Going into it blind with that baggage attached, it was fucking terrifying at the time, and all the more satisfying when you start finding old journals, messages, and diaries, and start piecing together what happened. I’ll never forget the “AHA!” moment of finding the “Itchy. Tasty.” journal, and realizing a virus was what was creating all the monsters. I felt like a detective. The original RE games don’t get enough credit for popularizing the utilization of environmental storytelling to convey the plot.
