>Spiders officially liquidated after Nacon shenanigansWell, it's been a hell of a run guys. The worst part is GF2 will never get patched to something decent. >Technomancer>Greedfall>Bound by Flame>Steelrising
>>738057358to be fair spiders had troubles as a developer even before their ceo clearly got ousted. now, styx 3 is the one I'm shocked managed to get released normally and avoid bullshit.
>>738057358I played bound by flame yeaaars ago, it was as spidersjank as they came
>>738057358fucking RIP
>>738057358>GF2I still have no idea what they were even doing with the direction switch.>action RPGto>RTWP party-centric RPG
>>738057358They had an okay run, Greedfall was better than expected, maybe my expectations were really low after Bound by Flame and Technomancer though. I didn't have the time for Greedfall 2 yet.
>>738057358>spiders dead>don't nod allowed to develop agenda pushing bullshitsuch is life
>>738057397>>738057465their troubles clearly began when nacon wanted to get onboard that bg3 bandwagon which lead to game overhaul. I wonder what she's doing now.
I think Greedfall 2's shift in gameplay system was a result of how publishers started demanding Baldur Gate 3 kind of games after they saw Larian's overwhelming success with a turn-BASED game.Spiders had finally managed to get somewhere semi-decent with their actionjank, and then they had to chuck it out. maaaaaan.
>>738057542You'd think they had learned their lesson of the disaster that was Banishers.
>>738057358bioware on a budget
>>738057542Spiders went woke too though. They had 3 female romances, a white woman, a black woman and a native woman. Guess who got cut?
>>738057420Their own fault. Gf1 is unplayable.>go to x and tell him zTravel 10 minutes and kill peasant burglars with literally 0 incentive, basically bleeding items out>x: no, go back and tell him idcTravel back 10 minutes loosing more resources>x might be right, tell him... Whatever you feel like, have to go, byeYou play 3 mi utes for 5 minutes of boring dialogue. No wonder the game flopped. Which is a shame, it has decent worldbuilding.>liquidationThis means no one holds the rights to their stuff, right?
>>738057358Everyone forgets their first RPG.
>>738058503Can I play as the buff faery boy and harass faery girls?
>>738057867Ill take it now that bw is dead
>>738057358Greedfall 2 was terrible
>>738057358dayum shayum
>>738057358That's pretty normal for a Spiders game though. It's almost good, but never quite there. Now they're gone, because they almost had success, but not quite there.
>>738059601zamn. pottery
damn that's a shame, loved the first gameshit like this should be illegalis it worth playing on a deep discount?
>>738057465Also they released a story focused RPG in early access... why?
>>738059982Cash
>>738058503This game is good to play but there's only like 1 hour of story and then it just dies lol
>>738057609Their troubles began from inception. Bound by Flame is an awful fucking game, so is Technomancer, Greedfall had so much copypaste that it could not even be described as jank so much as lazy - genuinely the only games they ever did that weren't insultingly bad were Styx and Steelrising, and Steelrising being a very big "if" you ignore the nevertheless high amounts of jank still there.Any measure of direction towards something new anyone could have given them could only be positive. They just didn't make the cut. The talent was not there.
>>738060283How big was their team?
>>738061087Apparently a core team of 20-30 people, but GF2 had almost 100 in the credits.
>>738057358I'll miss them
>>738061087The team size wasn't the problem. The problem was rooted entirely on having no vision, no personal ideas or inspiration and clearly no idea of what they were doing.Every game they made was a copy of a better game, except somehow mixed with things that went entirely against it while removing the parts that made the game they copied popular, leaving some hollow husk that pretended to be something it wasn't with a storyline stapled on top that usually was retarded and ended as abruptly as it began. It was always a mess and buggy to hell and back. Inexcusable bugs, too. Bound by Flame had shit like talking to an NPC in a particular moment suddenly finishing the conversation having teleported your character to the last area of the game, AUTOSAVED IMMEDIATELY AFTER, and through the process of the conversation spoiled you how you you'd eventually get there.HOW do you manage to fuck up that bad?
I liked Technomancer and Greedfall well enough, Bound by Flame was definitely bad though (had some nice ideas at least). It's kinda fucked that the hole Bioware left behind cannot be filled and instead swallows more and more as time goes on.
>>738061628Bound by Flame is basically missing a good third of the game, and it's towards the end. You never get to deal with all the Seven Ice Lords as story just abruptly cuts off.
>>738061853>>738062441The game also tried way too fucking hard to do Bioware-bait shit, ignoring the Morrigan ripoff altogether, moments like her and the elf abruptly and with no buildup forcing you into the whole >IT'S ME OR HER WE HATE EACH OTHER like it meant something to you when there was absolutely no reason for it to happen, or the game telling you if you let your demon side take over people will start reacting negatively to you... except nobody ever does.Such a shambling corpse of a game.
>>738062624BbF is a ~15 hour game. That lack of screen time development is what happens when you want to speedrun the same experience Bioware's 40+ hour game would work with.
Spiders never really made a 'must play' kind of game, and everything they did make was janky as hell, but I think I'll miss them. There's not a lot of AA/mid level development groups left, and at least they were always trying new things
>>738057358Greedfall was their only big break.
>>738057358Surprised it even lasted that long.
>Manage to finally get their combat design to a decent level>Immediately throw the baby out with the bathwater because your retard publisher wants you to create discount BG3Dumb retards. Spiders was the discount Mass Effect studio, not Baldur's Gate! It's funny though, considering there are multiple Mass Effect-likes in the pipeline now while people want more.
>>738062956I was botu surprised and happy when they announced a sequel but that excitement immediately evaporated when it was revealed to actually be a prequel and basically the same setting.I would've loved to go north to an arctic place with aurora borealis and whales and all that jazz.
>>738063586>decent levelIf you mean pic rel, that's fucking generous.
>>738058503I remember playing that ages ago. Trippy game, oddly engaging
>>738062793Except Spiders never tried a single new thing whatsoever. It was always a trend chasing team.
>>738057358Wait a second, I just checked. The game actually released? I thought it was still stuck in early access hell.Did they even finish the game or did they just push it out the door to try and save the studio?
>>738064384It's Spiders, my dude. Guess.
>>738064434That sucks. Oh well, guess Owlcat and all those CDPR outcast studios have to pick up the slack.
>>738061235Gf2 is finished? Even 30 is solid if properly skilled.>>738061628>The problem was rooted entirely on having no vision, no personal ideas or inspiration and clearly no idea of what they were doing.Obviously. I don't know why they wanted to make a game. >Every game they made was a copy of a better game, except somehow mixed with things that went entirely against it while removing the parts that made the game they copied popular, leaving some hollow husk that pretended to be something it wasn't with a storyline stapled on top that usually was retarded and ended as abruptly as it beganEven if their goals was to be as shitty as possible, they would've had a hard time surpassing this colossal failure.
>>738058503I bought this on sale for $1.99, I actually liked the weird system where what kind of wings/horns/etc. bullshit you have on your character directly effects gameplay and what you can do in combat. Too bad the game is just straight up unfinished.
>>738057358Too much ambition for a way too small budget. They could make something better, if they would do more abstract stuff (like isometric RPGs) than all the 3d action-adventure games (with light rpg mechanics) that they previously made.
>>738066339the 3D ones used a market hole thoughalthough I guess they could've benefited from the CRPG renaissance
>>738057358>Spiders officially liquidatedGood, took far too long
