The early access launch being delayed and firing were both measures to obstruct the payout. So the game has had several months of development time beyond when it was deemed ready for early access. None of this to say that the game will be good, but the conniving and contrived legal defense are not evidence otherwise.

Steam usually has some onboarding when a new indie studio wants to release an EA title.
