The games are most enjoyable when I suck at them. Once I really get into it, it just feels like a chore.

Modded openxcom extended.

I love it, but ffs piratez mod feels like if you beat it on jack Sparrow, you could put it on a job application as a qualification.

I can beat piratez on jack sparrow ironman yet I earn minimum wage as a QA monkey in the game industry. Being good at games has almost no application in real world even in the gaming industry.

What do you mean?

>>738119951
I suck at everything
>>
>>738119951
I can’t relate. I’ve hit top 10 in multiple games across different genres. Most people just refuse to learn or admit their mistakes.
Had a friend like that, blamed everyone but himself and never changed anything. That’s why most players stay bad.

Do you suck at sucking dick?

Miku would never say that.

>>738119951
I very quickly become good at every game I play, the problem is that I peak in the top 1-2% and that's just not enough to break out into the pro scene and be a competitor anyone remembers.
It's worse than being shit actually.

...i feel really bad for saying that now dude. I apologize
>>
>>738119951
I don't care about getting good just for brownie points from others.
Sure it's a coping mechanism, but it makes my life easier and more fulfilling.
>>
I never had gamer friends growing up, but now in university I got a nice group of guys and gals who partake in the medium, and, lo and behold, I'm the best among them! Take that Hatsune Miku! I *am* good at gaming!
>>
>>738119951
"Practice makes perfect" Is not actually true.
You can never be truly good at something you don't have inmate talent in.
You can improve, obviously, but never reach a higher level.
I used to be an instructor in Jujutsu, and I could tell from day one, if someone was going to actually get anywhere. Not a single time, in all my years, have someone surprised me. Not once. The ones that did well in competitions, or reached a higher belt grade, were without a single exception, someone that showed promise on their first day.

Are you really a sorcerer?
>>
>>738127358
do you think it's more cruel to not tell someone a painful truth or tell them earlier that they don't have the potential
>>
>>738127489
I think you have to judge everyone on an individual basis. Some people are weak, and can't hear the truth. Even when they knows what it is.
That being said, if anyone ever asked me directly, I would tell them the truth.
It's can be fine to avoid telling someone, but lying aboiut their potential is always wrong.
>>
>>738119951
>he's been playing games for years
doing something for a long time doesn't mean that you actually practiced to improve
a wagie that plays an hour or two after work can clock thousands of hours in some multiplayer MMO slop and still be dogshit at it
meanwhile a 13yo on adderall that's grinding the shit out of the game while being very competitive and always trying to improve is surely going to play better

there's also the fact that unless you are in the 0.1% that earns money from gaming (e-sport professional players, don't count journos/reviewers because they don't even have to complete the game to shit out their worthless takes) video games are effectively useless, you will never get a medal or recognition for doing some retarded challenge or completing thousands of games on the hardest difficulty
also give a gamepad to some old person and see them struggle more than a little kid, you have just enough skills to adapt and learn any game to beat it, not necessarily to master it
>>
>>738127358
>You can never be truly good at something you don't have inmate talent in.
Yeah but ultimately it's relative. You can't be in the top 0.1%, so what? Do you just give up and don't try and do anything unless it's guaranteed that you are going to become the best at it? People subconsciously know this because it's immediate to see if you are so far ahead than your peers at something, so everyone is kinda aware of their potential already (unless they live in delusions).
You likely will never win an international math olympiad but you may win a math olympiad in your school/city/region/country if you try and for some people it's as gratifying and fulfilling because that in itself is a big achievement.
>>
>>738128769
I'm not saying it's pointless to do something unless you can become an elite. I am merely saying that just because you have done something for a long time, in this case, video games, that does not mean you will be any good at it.
