why did it fail?
>>
no gacha
>>
Didn't advertise there being new content well enough. Wasn't worth full price for said new content anyway. Too many people never played braid with their only exposure being the memes made at the game's expense.

Blow is unlikable
>>
>>738082458
so? his games are good
>>
>>738082108
woooooooooop
>>
>>738082108
wtf was that 20+ hour developer commentary they added?
>>
>>738082108
because blow blew about 2 million making it
>>
>>738082108
it didn't need a remaster
>>
>>738082108
the only reason it succeeded the first time round is that it was one of about 12 indie games available for download at the time. it would never succeed if it was released in the modern era, it doesnt appeal to modern tastes and its a pretty unmarketable game, regardless of whether or not its actually good.
>>
>>738082108
Pretentious shovelware for homosexuals, just like the original edition.
>>
>>738082108
You can just play the original on Steam. Braid is a game that neither needed or warranted any kind of remaster. As for other platforms, Braid was a notable title in the early indie landscape, but it doesn't really stand out anymore.
>>
>>738082108
no marketing
came out as right wing so alienated all the leftist indie scene and journo clique (they'll also demolish the sokoban, see schreier's hit piece)
extremely poor communication about new content (not even worth pirating)
different market, blow being delusional and failing to understand current reality
aint got not point to the remaster
>>
>>738082108
It didn't need to exist
>>
>>738083915
Not only that, it was implemented in a really stupid way.
>>
>>738082108
Braid blew up because it released in the 2008-2012 era, where it was both easy to buy and hard to develop/publish indie games. All the attention got divided between like twenty games, which caused Braid to get way more attention than it would if it released at any other time.
Nowaways, anyone can develop an indie game for free with an idiot-proof engine like Unity, and publish it on Steam for a flat fee of a hundred bucks. The market is absolutely flooded, and a "pretty good" game like Braid does not stand out enough to justify buying.
Fez is another example of this. It's not a bad game, but nowaways, there's a new Fez releasing every week.

Ain't no point, man.

I had no clue until this thread that there was new content. I assumed it was just a 'remaster' with some slop ass AI upscaled assets and ignored it as soon as I heard it existed.
>>
>>738086317
Same. I didn't understand why the "remaster" needed to exist but just mentally archived the info cause I didn't think it was important.

Only reason Braid was initially a success was because it came out at the exact perfect time when interest in indie games was spiking but there was not much competition. The game was, as the kids say, mid. Now there's insane amounts of competition so of course no one gives a shit about a re-release.
>>
While I agree on the failure of braid anniversary, I lmao at people that think blow success was only caused by low competition.
Braid and witness both sold millions on release and they are not outdated even a decade later.
Even that shitty sokoban game will sell gangbusters because blow design is just that good.

>lmao at people that think blow success was only caused by low competition.

It was and that's simply a fact.
No one talks about these games cause no one really gives a fuck about them.
Blow is not a genius, he was just there at the right time.

As he so eloquently put it, it has no fail state, and thus, there is zero point to the game.
>>
>>738082108
aint no point to the game
>>
>>738086938
Blow never recovered from this
>>
braid was always the shittiest out of the big early indies
>>
It is kind of crazy how braid just got forgotten. I had a subscription to Gameinformer back in the day and they would do all kinds of thinkpieces on games like Braid and interview John Blow in a really pretentious way. But people just completely forgot about it. Gone Home is similar. If they remastered that how many people would buy it? Less than 300? Yet it got a 10/10 from IGN when it came out
>>
>>738086852
He exposed himself in like 2009 when he decided Braid was about a nuclear bomb of all things. Everyone laughed at him then and wrote him off.
>>
>>738082108
It had a great twist, that took waaaaay too long to get there.
>>
>>738086938
The failure state is the inability to progress. This is like saying jigsaw puzzles need failure states and is completely emblematic of niggerbrain thinking
