ITT: Games that basically nobody remembers
Gears of War clone by TECMO-KOEIFor some reason the line mmmmm ammo stuck with me.
One of those really early 7th gen titles.Oh shit now that I think about it, remember how high quality the early PS3 bluray cases felt in comparison to the late releases?
Surprisingly decent game let down by godawful english voice acting. I was always pissed about games that didn't let you download the original VA or at the very least turn off the voices.
bump
>>738123880>hey lets outsource a bunch of games despite having a fuck ton competent internal game studiosOne of the most mind boggling aspects of that generation. Man GTAIV and Gears of War really buck broke the japs.
>>738122586Hey I remember this game
>>738122586I got it for christmas when the PS2 launched.
>>738125090Was this any good? I know the music is infamously bad but is the game actually fun?
>>738125331The gameplay is mediocre and clunky, you can tell that From was trying to get their feet wet with the idea of a 3D King's Field but couldn't fully do what they wanted to do. While the gameplay is really janky I do find it to be one of the most interesting (if a bit schizophrenic/esoteric) settings I've seen in a fantasy game. The monsters are unique, the levels and environments are in my opinion are artistically pretty if not graphically. Also the the music being bad is overblown in my opinion. Everyone points to the shop theme and yeah it's bad, there are some good songs in the OST and you can tell that Hoshino really wanted to make something unique for the game.On the whole it's a unique game and I've never played anything quite like it, and I'll always have a soft spot for it, but I can't earnestly recommend it. If you're looking for something weird and don't mind putting up with clunky controls then give it a look. Here's some of the songs from the OST that I quite like.https://youtu.be/Yc5SGUIAhtM?si=KpMbg8UEP9Q30EE_https://youtu.be/1oIvARN_7AA?si=qKp-4pZIPiAif4AFhttps://youtu.be/6iQhpuojRTA?si=xThjrlWlstnUGyD6
>>738122586I don't think I've even heard of this game. Is it good?
>>738122586DeathSpank
One of the dozen "God of War at home" games that came out during this era, 3 was still years away
>>738122723I wish it had a guide, I ain't gonna frustrate myself with finding the only good route you can take
GOATed
>>738127050Kino
>>738126610It did have Claudia Black, though. Also horrible writing. Felt like it was written by people who didn't "get" Conan, yet tried to write him as well as they could.>Would you serve a woman, then?>SERVICE her, aye, and gladly.
>>738125127I played this thinking it was in the Bloodborne world
I'm pretty sure ain't nobody played this shit but me.The most bizarre thing is that this game only came out in Japan but it has an english voices and english text option. And the Japanese voices are actually a dub, so for some reason this Japan only game was originally made fully in english first.Despite never being released in any english speaking country.
>>738125360My disappointment was immense when the gameplay was revealed.
>>738125127not only a ps4 exclusive but also VR only, I don't know what they were thinking
>>738122809I fucking hate land mines.
>>738122723It was the same with 360 cases, started out with thick tough plastic and ended with cheap thin shit with fucking cutouts on the back where the disk is. Went out of their way to make it less protective.
Got it in a bundle of $2 games at a warehouse store and promptly forgot I had it for three years.
>>738127050I played this online for a ridiculous amount of time.
>>738128176Same applies to blurays, the new cases are so cheap they arrive crushed.
>>738127529sacred is aaa tier famous compared to the other shit posted in this thread
>>738128254I always thought this game was underrated. I talked with one of the devs on the teamxbox forums back in the day.
>>738127074Hottest male main character ever, such a suave guy
>>738122938This game is excellent actually, one of the few SE RPGs I've enjoyed, but the voice acting and localization is fairly mediocre indeed.
>>738123980Specifically, they buck broke Keiji Inafune who upward into a position capable of making that call.
>>738125127I probably would've played this if it wasn't a VR game.
>>738127687I was thinking GIVE US KING'S FIELD V(R) FROMSOFT
part of the boom of 2 player splitscreen co op games
One of the many games victim of the enforced Kinect policy by Don Mattrick
>>738123980That game was doomed from the start. They outsourced to an actual semi-competent western dev but then refused to listen to any of their input regarding how the game is clearly kind of crap because Japs are just racist like that. They made a guy who had just had a kid and didn't speak English move to England for a while to head the development and that really pissed him off. He hated the game. Hated everything about it. He wanted to make a nice little family friendly game for handholds that his daughters would want to play.
