shuten Order after feeling burned by the last few games I tried from him. Like his other games the concept sounds great and it looks stylish but I have no faith it will deliver.

>>738033318I'm playing Shuten Order right now, doing the fourth route out of five. It's a fascinating concept to have each route completely swap the VN subgenre it is and I think they've been meaty and narratively satisfying enough thus far (10 hours each), though you can feel they couldn't make in-depth gameplay for any of them and it's all cookie-cutter and overly guided. It's not a huge issue as long as the story is able to do a lot of heavy lifting, but that will also depend on how the overarching plot turns out since it's obvious there will still be some game left after doing all five routes. I'm enjoying it but I'm not sure I'd recommend it yet until I'll see it through to the end.

It also happened to be the last game because Kodaka was only ever contracted to make two more games after the success of DR1. Think about it - DR3 and V3 were developed simultaneously.
