A reminder that AssCreed (the first one) was the beginning of the end. This is where most if not all of the cancerous tropes that plague 'modern video games' either originated of got bulk popularized: corporate minimalistic UI with plain text and rectangles, autosaves, regenerating health, prompt-based gameplay, excessive handholding, target markers, cinematic events etc., etc. You can find some individuals elements in earlier games but you will not find them all of them together earlier than AssCreed, which came out in 2007.

Yes, the series has always been terrible.
>>
First one didn't even have parry and never stuck you in a room with more than 3 enemies except at the end where the game becomes complete diarrhea.
>>
>>738078572
In general the 7th generation is responsible for basically every evil in video games but so much of /v/ grew up with it they forget. The PS3 is now demonstrably the worst console ever in how it affected the industry
>>
>>738078690
That's not accurate. Stuff like UI is terrible for other games but fits flavorfully into AC1
>>738078753
Huh, but it did thoughst'verbeit. I remember specifically that it was a challenge to use the Hidden Blade in combat the first game, since you had to rely on a tight parry window
>>
>>738078753
it certainly did have parry, because it's the only one I played
>>
>>738078825
>The PS3
you mean the X360? though I will agree that both suck ass
>>
>>738078572
This game is fantastic.
>>
>>738078957
the pstriple was a nightmare for multiplats to port to and undoubtedly ate up a lot of dev time where the 360 wouldn't

It didn't have a hidden blade parry, but you could parry with a regular weapon
>>
>>738078572
AC invented none, not even one of these features
>>

was the instant combat kill with the blade not a parry?

the eagle vision shit pisses me off too. it might not be offensive in this game, but it became ubiquitous in these third person action games. doesn't pragmata have that shit?
>>
>>738079325
and? what have this to do with the evil in video games? older console were also difficult to make games, and it was a good thing, it was forcing devs to optimize their games instead of throwing unlimited hardware
>>
>>738079864
it forced devs to cripple their games to work on consoles, to the detriment of pcs above third world specs

An Inconvenient Truke
>>
>>738079906
and look at the result now...do you think its better? is the merging between console and pc development made a better result?
back then console game ported on PC were optimized (mirrors edge, far cry 2 etc...) and PC games only were still existing (Crysis 1), in top of that, because of the difficulty of the PS3, many games were made purely for that console only (motorstorm, wipeout, heavy rain, demon souls, uncharted etc....), again, it's the X360 that fucked everyone.
>>
>>738078572
yeah

>>738078572
It showed the industry the Easy Mode for game development at scale, and then everyone started using it. We were good for a while because Wii and DS were pumping out novel gameplay concepts at the same time as Naughty Dog pioneered with Uncharted, Xbox had Halo 3, and BioWare had Mass Effect.

But once Breath of the Wild came out, there was no hope left. Nintendo was the final company that should've abstained from the AC Dev Structure
>Muh AGILE development with SCRUM
But they kowtowed after BioWare did it with DA Inquisition, Snoy doing it with Horizon and InFamous, Microsoft defaulting to Assassin's Creed and CoD slop as their "premier" series
And then all we have now is an industry with slop. The "best game in decades!" being an Ubibox clone game says that the bar for quality and expectations is now at rock bottom.

I remember I really wanted to play this game. I was jealous of my friends who could run it, and I had to play Prince of Persia instead because that's all my shitty PC could handle. What was it, 2007? 2008? I had some shitty Radeon 128MB videocard and AMD Athlon 3000 single core CPU, and then I got brand new GeForce 9600GT with 512MB and DirectX 10, and I finally played it. I remember it was just really boring game. It was fun at first, running around doing shit. But I never got to finish it. I was bored out of my mind. Mobile game was fucking fire, though.
>>
>>738079839
The original purpose of Eagle vision is that you would use it on the synchronization points so you could find events and characters you need to interact with, but the developers ended up adding a UI which made it redundant. Eagle vision in the first game is about as useful as it should be and every game after it has fucked it up.

Unity is good and I'm tired of pretending otherwise.

And they stole everything from MGS1 and 2
Fuck Kojima and his dogshit ideas
>>
>>738085114
at least pretend you played MGS1 and 2. They have nothing in common
>>
>>738085403
they're both stealth games with shallow, surface level stealth and story focus. and ac1 story is basically mg1 but in vr through GENES. also teh illuminati bad.