They don't make them like this anymore
>>738129212This got remastered a little while ago.
>>738122586This game would have been a decent GoW knockoff with a decent aesthetic if they hadn’t turned it into a giant escort mission.
Going dark was kino Sadly the system requirements and full 6DOF movement filtered most people
>>738129552This game and Lead & Gold, both games gone way too soon, didn't even get a chance to get rolling.
>>738127657This one still have like a living modding community, no?
I replayed it recently. It's really shitty.
I remember this suppose to be like a Battelfield killer.
>>738130470>Battlefield killerThat was Joint Operations
Sometimes when I bring this up I get a reply of "Wait they made a sequel?"
Its decent
>>738130470Has any game that's been hyped as an "X killer" even come close to wounding X?
>>738131046Even in the RTS hugbox threads this one never manages more than a "oh yeah I remember that game".
>>738131962Only X has the power to defeat X, and it always does.
>>738131962I don't know if it was ever called "Quake killer", but the only thing that comes to my mind is that Unreal and Unreal Tournament did well against Quake and Quake 3 Arena respectively.
>>738131851I still don't know how much of it is action game and how much rpg, because it was somewhat advertised as action rpg with companions and dialogues choices, but it seems more like straight up action beat ’em up.
>>738132447Its Mass Effect in ancient greece
>>738122809my nigga, the camera suck but it was a ton of fun
>>738122723I never played this series but it has lived in my head rent free because of this stupid shit https://youtu.be/IZtNfYFOs-A?si=Eg-8_gKeDiyrP8CI
>>738125360>Game is called Left Alive>Plot is about being left alone in the middle of a warzone with super powered military that can jump buildings>Tutorial tell you guns are useless and how you shouldn't use them>Clearly supposed to be a stealth game>100% of the reviews cry about the shooting mechanics and how it's too hard to kill everyone on the map
I'm the only one who remembers this
>>738125331The soundtrack isn't that bad in the context of the game but people overcorrect and pretend like its some kind of misunderstood brainlet filter of a soundtrack when it is probably one of Hoshino's worst. Anyone who says the shop theme is supposed to simulate a busy bazaar when the shops in that game are a fuckin single room can shove it up their ass
The game was mediocre but somehow pulled off insane levels of atmosphere.
>>738122586>>738123980played both of thesetheyre awesomejournos couldnt be bothered to learn to play either
>>738129212>They don't make them like this anymoreyupand its a shamei like me some ridiculous over the top action games with weird stories
There was a time when suddenly everyone was talking about this game and now I don't think I've seen any discourse about it since the last episode. Granted it's such the nature of so these kind of games. Not much to talk about once the end roll around.
One of my favorite games on the PS2
>>738127050great game
>>738135169>Flavour of the month is forgotten when the month ends.Shocker.
>>738122586My go to game for this was always Glover, but then I saw an anon mention it one day and I decided I needed a new one.My new one is Urban Chaos.
A fun (robot) animal based puzzle platformer. Brought to you by the people responsible for GTA.
>>738135283This one got a remake. Definitely it's not forgotten.
>>738135562The sequel on PS2 is good too
>>738122586>>738122635>>738123880I've been trying to find English PS3 copies for years.>>738125360Utter shit.
>>738135562>>738135794i played the first one but it was too hardi kept getting my ass kicked by monsters and then it was like "lol do the entire dungeon from the start again"
>>738127050This game’s fun, it also has a real interesting bug with character creation that lets you get absurd stats early.
>>738136354i liked it too, but it's not a general audience gameit's a weird game for weirdos, like me
>>738129212Q Hayashida worked on that one
>>738136736yeah, most people just want something familiar and undemandingif something doesn't follow the template they decide immediately it's wrong and is not worth playingwhich is fine, they just want to get through their day on autopilot but we're probably bored of that and seek something different
>>738132938Still don't know whether these are the exact same game or not.
the ultimate "how the hell do you manage to screw something like THIS up THAT hard?!" game
>>738122723Snake?
>>738124169
>>738137131I put it on my wishlist when it was announced and keep seeing it go on deep discounts (currently 80% off) but I just can't bother.
>>738122635Gears of War clone by Namco.Movement has a certain amount of stiffness to it but its not bad the gravity shifting thing is cool.
