Reggie: Nintendo doesn't discount their games because they build the best games that are feature-complete; likens them to imperial Kyoto craftsmanship
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2761065620?t=00h48m53s

Does /v/ agree with Reggie?

I guess? It's refreshing to say the least. I hate how every new game gets discounted to 50% after a few months of release, it makes me not want to buy them at release. Every time I buy a game on Steam I need to track the sales, check if this is the lowest price, try and predict the next one, not because I need the discount but because it feels wasteful to pay more than you can.

With Nintendo you don't need the same fear, you know it'll always be the same price so you might as well buy them whenever you want.

On the flip side I also skip on several Nintendo games because I don't feel like they are worth the price tag. But I do also buy lots of them. Not every publisher can do this, it's a very daring strategy and I'm sure many Nintendo IPs would have sold way more if they had discounts, it's the price of business I guess.

I am diagnosing you with autism.
Pay what you're comfortable with/what feels like an appropriate amount.
Who cares if it went on sale for 5 bucks 3 years ago.

i never buy PC games unless they're on sale

>pay $60
>game becomes $5 1 week later
>check steam's price history and realize the game is priced $5 for like 80% of the year
hell no, steam is unusable without steamdb

Glorious nintendo games are handcrafted by the game smiths in Nippon and folded over 1000 times. Gaijin cannot compete.

I'm pretty sure Steam has a system in place to give you the lower price if it goes on sale during a certain time period following your purchase
>>
>>738039791
This is an urban legend. You can refund a game if that happens but only if you already match the conditions that would guarantee a refund for any justification anyway (2 hours of playtime and 14 days of purchase)
>>
>>738037723
I'm never giving nintendo another cent
they can increase the price of their games for all I care, makes no difference to me
>>
>>738037723
Even Reggie said it himself, just buy the physical game for cheap at some retail store.
But I think this is Nintendo's classic stubbornness. Never ever dropping the price of the game is ridiculous to me even after years and years of it being out there.
>Kyoto craftsmanship
Your company released Pokemon Z-A.

He certainly isn't wrong. I have never been actively disappointed with a Nintendo game. Even their flawed ones with head-scratching design choices (Star Fox Zero....) were still Fun.

Gamefreak made those games, they are co-published by The Pokemon Company. Nintendo doesn't have anywhere near the control over Pokemon games as they do other ones, at best they can veto a games release but this would also negatively impact their relationship with TPC, it's not even remotely the same thing.
A better example is the remaster of Donkey Kong Country Returns, that released in a really bad state.

When nintendo becomes successful they become arrogant/greedy

just look at the Wii U days they literally had to give games away just to attract people and dropped the price on the 3DS.

not a nintendo game
>>
>>738044437
pretty much, Nintendo is very much hands off when it comes to 2nd party stuff like gamefreak, Hal, etc the only thing they do is say "we want you to release this game in [month] since there's nothing coming out then"
>>
>>738044854
maybe making a game with +500 unique creatures within a 2 year time span and fuck all budget just isn't viable anymore.
>>
>>738037834
Yeah, it's a double edged sword. For something I really want to play, I'll pay Nintendo's price but for something I'm on the fence about I'll basically never buy it because it never goes on sale.

For PC/PS5, it's the opposite. Unless I REALLY need to play the game at launch I'll just wait until it's on sale and I'll grab a lot of games I might have never tried otherwise because they're on sale for cheap.

Yes

>remake the same game repeatedly with often 1 new mechanic to make it seem new.
>shocked that over 40 years of doing this the games you release are complete.
