I think the combat is about as good (being able to swap skills is really nice), but I don't find the plot as interesting and you go through different worlds fast enough that you don't really have any attachments to them. The characters are okay, but it doesn't feel like they get enough time to breath. In the first game I think the PS2 version introduced a lot of those scenes with the spirits. I really enjoyed those, but the lack of any equivalent in this game sucks. I feel like Nozomu gets his harem too quickly too. A heroine is introduced and in pretty much no time at all they've fallen for him. Anyone else find it weird that in the first game all travel between worlds was through Eternals (and even then it was noted that higher Ranked Eternals could do it more quickly), but now most worlds are apparently aware that other worlds exist and tons of non-Eternals can travel between different worlds. I haven't finished it yet so don't tell me if there's going to be an explanation though.

Man, I haven't read any VNs in probably a decade at this point. I VASTLY prefer lonnnnng ones filled to the brim with choices, or at the very least lots of alternate routes, but it seemed like development of those types was largely ceasing around a decade ago in favor of kinetic novels. Short ones at that. While there's enjoyable shorter stuff out there, I would always use those as a palette cleanser between longer VNs. I'm sure some meatier games that take 20+++ hours have come out since then, but I haven't participated in the VN community for so long that I have fuck all clue what's come out in the past 10 years.