>>738122723I like how blatantly they plagiarized Splinter Cell, the controls are 90% identical to Double Agent
>>738137748Seriously, remove it.It's like a bootleg version of EDF with even worse graphics, horrendous gameplay and terrible controls and UI.Even the big selling point, the mech building is cumbersome garbage that you can't even control with a mouse so have fun moving, stretching and rotating all those parts with either a keyboard or a controller.Hell, you can't even build any mechs beyond medium size until you finished the fucking game because you only get larger parts in higher difficulty levels that are locked during your first playthrough.
>>738133947I got NightCaster and Azurik both on the same day in the same bargain bin at Gamestop.NightCaster was in my xbox and I was playing it when a lightning bolt hit my house and the xbox caught fire.
>>738138670Meant to play this and just totally forgot but the original Splatterhouse is one of my favorite arcade games ever.
>>738127074Doesn't seem forgotten, the prices niggas ask for it now are retarded.
>>738138871Its pretty damn good. A shame Namco Bandai botched it launched entirely and left it to rot.
>>738138837>WHY, ANON? WHYYYYY DID YOU MAKE ME RUN NIGHTCASTER?
>>738138187I have to replay that one again because there's a raw input mod now, playing with negative mouse acceleration was fucking painful.
>>738138949Sounds like what happened with Bionic Commando. Shame.
Still one of the best TBS ever made
There's a lot of Vita exclusives that nobody has ever played. Drive Girls is one of them.I have played it, it's very bad.
It's an early iphone game that I remember playing and really enjoying. For years I could not find a way to replay it. Now I am aware of a method but I need an old device to play it. Also enjoy the Inotia games.
One of the first mmo games I ever played. There's still a version of it you can play today but it's under a new name, Yugen Saga.I have decent memories of getting hit on because my avatar was female. I was initially male but found a strong weapon that looked feminine so I remade my character to match it.
>>738138949>A shame Namco Bandai botched itthey botched nothing, in this case. Bottlerocket were the ones that fucked up.
>>738123880>whole gimmick of the game was memory manipulation>you only do it 4 times in the entire game, one of those is the one they demo'd and one of them is a repeat of an earlier one
>>738138187Nah I've seen this game discussed on /v/ many a time.>bad guy's plan is literally just to get human men to marry and impregnate robot women>I'm supposed to think this is a bad thing
>>738139650if only vee remembers a game then its basically nobody
>>738139471They moved development away from Bottlerocket and did it internally, then got rid of the internal dev team after they rushed the game out and never advertised it.They let it die.
>>738138871Blood, hard rock, and titties. It's a good time.
>>738122586Loved this game
>>738122586
>>738140008I never finished this one because I wasn't really jiving with the combat and exploration, I do remember liking how it looked though
I actually only ever played the demo. I believe it was short as fuck, and i was bummed because i wouldn't have payed more than 2 euros for that game. But the game was like full price for 2 months, and then disappeared forever.
>>738125331Don't listen to>>738125360>>738125360https://youtu.be/WGJbuHUbw8k?si=pqcZwzNtT-_w0MfLIs a certified banger. The got filtered by the intro and the bridge but the chorus is one of the catchiest earworms.
>>738140008>>738140371i remember getting filtered when you get locked up on a pirate ship or something on the ps3 versionthat felt like a big difficulty spike out of nowhere and I was suddenly getting oneshot
All 3 of them
>>738140464I played the whole thing and all I remember was giving some guy in a junk-town diarrhea.
>>738125331The music is fucking amazing. You need to listen to it again without shit taste.
>>738123980Certified kusoge. I was reduced to a head and got stunlocked because I was Neverdead™
>>738140592For me it was the rotating mazepuzzle area.
>>738141037I think this may have been where I stopped as well
imagine playing as a black female cop
>>738139872>They moved development away from Bottlerocketbecause they weren't even making the game like they were supposed to, and doing some totally different shit with it the few times they were. Even Bamco was telling them to keep it closer to what Splatterhouse is.>then got rid of the internal dev team after they rushed the game outthat team was only made to try to salvage the thing in the first place, it was never meant for anything else and all that wouldn't have even needed to happen had Bottlerocket done their job.>never advertised itIt was in a ton of magazines with even Fangoria covering it and Playboy having a bit with it, which is why the collectible pinups of Jennifer exist. Again I have no reverence for Bamco nowadays but they did at least try with this game, since it was just before the Bandai side completely took over.
