maybe they should just make good games.
>>
>>738038961
Sounds like they still need to fire another 1/3rd before gaming stops being dogshit
>>
How many of those were re-hired 6 months later?
>>
>>738038961
No, that's just called "third worlders are finally able to afford devices that can pirate games".
>>
>>738038961
Perhaps they should try to make good games that are fun to play instead preachy boredom simulators.

why is an article focused on layoffs using the nintendo(a japanese company) switch 2 as the image and not PlayStation or xbox?
>>
>>738038961
that's not why, op
the real reason is that one third of jobs in the industry can be replaced by A.I. and so they did
>>
>>738038961
Gaming is largely buoyed by youth and always has been, and it seems that social media aka brain rot Tiktok and YouTube auto play algo shit has pushed a lot of average teens and young adults into caring more about political shit and clavicular and ishowspeed than gaming.

Granted gaming is still a big thing, but the general era of being impressed by games as tech demo marvels has long faded and people are experienced enough to know what is not worth wasting time on or not, like multiplayer games are generally not worth it if you don't have the time or care to compete with the sweats. So you just wait for the occasional interesting game like crimson desert and/or buy into some hype like elden ring here and there. But actually good games don't just grow on trees and never did so we just get gulfs sometimes.

Also with pirating, for Japanese games they often literally have no alternative and for Western games people are not going to cry about pirating something from some obviously corrupted wokeslop dev that relishes shitting on its customers and expecting us to pay for it. In an alternate dimension Ubisoft could have still been good and AC Shadows could have been a cool ass ninja game with no real controversy and we would bask in its glory. But we don't live in that timeline.

At the very least.
>>
>>738038961
People are being too cheap because the economy was fucked over in 2008 by the bank bailouts. OWS was right.

>>738038961
Good.

>One-Third

It needs to be much higher. The US video game industry needs to be a cautionary tale for future generations.
>>
I think it's been established by now that this is how studios work? Why are we surprised? Don't they need time to conceptualize and what not in between games and also sometimes there's just no funding for another game and tudio go out of businessall the time if they dont perform well? This is normal stuff for games, it's like the end of a films production, most of the crew have to find new work after.
>>
>>738045269
It's not normal. The industry had seen decades of persistent growth.

When was even the last time the US did a great game?

Don't get me wrong, the US has made a large part of what constitutes my favourite games of all time, such as Planescape Torment, Fallout, Deus Ex, Age of Mythology, SMAC, HOMM3, Thief etc., but I can't remember the last time they made a great game, much less an amazing one.

Do they even have what it takes any more?
>>
>>738038961
Stop releasing games on PC = problem solved.
>>
>>738038961
Nahh, just big studios. Indie devs are ok. Intravenous Creator from explosive squat is doing juuuust fine.

Bloat is starving, lean is thriving.
>>
Lay off more industry pieces of shit. Make them starve for ruining video games.
>>
>>738038961
This is a good thing.
The vidya industry needs a hard crash.
>>
>>738038961
This is very easy to solve
Just make everything online only f2p with mtx
Now pirate can't steal your game
>>
>>738052062
Won't happen as long as mobileshit's keeping the industry thriving.
>>
>>738038961
Check the rest of your industry.
It's not just gaming one dying in USA.

Why are these mario screenshots always fake? Like the other one that combines Mario World with sprites from Mario 3. Why not just use actual real Mario screenshots to make your point?
>>
>>738038961
>pirating and being too cheap
Companies have completely embraced soul-sucking corporatism, they tried to "solve" the game industry by spending more money to make worse versions of the same games we've seen a million times already
>>
>>738052956
It doesn't make a single difference to the argument, autismoid.
>>
>>738038961
>gaming is dying
Wow that's crazy, it's almost like a group conspired to rot the industry from the inside out and leveraged the political, social and especially economic weapons at their disposal to do it as part of a wider agenda to destroy Western culture.
>>
>>738053061
>It doesn't make a single difference to the argument
It's dishonest. And it's retardedly dishonest because it doesn't actually achieve anything.
>>
>>738039442
games may "look" better than ever graphically.
but gameplay is more dogshit than ever (press X repeatedly and watch endless cutscenes).
characters/plots/settings are more dogshit than ever (preachy libtard bs with ugly characters).
games are shorter than they used to be.
games cost more than the ever have.
