Get cheap Chinese IEMs, I spent $20 on mine. 3 years (and counting) of daily use, and they sound great, even more if you use EQ. The only maintenance you have to do is replace the filters once they get clogged, or you can just put some cotton on the place of the filters like I do.

My last paid lasted 12 years, my current pair had a design flaw that made them die in 4 years, but I've fixed it myself.Earpads are a matter of preference, I use mine until they wear out totally, which is about the 5-7 year mark.

The longest a pair lasted me was 5 years for an AKG 371 but I had to replace the ear muffs once and the cable twice, what killed it for good which I could fix was the plastic band that goes over your head snapped.

Well, the pads are slightly worn (but it comes with two sets), but the plastic is like new, the cable is still nice and soft, and they sound great for their price. Also, if the cable should break, it's easy to replace, given that the cable is connected to the headphones with a jack, so you don't have to crack them open and start soldering. You might need a DAC though. I use a FiiO E10K.
Best 300$ I ever paid in my life. This alongside a 40$ DAC and you can pretty much hear everything is as high quality audio as you can without having to spend thousands. I can literally hear every individual instrument and pinpoint exactly where it's coming from. Such a good headphone.

I've been using my $50 X2HR for almost 4 years now – they're still fine. Yeah, velour does attract a lot of lint, but a cheap sticky roller with multiple sheets keeps the earpads clean (though, they would never look as clean as new).Don't see a reason to replace them.

I've never had a pair of headphones actually fail due to the speakers, it's always either the pads (which can be replaced with velour ones) or the cable/jack getting damaged.

Without an eq they're a little flat on the low end, but with an eq they're absolutely incredible headphones.On Windows you can use EqualizerAPO to setup an EQ once and it'll auto-load from then on out upon login, and on Linux you can do the same with EasyEffects. If you need help finding a good starter EQ for your headphones, go to "autoeq.app" and look up your model. You can download a preset for whichever EQ program you use and plop it in. Whole process takes maybe 10-15m altogether and then you never have to touch it again and have better sound. Enjoy, peeps.

The padding is morse dense than the originals, so less sound gets in from the "sides", but also it absorbs/reflects more inside depending on the frequency and volume. I'm not a hardcore audiophile, so I'm sure I'm not describing that accurately. Yeah, regional pricing+being on sale was an insane deal. Looks like they're still going for $150-200 in the US. Worth every penny, imo though.