>>738141006I gotta get around to playing this.
>was vaguely remembered so often it was a meme>Now all those anons have aged out>Only I remain
>>738139065I have very mixed feelings about Bullet Witch. It's way too short for what it cost back then and it really could've done more with pretty much every aspect of the game and added some multiplayer modes to boot, but the game itself is pure Japjank kino and it has a lot of soul missing from most modern video games. I just wish its potential was more well realized to maek it an all time classic from Cavia like Nier Replicant and Gestalt were.>>738123980A lot of Jap devs really over-corrected during the 7th gen and tried to make their games TOO Western rather than mildly sprinkling in Western sensibilities into the gameplay and or aesthetics of the game. It seems like the smart devs just kept doing things their way or only slightly changed things to make better use of the technology on the Ps360 systems. No one really likes 7th gen Western games for the most part, just certain aspects of them but everyone that loves Japanese games loves them for being Japanese.>>738135169Because it's just your average shitty capeshit television series wrapped up in a Telltale video game. There's nothing to discuss once it's over and really nothing to like about it afterwards (or beforehand if you aren't retarded).

>>738142982>prequel has the subtitle "origins"
>>738142982Were you finally the protagonist or was that another fake out?Fool me once shame on marketing fooled me twice so I might just be retarded
>>738139036Only people that weren't born at that time don't remember how big Warlords was.
>>738144067I think so, I barely remember anything about Origins. That was always funny in the PS3 games though with your character just awkwardly in the background being ignored in every cutscene
>>738144067In this you play a team of mercenary soldiers from the past during the war in which the White Knight was first created. But also the sequel to WKC had a online story mode that took place after the game and involved your character building your own Knight and finally being the main hero. Unfortunately it's all lost media at this point.
this was made by id
This was supposed to be a mega franchise but failed out the gate. It’s basically Mass Effect before Mass Effect. There was another game that sometimes gets mentioned in these threads where your magic companion girl can turn into a giantess and flatten enemies with her ass. I think it was a GoW clone.
>>738129212We literally just got Romeo must Die this year, Both were directed by Suda and as absurd ps3 jank soul
>>738135290My man, the first Maximo is much better than the sequel graphically and gameplay.
>>738139065>>738142139Bullet Witch is really bad imo, Shanoa like mc doesn't fix the game at all
>>738122586The fastest feeling racing game by far, maybe even the fastest feeling game in general, which I guess makes sense because no game has you go supersonic inside a fucking pipe
>>738147930It's not good but the 360 version is worse than the PC version solely because it was priced at $59.99 and the PC version goes for at most $15 and has frequent sales that take it down to less than $7. That alone makes the PC game better than the 360 version. The game isn't good enough and doesn't have enough content to warrant a $60 pricetag.
>>738144067WKC2 had a DLC co-op storyline where the player is the protagonist, but it was never released outside of Japan because of the shitty NA publisher.
>>738148220I still play this regularly, there's nothing else quite like it.I wish i'd gotten to play the arcade version back in the day.
>>738144146I wasn't. I played it way later. But my point was that I never heard anyone talk about it

>>738140684nah girl used to play this with my Dad, have it on Steam as well. CLASSIC
tried playing this last yearhard crash within minutes
I think if this game had story, it would be somewhat remembered
>>738151321Strife is far from niche. It's just not as well known as Doom or Duke Nukem 3D. It's also pretty fun, though some of the maps are too maze-like for my taste
>>738140747Spartan Total Warrior was better
>>738129212Daily reminder that this game was a product of EA's greed. Suda originally wanted to make a serious game that was a mix of RPG, survival horror, and slice of life villager simulator where the protagonist gradually went from a poor, uneducated, and dirty nobody amnesiac to rich, intelligent, and elegant noble, etc, etc but EA kept forcing him to gradually change all elements of gameplay, story, and aesthetic untill the game become a basic thrid person shooter aimed to appeal to the broadest american demographic possible. The entire plot and the protagonist's personality were rewritten like 20 different times.
>>738152678It's not the only game that got fucked by EA during that gen, Overstrike/Fuse is another example of EA totally doing retarded shit.
