DayZ is underrated. Just with the 2 most popular winter maps, the official one is kind of lame and needs more updates still, and the community one is a brutally hard deathmatch map 90% of the time. Winter Chernarus is maximum comfy though, highly recommend if you can find a server running that.

>>738099663Depends on the server. Official servers expect hackers and lots of KOS, specially in EU and NA. Community servers it depends entirely on the server, many discourage KOS but dont completely stop you from doing it. If you find one of those that's fairly Vanilla and a decent player count you're set. There are also other tricks, like you'll be KOS if:>you're female>you're black>you have a helmet or face mask on>you're dressed in camo or military gear>you have military-tier weapons like a Mosin or SKS or something>you're geared near a spawn areaWorst case, put your fucking gun away, lean left/right or duck twice to show you're friendly and talk on voice chat first. Usually a lot of players will listen to what you have to say, some might team up, others might betray you, its all part of DayZ. Best place to team up with other people is when you're starting out fresh and you meet someone who's also just respawned. Just dont trust everyone and be careful of 'friends' using metacomms like Discord. Maps: >Chernarus for the classic experience, well balanced large map. You'll often go 1-2 hours without seeing someone. >Livonia if you have shorter playtime, constant action in the north half of the map with spooky forest adventures in the south>Sakhal (official winter map) kind of sucks compared to the others but is OK if you can get it on sale and the only other map if you play console. >Namalsk (community winter map) is 90% PVP in the spawn city in the north, but has some cool secrets and 'quests' you can do in remote POIs that are hard to get to. >Deer Isle for a large, many islands forested map that has a long, difficult 'quest' to do. >Hashima if you want urban PVP with a Japanese theme. >Avalon if you want desert rolling-hills California vibe, its the best desert/hot map at the moment until new DLC comes out later this year. It makes going up into the mountains a lot more dangerous with your clothing becoming more important in the very cold places. Fur armour is lower defence but warmer to wear so the enemies are more dangerous but if you wear metal armour then you can more easily freeze to death so you have to decide whether the enemies or the weather are more dangerous where you are going.

You had snowboards, skis, snowmobiles on a gigantic open world map with a few spawnpoints and you unlocked more fast travel points by exploring the map. It had lots of little secrets too. My main issue with most snow-related games is they tend to just throw you in a straight tunnel you press W to get down. If I wanted a racing game I'd just play a racing game, snowboarding is all about doing sick backflips off of cliffs when you come out of a tree run backcountry.

Just finished Moomintroll: Winter's Warmth. It's alright. Silly not to release it in Winter. The snow looked great in the art style and the sound effects were solid. Neat mechanic of areas in the snow you walked through previously make for quicker movement.
I really liked the game I Am Setsuna.It's a JRPG that is about a girl on a sacrificial journey and the whole thing has a very sad tone throughout and part of that is that the entire map is a snow region. It also used an almost entirely piano soundtrack. A lot of people hated it for that, especially since they were led to believe the game would be Chrono Trigger-esque (it was in the gameplay department), but I thought it was novel to see a game like that lean so hard into a specific mood.
