The fact that the developers need to make the game beatable even through low IQ playstyles, e.g. button spamming your melee attack instead of setting traps or tactically positioning yourself, makes it so that single player games will never have good combat mechanics. The only good combat games mechanically speaking are either multiplayer or turn based squad games.