>>738151479I still listen to this game's soundtrack on and off.The music is excellent but the game itself is nothing extra.
>>738152235I will never forget this, I would do unspeakable things to get a sequel
>>738152678[X] DoubtSuda has never made a good game, EA or not. Aesthetically sure, but not the whole package.
The DS is full of random ass JRPGs that no one remember except me.
>>738135290This is basically a 3D Ghost n' Goblins right?
God of War clone. Not as good as either God of War or Dante's Inferno, but damnit if it isn't the kind of low-budget stupid I love.
>>738153538Pretty much, yeah.
>>738153652Still one of the few games I can recall where mic users were prioritized for communication-related positions between the Squad/Platoon/OiC roles. Crashes aside in the v2.0-era of the game, I played the fuck out of MAG. Fuck SVER.

>>738135290I remember on the TV channel G4 they used to always replay the same episode of some show that would show off a secret for this game and its kind of burned into my mind as a result. I never played it and I can remember his stupid boxers. The game looked cool though, maybe it was good.
I remember this game being hyped to hell and back in the magazines of the daydidn't even know there was a third game until just now
amazing game
Was this game known? It's one of my favorites. I would spend hours just fucking around in the sandbox room.Excellent game. And they had cheats that let you swap your character model but it actually carries stats too so you can play as the bosses and do shit your character can't normally do.
>>738127687On top of that only playable with a PSVR1 because Sony is retarded and didn't make the PSVR2 backwards compatible.
one of the first games I got for the PS2pretty sure I only got it because the main guy had the same haircut as Paul from Tekken
>>738154181Has anyone ever told you you're a faggot?
Does Oni count? I feel like the popularity of Bungie/Halo adds a kind of bias buff. Everyone knows Halo, but how many know of Oni or Marathon.>>738155081I liked that and the second one.And I remember they had an achievement for playing (not even winning) a round of multiplayer, that nearly nobody had because the rounds were like 30 minutes long, 2 v 2, and if anyone quit the entire match was invalidated. So of course the losing team always quit.
>>738155081First game was a fucking solid Gears bro-op clone, and was the first real Gears clone option that PS3 users could play. >>738155334I only know of Oni and Akimbo because Guru Larry/Fat Cunt did the box art

>>738129212All I remember about this game was how fucking brown/green it was. Did the remaster ever add some more colour moods to it?
>>738155081Both were fun. The 2nd one was way better. My best friend and I played these over and over at his house late at night on a CRT with Mountain Dew and ramen noodles after exploring the woods all day. Good times. Good games.
no idea why only the second one is on steam>>738155525oh damn I had that on PCshit refused to install properly because my dad's computer was too new
>>738155525Made me think of this. I remember it being fun and a good game but also I think I was 8 so my judgment might be skewed.
>>738155421Man I have had second sight on my backlog since it came out but never got around to it.I played the fuck out of Time Splitters.
>>738155947It plays nothing like Time Splitters other than you can recognize their character modeling style. Better story than I was expecting though. Solid game.
am I the only one that played this?
>>738139074I used to frequent vitagen and when I'd see shit like this or that fishing loli game with the band-aid on her knee even I could admit we were scraping the bottom of the barrel.
>>738155868A lot of the PS1 Disney games were surprisingly adequate that gen despite various developers thrown at the IPs.
>>738141006I pre-ordered this game and then cancelled it once reviews came out and called it a turd.I remember being excited because the composer was Bear McCreary, the guy who did the music for BSG which was still relevant and big at the time.
>>738156113This is so generic I'm having a hard time believing its real.Like when they made Atari games and just called them like "RACECAR" or "CARNIVAL", the fuck is "VIKING".
I still have the large box and disc around here somewhere. All I remember is being disappointed that it was more of a puzzle game rather than strategy.
I had this and only remember dragging the chalk around. Think my aunt got it for me.
>>738156113I don't even remember having this on Steam. Must have gotten from some bundle decades ago.
>>738155334I remember for years my local game store had a whole shelf of brand new copies of just this game for for only 50p and they never seemed to sell any
Eurojank FPS horror game that reminded me of Penumbra: Overture. My crappy family computer could barely run it but I remember being impressed by the frosty ice graphics on everything
>>738122635There was this shitty ninja gaiden clone on the 360 that had a boss that was literally just a giant zombified baby, i wish i could remember its name.
