D4 is weaponized dopamine hit showering you in shinies from the planning table which gives you tons of varied content and fun little upgrade trees for each activity. it all gets scooped up without arsing around playing tetris. you take any half decent item to the cube, target remove-add affixes, temper what you want, imprint what you want, add sockets, masterwork - bam, a perfect or perfect enough item as a reward for your time. and it all looks and feels glorious.

The Apocalypse build for Warlock is pretty fun. It's also nice that progression takes longer.

Things D4 still probably hasn't fixed since launch:>Leveling feel like shit. You're relatively strong in the beginning, but you fall off pretty hard before reaching max level because the game is designed around you having iLvl over your character level. And because iLvl power is exponential, you get a lot weaker right before max level.>Items are shit because you have to parse through mountains of garbage for nothing. Gear itself is super boring because you're implanting the same character-specific "affixes" onto your gear each time in order to reach the intended power level.>Skills are shit because so much power is offloaded onto your gear. Builds are less about the individual skills, but which types of skills your gear specifically buffs.>Map zones are practically meaningless because you just go to whatever event is going on to farm the same thing in every region.

All the areas are unique, the enemies aren't level scaled, there are memorable NPCs and music. What separates the zones in D4? One is a desert, the other a swamp and another is a winter zone? Great. You're still fighting bears, demons and cultists and you never feel like you're getting more powerful. D4 has the same problem as WoW where endgame really IS the game and you're stupid for not getting there as fast as possible.

Either you rush to do it at lv60-65, or take your time and do it closer to 80 is your choice, for the most part you are gonna go back to some other zone to farm anyway, so if you want to make a detour to run some Countess for runes, The Pit for an easy lv85 zone, Andariel/Mephisto for boss kills, Eldritch/Pindle for quick unique pack farm, Travincal, or Chaos Sanctuary full runs, there is nothing stopping you. The only major unlocks for killing Baal are cows and terror zones, but not all builds want to farm cows, and you don't really need to rush into TZs. I don't think you even need to kill Baal to get access to ubers. Either you are lv60, 80 or 90 doesn't matter for the items you get from monsters, and you don't need to get to lv99 at all. If you are lucky you can get useful high runes or uniques the moment you get into Hell, or even in late Nightmare (like my first Warlock playthrough where my first NM Baal kill dropped a BK ring). Unless you are spefically running TZs all the time, you will probably get everything you wanted in a season and stop playing in like lv94-96 range. No specific max level, static items, and no exponential damage growth where you go from thousands to millions and then quad/quint/fuckzillions of damage dealt just because you reached the critical point of gearing and other systems at max level. All of that makes D2 less of a rush game. Some people will still obsess over speedrunning with sorc, but it's just not as necessary.
Got to like torment 10, was doing the lillith fight to progress the season journey shit and completely forgot how obnoxious the endgame version of that boss is. Just one shots out the ass. I'm done. It's an ok game for a weekend, but it's not worth anything beyond that. Other ARPGs shit all over it.
