I found the new cast to be too "Yu Gi Oh GX" and cringe. It was the first time I felt like Ace Attorney was too "anime". The first series is clearly anime-adjacent but doesn't always feel like it's a straight up anime to me. This is the first time where everything just feels abstract and forceful.
But the stories are cool. Case 1 is great. 2 and 4 as well, but Case 3 is egregious, and Case 4 has serious plotting issues.
In a sense it's the weakest game in the series to this day. Dual Destinies and SoJ are mediocre Ace Attorney stories, but at least they're fully cohesive.

The entire franchise fell apart because this game derailed everything with its retarded time skip.

Kinda. It also liberated the series from ever running itself slowly into mediocrity. It prevented Phoenix Wright from becoming a forgotten icon, because they couldn't just keep moving the continuity one step forward with less and less emotional relevance after his arc finished with T&T.
Because of this game, they were forced to focus on characters who had yet to fulfil themselves, and in bringing Phoenix back, they were forced to deal with the tensions of having a time skip.
Unfortunately the new writers took the worst route you could possibly take, of regressing his character to the pre-timeskip persona, and doing the whole post-T&T fanfiction where his character becomes hollower as time goes on.
And then they do that consequtively to other post Phoenix Wright characters they bring back. But at least they ended on a chapter of marriage that pokes fun at the fact that Phoenix is 34 and unmarried.

There is some decent stuff, the OST is really good, the first case is really surprising for a tutorial case but it all goes downhill after that. The 2nd case is decent, the 3rd continues the tradition of 3rd case syndrome in AA games and the final one looks like its going to be one of the most epic cases ever in the beginning then by the end it all falls apart in one of the worst resolutions i've ever saw not in just a game but in any media.

They tried to pull a Street Fighter 3 New Generation but still kept Phoenix in for some reason. Of course people are going to wonder what the hell happened to Maya, Edgy and Gumshoe characters which rarely got mentioned in the game.
The spritework is beautiful, the OST is good as always and the story nosedives after the first chapter.

I get what they were going for with the jury trial, since AA to this point has been a critique of their court system, but i think it would've been better if the jury were actually present during the court case and we could see their reactions to the evidence and testimony being presented.

or decouple it from 4-4 and make a separate case inspired by 12 angry men where the player character is a member of the jury that has to debate fellow jurors to come to the correct decision

This is my favorite, but I don't think it tells the best story. Probably the first one is the best for that. It's exciting to see Phoenix go from his very first case where he doesn't really know shit to a legal force to be reckoned with. His personal life becomes fairly important without becoming a black hole everything revolves around. All the cases have pivotal story developments for the whole game rather than being just something to fill time. 3 is also a good pick, though not as tight the whole way through.

The ideas in themselves are kino, but the execution was so bad, and this is coming from someone that loved it back in the day. I replayed it not long ago and Apollo really has nothing going for him outside of shouting. Klavier's idea of being a more understanding prosecutor sounds nice, but he often is a contrarian for the hell of it, never really committing. Tired of panty jokes. Last case was so anti-climactic.