>>738156138The fishing game was nowhere near as bad as Drive Girls.
>>738151321Still my favorite Doom engine gameI replay it about once a year
>>738155868Same. I remember really liking it, but at the time I had 4 games so not like I had a lot of "perspective". I have been thinking it would be fun to pick it up on an emulator or something and learn to speedrun it for shits n gigs.
>>738138670I only remember this game because its trailer features a lot of things that didn't make it into the full game. Notably, a wicker man boss, a nazi island stage, combat moves for rick (like a fucking piledriver and a flying kick) and about 5 different enemy types that aren't just reskins of existing enemies. The most interesting part is that NONE of this is dummied out content, people have bisected the game and found nothing, meaning the devs completely scrapped the game and started over.
expecation: hidden gem no one knowsreality: 4.5-6.5/10 that was forgotten for a good reason

>>738158378A particular room / frame from that game is cemented in my memory. It wasn't even anything special I just took a moment to appreciate the scene and thought it looked really cool despite just being yet another room in the game. Really cool look and graphics combined with good setting of the environments. At parts I felt uncomfortable which is probably intended in cold claustrophobic survival situation. A bad situation.
>>738153652Did this have system link play?
>>738140557This game looked dope af.Shame it was cancelled.
I remember pirating this and feeling like I wanted a refund afterwards.
>>738155082I somehow ended up with the jap, euro and us versions of this.
>>738164837Wet, Velvet Assassin, and The Saboteur are all interchangeable in my mind
>>738123880I got it from some humble bundle and giggle every time I see it, still haven't played it.>>738127887Chasm has some dedicated fans like that hrots dev and the dusk/ iron lung dev.
>>738141006The demake was so much better
>>738145908I liked both of these a lot and they were total flops.
You'd think a game where you play as a murderous edgy teddy bear would be memorable but the game is basically a worse version of sneak king.
>>738148220I played it, good soundtrack, shit gameplay
>>738158378It's a piece of shit famous for running like shit on past and future computers both
>>738127465I've seen a few streamers play it
>>738165690Yeah the concept falls apart fast as you play more. Sure it's funny and shocking to kill teddy bears but it gets boring and old fast
>>738125331The OST is infamously divisive. Some people love it and others think it sounds awful. Personally, I think it's alright. Definitely memorable if nothing else. Never played it, but always had interest in doing so (because I thought the title and cover were cool). But this was back during the days of FROM games largely being considered kusoge in the West.
this one was advertised before south park or something for a few weeks in 2009-10never seen anything about it since
>>738165690This was a nice concept but the controls/gameplay was ass.
>>738128728Got it for my 7th birthday. Never managed to get very far.
got Kessen and SSX with my PS2 at launchI really liked SSXI did not enjoy Kessen
>>738122586Yogi Bear: Great Balloon Blast
>>738155334>got a bootleg copy of the PC port from Iran>came with a no-CD crack, which was like the wildest shit ever back then>had some friends in elementary school who wanted to play it as well>gave one of them my CD along with custom made installation instructions on a sheet of paper i folded up like 10 times that had onomatopoeia on some of the folds (like BAM, or PUNCH or something)>mfw they made fun of me for itAssholes.
>>738166324I remember seeing this image all over the place back during PS2 launch days. Game looked hella uninteresting to me as a kid.
>>738166324I don't even understand why I like Kessen, I just know that I do.>>738166512damn
Everyone should play at least the demo of Two Worlds at least once. It's so ass in the best way.
>>738138885I got a copy for 30 bucks, I didnt think that was too bad
>>738128728>rented this game>first level scared me so bad i was crying and couldnt play it
>>738166761Lmao I also remember being frightened by it. There's a level in particular with like a headless Frankenstein or something that would chase you around if you got close enough, and I was fucking terrified of trying to go anywhere NEAR it.
>>738128613NeverDead had nothing to do with Capcom, tho.
I bought this game on release and played it for only 4.2 hours straight and never touched it again, I can't even remember if it was a good game or not because nobody ever talks about it
>>738156317Which Splinter Cell is that? I don't recognize the UI
>>738168132video games
There's a lot of games that are brought up when people talk about "Old DND games" but never this one
This game was just a rental, it scratched this itch I can't remember having, but it was too hard to beat, think I got to the 2nd to last level.
