I didn't play Portia. I enjoyed Sandrock but there was a bit too much ruin diving / mining for my taste. Also, as odd as this may sound I feel like playing as anything other than default Max/Lucy was super strange due to the way the other characters interact with and address them.
>>
Unironically way too much game. It just keeps going on and on and on and

What the fuck did you mean by this?

It's fine. I liked Portia despite it's buttugly artstye. Evershine is generic, but nowhere near as ugly

The dialogue choices and the way other characters talk to yours feels like they're holding a conversation with Max, not (you)r OC. I don't know how else to explain this.

Not enough Nia posting.
>>

Pure fucking soul, I was genuinely surprised to find out it was a chinese studio.
I never got into stardew, but Sandrock just felt right and I genuinely got attached to most of the cast Except the 2 most popular romances for women funny enough
I struggled to pick a romance, but went with Nia and never looked back

I was kinda iffy on the design direction for Evershine, but once again theres been a surprising amount of soul poured into it and I am looking forward to it more with every update

It's kino, and dare I say, soulful
Portia was uncanny but Sandrock was legitimately one of the best homestead-type games I have ever played
Love my wife Mi-ann
>>
I found Sandrock comfy. I had lost a relative and wanted something chill to immerse myself in. Found it quite relaxing, sitting back and listening to Don Ross while playing. I think Evershine looks great.

There is/was a play test for kickstarter backers. I've not played in a while since I don't want to burn myself out and just follow the blogs
>>
>>738122305
Well, what were your general thoughts (besides the art style). Does the game still flow more or less similarly to Sandrock? Character relationships? Resource gathering? Combat?
>>
why didn't the devs include auto advancing dialogue in a game with almost full voice-acting is beyond me.
>>
>>738122356
When I played there was only about 2/3 hours of content and maybe 3 or 4 story relevant characters, so bear that in mind
>Companions play more of a role and actually feel helpful
>The setting is quite gorgeous
>The core mechanic seems to be town building, instead of just homesteading. This is both good and bad, as I think hand crafted environments are more soulful than player placed pre-fabs, but its nice being able to arrange the town the way you want to
>The writing feels about on par with Sandrock, and pacing wise is likely similar, so I expect it will be a slow burn story that you can enjoy at your own pace
>However because of the more serious art style, I feel like the jokes miss a bit more, I think they would struggle to have characters like Yann or Burgess for comedic relief
>Gameplay felt quite tight, combat seems to have a much bigger role so they streamlined it a fair bit
The playtest was fairly short on content so these are fairly surface level critiques. I think so long as you enjoyed sandrock, you will likely enjoy evershine
>>
>>738122658
>combat seems to have a much bigger role so they streamlined it a fair bit
How can you even streamline the already basic as fuck combat the first two games had?

where are we now and what's our character's role in the story? I really enjoyed Sandrock because you're this do-it-all guy trying to turn this doomed project of a shithole desert settlement into a success
>>
>>738122792
Maybe streamlined isn't the right wording, less of a chore. Also your companion actually helps instead of being background noise

>>738122810
Set on the duvos border, you are some military cadet who will lead a team to settle and build up a town on the border to strengthen/fortify the border. Portia was kinda ass, didn't finish it.
I thoroughly enjoyed Sandrock and was a little sad when I completed it.
It's just fun mindless checkbox-ticking gameplay and all the townsfolk are just (too) friendly and shit.
Pity the combat is also mindless mobile-tier garbage, but at least it's so easy it doesn't get bothersome.

>>738121451
Nia's hair color being completely different from her photos/2D art bothered me so much, I learned how to mod and tweaked it.
It's up on Nexus mods, but you have to jump through a whole bunch of hoops to install it which kinda sucks.

My money's on him being the leader of the local bandits. he's got the same silhouette, and these games love their traitor characters
>>
>>738123315
>all the townsfolk are just (too) friendly and shit.
We must have played a different game. Sandrock has good characters.
>>
>>738124405
Too friendly as in the game having annoying mechanics like 4-5 of them showing up in front of your house to play every morning (even more annoying when a cutscene/quest starts playing through it) and stopping whatever they are doing to yell hello at you from across the street. It basically goes from friendship to cult-like worshipping really fast.

I played Portia when it was free on EGS, and while it was rough I enjoyed it quite a bit. Probably picking up Sandrock when I next get the urge for that type of gameplay. Not a fan of deserts normally, but I'm sure I'll still have fun

Kek, underrated
>>
I played portia but quickly reached unfunny levels of grinding and resource crafting was way too slow
>>
>>738126416
Sandrock somehow fixed it. In Portia I had to run 6 or 7 smelters of various sizes, at least two of cutting/grinding tables, and it was never enough until I could build the factory. In Sandrock I had only one of every bench and two smelters, never had to worry about materials.
>>
>>738126558
Too much carbon steel was needed in Portia. I was glad they did away with it in Sandrock
>>
>>738126416
It's not that bad in Sandrock, although the game has some weird balance issues between the various tiers of materials (like you hardly need any hardwood but do need stupid amounts of bloodstone compared to other gems)
>>
>>738118024
I don't remember he name now, but I married the nurse in portia

I haven't started sandrock yet
>>
>>738126416
At some point in Sandrock you can pay for contracts to get daily deliveries of scrap/ores/gems which really takes out a lot of grind, especially for lower tier stuff.
>>
>>738118024
Played Portia and I liked it, though imo it couldn't compare with old Harvest Moon games. Little interactions, you don't feel each waifu is treated the same (content wise). Still good even when the girl I picked fucking DIES a few years in (I know they added the lights thing. But that was after I played it).
Haven't tried Sandrock yet.
>>
Can someone post the image of the comparison between the early NPCs vs the ones that were developed later chronologically? Shit's hilarious.
>>
>>738126821
Sandrock is less grindy in general. They fixed the relic hunt as well. I was never able to finish the museum in Portia because a few relic pieces would never show up in ruins or the museum trading board. Sandrock fixed it by splitting ruins into levels and locking relics to specific floors.

Sandrock is absolutely the happy medium. Portia has some awkward faces and animations, but Evershine just looks so damn generic
>>
>>738127639
Evershine still looks good to me but I feel like Sandrock struck that balance between cartoony and realistic just right.
>>
k-pop kyaaaa~ slop
>>
>>738127579
Absolutely no. And a women (females) is to blame.
>>
>>738127579
No, it will destroy the series in the long run. Go to steam and see who is defending the new style. It's almost exclusively roasties who hadn't played Portia or Sandrock and latched on to Evershine because of its new artstyle. Chinks already made it clear that they prefer the nu-fanbase over people who played their previous games.
>>
>>738127639
>>738127698
It just enters that weird uncanny valley place where the cartoony mining/building/fighting animations don't mesh well with the realistic proportions
>>
>>738127973
Guess I won't be buying Evershine, then
>>
>>738128150
I buy everything on rutracker anyway. I'll give it a try but I don't think it will be as enjoyable as Sandrock. Much of the humor and bants that carried Sandrock might be gone or just won't hit right with the new roastie romantasy artstyle.
>>
>>738128134
True, but it also becomes less memorable when you can't pick it out in a lineup because it looks like 15 other games

I pirated Sandrock and played it for a good while before purchasing. I'll do the same with Evershine if the soul's still there and won't if they're tipping too much towards the "appeal to a wider audience" part of the scale. Chinese fujos are batshit insane and I don't want to support anything that caters to that.