No feature is what makes AC the cancer that ruined games. What makes AC the progenitor of the thing that ruined AAA is its development structure and the "Ubibox" approach to design.

The thing where you plan content into spreadsheets, as you do, but it is Open Worldy, and then the entire game is built by delegating anonymous members of staff to "fill out" the game with preset activities.

This is basically GTA, but GTA has a bigger emphasis on the sandbox outside of missions, and main missions being pretty tight, and side activities feeling like fluff.

AC is different in that the whole game is like a distraction of quantities. "Just go to the places on the map that light up." "Please go to the Next Tower, so you can get the things that light up, so you can waste 5 hours doing SIDE ACTIVITIES, so that you get closer to 100%"

It figured out an addictive pattern that replaces immersion and quality with quantity.

>>738080374
Yep. Faggots are now crying about unoptimized PC ports, games are bloated as fuck and require top tier hardware but look than PS4 games. We were eating good when consoles were weak and devs HAD to optimize. Now it's jeet code all the way down.
>>
>2007
Which is coincidentally when iPhones started getting popular.
>>
>>738085985
I was 11 when the first game came out and I liked it.
Kids tend to like things that you never will anymore.
>>
>>738086042
But it wasn't the game that made things that way but the players who asked for more
>>
>>738085985
>i never understood why this series got popular in the first place
it was a fresh idea when it came out, do you retards not understand basic historical context?
>>
>>738086318
>do you retards not understand basic historical context?
This. Everyone liked it so much it set the industry standard, then got driven into the ground because everyone used it everywhere for years. Then the oversaturation turned people away form it.
I hate goddamn zoomers so fucking much.

The angrier a redditor gets the more times they press the enter button. When they're really upset, every word gets its own paragraph. I'll try to communicate with it in it's own language.

Assassin's

game
>>
>>738086593
It was a cool idea, people liked the idea of a game about being an Assassin during the crusades. it sold a lot.
>>
>>738079649
Wrong. The hidden blade had a parry, in fact the strongest parry in the game. You couldn't block with it, the window was the tightest but if you were successful it was an instant kill. Even on Templars.
>>
>>738078572
AC1 is easily one of the best for the sheer fact that it let you investigate prior to the assassinations, and gave you multiple infiltration and escape routes.
>>
>>738086737
I hate how they pussied out of making assassins actual muslim terrorists and templars zog christcucks like in real life

nta, it got popular because of this trailer being shown all over the internet, before youtube was the only place to watch videos.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlx9MOq7Mxs
This was mad hype for teenage boys and historical medieval war movies were huge in hollywood, back when hollywood was bigger than gaming. Kingdom of Heaven (2005) was massively popular and the aesthetic of AssCreed is lifted straight from it. People were talking about it everywhere, "Hey have you heard about Assassin's Creed? You gotta watch the trailer bro". It was fresh, everyone was excited about stealth killing, parkour and historical accuracy. This was also a time when gaming was trying to be "taken seriously" as an artistic medium, on par with film. Same reason why all the games of that era are dour and gritty. There were arguments about whether or not video games were art at all, so AssAss had that going for it. It's still impressive for its climbing mechanics. This was the prototype Ubisoft game before it got stale and nobody would have copied the formula if it wasn't good. IMO they didn't really refine the popular concept until AssAss 2, but that's debatable.

I have a lot of fun with it but I don't feel like finishing the story mode.

Assassin's Creed Shadows is a bad game because there was no way it would ever live up to the hype, nothing will ever feel enough even if I will gladly buy a pricey DLC or two introducing real ninja disguise or armies battle plus horseback combat..

Sasuke doesn't blend at all with the setting because he is a perfect surrogate to introduce Japanese culture to baka gaijin like us. He also the best choice to represent the Assassin's creed since he cannot hide, seek to live with honor to repay his savior and protect the innocent..

Game would have been better if they removed him from the in-game history by racist Templar in their attempt to rewrite history for their culture war.

Not being able to instantly assassinate everyone is horrible if you are a retard who cannot accept some enemies needing a bit more effort to kill.
>>
Auto saves were a thing long before AC1 desu. A load of PS2 games had auto saves.
>>
>>738086743
Even the final boss was a 1 hit kill with the hidden blade which was funny as you miss his dialogue if you do that
>>
>>738089634
>hype
There was no hype. The only reason anyone talked about it was the controversy.
>>
Jak and Daxter had auto saves in 2001
