I'm trying to decipher what people love so much about this game. It's stylish but the gameplay is so basic. It feels like an on-rails shooter with the most basic of puzzle mechanicsStylistically it kinda reminds me of SMT:DDS which were also PS2 games
>>738075117Yup. That's what I like about it. The style. I remember the first time I beat it back on release and being so God damned confused as to the storyline I started talking to myself out loud trying to understand what I had just finished. I don't care for on rails shooters. But this ones world is so cool and fun to exist in to me I put up with the lacking gameplay.
>>738075117As with all Suda games, it's just the style. His games look good and sound good but have at best passable gameplay and the writing always falls apart as soon as you think about anything as being part of a story instead of individual cool sounding sentences.
>>738076224Sounds like Evangelion
Obligatory
>>738075117killer7 imo is a great example of a game having soulthe story is vague as hell but interesting, distinctive art style, and the gameplay is jank but you can tell effort was put into it. like why would you use coyote instead of dan when dealing with smiles? idk but he sounds funny
>>738076947Isn't coyote better at blowing limbs off or smthn?
>>738078020I think since he has a skill that lets you auto target limbs but its really only useful on killer8 since u cant see weakspots anymore in that mode
Killer7 and No More Heroes have pretty basic gameplay but the bosses, dialogue, and plot are entertaining. Killer7 is slightly better than NMH because NMH wanted to do a commentary on shallow open worlds by putting a shallow open world into it where you do "third-rater jobs" like collecting coconuts and scorpions before unlocking an assassination contract to go kill some random guy who works at Jizzy Jims in a parking garage. In a way it's soul but Killer7's soul was more fun soul so therefore it's a better game.
