SupCom is the most strategic RTS with how micro, macro, economy, and scale all factor into every moment. Play FAF.
>>
>>738040709
Maybe when they finally add that area reclaim order they've shown ages ago
>>
>>738041226
Oh and when they also fix their mind-bogglingly retarded hotkey system
>>
>>738041226
Just set to attack move or patrol.

>>738041283
What's wrong with it?
>>
>>738041330
Then why did they even advertise that feature? Could've also worked on area mex, but they chose not to.

And what's NOT wrong with the hotkeys? Just the singular fact that there are mods out there like that new ReUI stuff that adds even MORE combinations such as Transportation/Overcharge... It's just embarrassing. There's no other way to put it. How about the strategic geniuses over at FAF think for once and consider simply letting people... Oh, I don't know, binding a key to multiple actions??? We currently live in this stone age where we have retarded binds for multiple preset actions. God forbid if you want to change things around! Embarrassing dispray
>>
>>738041543
I wish the Zero-K schizo was here to mock us because this is beyond retarded
>>
>>738041543
>area mex
What's that?

>Just the singular fact that there are mods out there like that new ReUI stuff that adds even MORE combinations such as Transportation/Overcharge
You mean you want one button to do transportation and overcharge? Why? The hotkeys are fine.
>>
>>738041694
Oh, it's this veeery scary feature present in clearly inferior games such as BAR, Zero-K, and Planetary Annihilation that let's you simply drag your mouse and put mexes everywhere in the radius of selection... Very advanced. Please understand.

I do not like the way you phrase that question. Why WOULDN'T you want to have multiple non-conflicting actions on one key? FAF already half-asses it with its presets, so what kind of question is that? Do you not use hotkeys? I, for one, would appreciate being able to trigger actions without needing to shift my hand across the entire keyboard. And even if you don't care about that, surely you would appreciate being able to order units with the same key as building a radar, like the default FAF layout does? Please, stop talking nonsense

>Not playing with an MMO mouse.
>>
>>738042465
Do you use one? I do not remember, but something tells me FAF potentially does not support mouse keys... If I'm correct, that's yet another addition to FAF's embarrassments
>>
>>738042625
Yes. You can set G600 buttons to numpad buttons or whatever.
>>
>>738040709
You really liked that artwork didn't you?
>>
>>738042789
Sounds good ig, but it's not really a concession I want to make just to circumvent a design mistake

Same vibe

I think I know one reason why RTS might not be as popular a multiplayer game as other genres after getting my normie friends to play some matches of DoW1 with me. They all wanted to bunker down in their separate parts of the map for like 10 minutes before attacking at all....so I picked Orks and forced them to engage in something other than city building. Apparently, that's not very fair, but I ain't gonna just let the Necrons get to T3 either. Not Orky to just sit there and do nuffin.
>>
>>738043851
One against multiple? Were those even odds?
>>
>>738043903
We did a free for all first, then 3v1 when it became obvious I knew what I was doing, before we just did a bunch of 4v4 against Hard AI. I'm not even good, I just know the basic bitch mechanics for RTS games. I played Chaos for the team games because they're weak but have Cultists as a very easy to access detector because they kept using Tau as the Hard AI opponent.

>>738044025
Wish I had that many pals I could drag into rts. I did, for a very short while, but it was clear none of them were ever going to stick with these games

>>738043851
Rts doesn’t really have a game there unless you study it. You can still play MMOs or mobas at a low rating, and enjoy it somewhat. If you’re bronze in an rts you probably aren’t having any fun. I actually had to study it lol I had like my own booklet where I took notes and read like the entire internet from other professionals in the game who wrote guides and would study pro games and literally write down everything they did to visually see the information differently. It took a lot of effort, i just don’t see myself doing that for these 20 year old games that have like thousands of little details you need to understand. Maybe if there’s a new game I might do it again, I dunno. Its literally a requirement, you can’t just rely on mechanical skill or intuition, you’ll lose a lot of games without the proper foundation.
>>
>>738043851
It's very obvious why. Very casual and slow-paced turtling vs frantic expansion. Everyone starts out that way, but few stick around until they get out of that phase. That's not to say that turtling isn't fun, but something you made me realize is that maybe every new rts player starts that way, and gets seriously put off if a community or a friend immediately pushes them into the later stage
>>
>>738044103
It can be fun, but normally they make me play random 5 dollar asset flip games or whatever the new AAA slop game is with them, so sometimes I try to introduce them to something that isn't complete trash. It's a mixed bag, I tell you what.
>>
>>738044342
Same. Felt briefly insulted when I suggested one such low quality game (I think it was Chained Together) and actually got complimented on picking a decent game. Tbf we were all scrounging around for friendslop tho. Haven't played with them in almost over a year now...
>>
>>738044312
I don't think you even need to do all of that just to play casually, just keep to the basics and you'll do fine. Shit, you can even get away with not micro'ing all that much and still potentially win if you just keep producing shit and your opponent doesn't or can't keep up with your production. Just make shit, branch out to the map, grab more resources as you go, and sometimes runaway when it looks like it's not going well. A dead squad is more expensive to train than a mostly alive squad that just needs to be reinforced.

Gas Powered Games did some amazing work with the look of the units in this game

The Cybran and UEF ACUs look great
The Seraphim ACU looks neat for what it is
The Aeon ACU is the only one that doesn't stand out like the others

Saw this release recently and thought I'd shill it here. Seems like a neat mix of CnC and Starcraft, although I haven't tried it myself just yet.

I'd say RTS is in a better state than it was some years back when you had SC2 and nothing else. Now indies are at least trying. Problem can basically be explained with "not everyone wants the traditional RTS experience so sub-genres exist that focus on specific aspects that appeal to different groups". People who want to turtle gravitate to city-builders, for example.

Once again I blame esports shit. Big companies desperately trying to make new Starcraft and explosively shitting their pants in the process killed all momentum for the genre while TBS slowly and steadily did its own thing and maintained the pace. But I'd say RTS had a small resurgence as well in recent years with all the remakes and indies.
>>
>>738049412
what anons above said but you also have to keep in mind rts never really had the critical mass of audience modern popular genres can field, esports notwithstanding since it was a korean thing for the most part. it's the same reason why point and click adventures can't get some massive revival. because their glorious heyday was a blip compared to modern popularity.

I do not care for the way the FAF team balances the game. They insist upon balancing it for conpetitivefags.
>>
>>738049412
Grand Strategy is more played because "less stress"

>>
>>738050872

>>
>>738043851
You can turtle on some SupCom maps, maybe all the 20km+ maps, if you just make enough units not to get overrun.
>>
>>738049779

>>

What's something you don't like?
>>
It's a shame this style of gameplay never took off. Hero focused maps were massive in the WC3 custom map scene but no other games attempted to capture the feeling of the Rexxar campaign. I know Spellforce 3 has that troll campaign but it's still a traditional RTS in many regards with base building and all that. Considering how much people like farming in MOBAs you'd think there be a market for a hero-focused game with RTS controls that isn't an ARPG where you delete entire screens worth of enemies with particle effects every 2 seconds.
>>
>>738054269

I'm skrry SupCom fren, but discussing SupCom here is impossible due to all the SPRING Engine schizos. Just know that I'm with you in spirit, for what it's worth.
