How long do sub 100$ headphones last?
t. clueless speaker fag
>>
depends on build quality. usually the band or the adjustment thingies are first to break rather than the speaker itself.
>>
about 1 week per dollar
>>
>>738125076
Usually humidity kills them before anything else if you're careful with how you handle them
Keep them in their bag and put the little package(no clue how's called) that absorb humidity between the headphones cup
Don't wear them right after you wash your hair, or when exercising/sweating
Clean the pad and the insides at least once a week
they should last you a few years
>>
Get cheap Chinese IEMs, I spent $20 on mine. 3 years (and counting) of daily use, and they sound great, even more if you use EQ. The only maintenance you have to do is replace the filters once they get clogged, or you can just put some cotton on the place of the filters like I do.
>>
>>738125660
this anon is right,
my sennheisers were straight up malfunctioning in my old apartment that was super humid, I moved recently and now they function normally
>>
>>738125680
IEMs are uncomfy for long sessions and the earwax cleaning every time gets annoying.
>>
My last paid lasted 12 years, my current pair had a design flaw that made them die in 4 years, but I've fixed it myself.

Earpads are a matter of preference, I use mine until they wear out totally, which is about the 5-7 year mark.
>>
>>738125076
Depends on the quality which will vary. Usually the ear muffs on mine peel first or the cable breaks. The longest a pair lasted me was 5 years for an AKG 371 but I had to replace the ear muffs once and the cable twice, what killed it for good which I could fix was the plastic band that goes over your head snapped.
>>
>>738125076
my dt 880s become uncomfortable after a while. Having huge ears fucking sucks. And the $30 replacements are still small for my huge ears.
>>
>>738125076
I've owned a bunch of different headphones, including Sennheisers, Beyerdynamics and Koss Porta Pros (I've gone through 7 or 8 of those over the past 20 years), and they all just crack, break apart, or in most cases, the cable comes loose, becomes stiff, or it just stops working.
However, back in 2021, I bought a pair of AKG K240 MK2, and to this day, they're like new. Well, the pads are slightly worn (but it comes with two sets), but the plastic is like new, the cable is still nice and soft, and they sound great for their price. Also, if the cable should break, it's easy to replace, given that the cable is connected to the headphones with a jack, so you don't have to crack them open and start soldering. You might need a DAC though. I use a FiiO E10K.

Best 300$ I ever paid in my life. This alongside a 40$ DAC and you can pretty much hear everything is as high quality audio as you can without having to spend thousands. I can literally hear every individual instrument and pinpoint exactly where it's coming from. Such a good headphone.
>>
>>738125076
Just get Audio-Technica M50X for $150 and use them literally forever. Can easily replace the earpads and cable when needed, and use tennis grip tape on the headband when that starts flaking.

ive had my hd650 for over 10 years now, best 350 euro ive ever spent
i can wear them all day long to the point I forget Im wearing them (which has caused me to drop them a lot of times when leaving the room)
>>
>>738125076
Literally forever as long as you don't do something stupid like accidentally sit on them which instantly breaks the chinesium frame.
>>
>>738125076
A few years as long as you get ones that have replaceable wires. Do not get headphones without replaceable wires. Wait, do people even get headphones with wires any more? Anyway, I have a 15 year old pair of Sennheisers that still work fine.

I had some HD558s or HD598s (I think), and while the sound was good, the build quality was awful. The plastic where the headband connected to the phones literally cracked apart after a few years, and I ended up duct taping them together for years, until I eventually got fed up and just smashed them into the ground. That was probably 10 years ago.

I actually managed to find them.

They're pretty fragile if you use them daily. I've been through 2 xm4 and 1 xm5 over the past 5-6 years. I don't regret getting them since the ANC really help. I would recommend getting a warranty for these if you're planning to buy.

I've been using my $50 X2HR for almost 4 years now – they're still fine. Yeah, velour does attract a lot of lint, but a cheap sticky roller with multiple sheets keeps the earpads clean (though, they would never look as clean as new).
Don't see a reason to replace them.

This actually works like a charm. Though just avoid plastic headphones if you have the money for it in the first place.
>>
>>738125076
Don't get cheap headphones if you plan on wearing them everyday for years. It's okay to spluge on your primary hobby.
>>
>>738129672
>They're pretty fragile if you use them daily.
That really depends on the headphones. Some just crack and fall apart, like the Sennheisers I posted above, while the most common problem is the cable getting stiff or breaking apart where it connects to the headphones. The latter is usually an easy fix if you know how to solder and get a replacement cable, though still a frustrating problem that doesn't need to happen.
Like I mentioned further up, I have some AKGs that are like new, even after 5 years, and the only problem is the pads getting slightly cracked. That's just an aesthetic thing though, and they're still comfortable. And like I said, it came with two pairs in two different materials.
I bought a replacement cable back in 2021 for my Beyerdynamics, which sound better than the AKGs, but I just haven't bothered fixing them.
>>
>>738125076
Nothing's made to last these days. The beyershitnamics i boughted were made of plastic in the most fragile spots and didnt take long for me to have to hot glue the things up
If you can somehow manage to find 10-15 year old unopened pairs of headphones buy those instead
>>
>>738129906
I think it was an issue with the specific model that I bought. From what I understand, other Sennheisers, and particularly newer ones, don't have that problem.
Your fix wouldn't work though. They didn't snap. The plastic was just really brittle, and cracked over a very large area.
I might try rebuilding them one day, assuming they still work, and just make my own custom parts.
>>
>>738125076
I've been rocking the cheapest ones from Amazon for about three years.
>>
>>738125076
you'll get a lot a varying opinions since no headset can last on a fat headed, greasy haired, slob with caustic sweat
>>
>>738129672
I wish the XM4 had better ANC mics and usb-c audio, they break way too easily if you don't stuff the earpad with silica packets
At least they are "easy" enough to replace by yourself, but then if the mic inside the earcup breaks it's ogre
>>
>>738130168
fat slobs with greasy hair don't deserve headphones?
>>
>>738125076
I bought the Sony 3D headphones at the same time I got a PSVR2, probably around three or four years ago, and they’re still working great. I use them for stuff like video editing too, and usually leave them hanging on my mic stand.

>>
>>738125680
I got IEMs once. Putting the tips on was a pain in the ass (REALLY tight fit) and they wouldn't stay in my ears. Returned them shortly after.

I've never had a pair of headphones actually fail due to the speakers, it's always either the pads (which can be replaced with velour ones) or the cable/jack getting damaged.
>>
>>738125076
On average, I'd say a good pair of headphones will last you 20-40 years. I've had my $150 Sennheiser HD6XX for 10 years. In that time I've had to replace the cable twice, earcups once, and I'm about to replace the headband foam as well as it has no give and my bald-headed ass gives no cushion. Cans still perform perfectly without issues. They've taken many 4ft drops to the floor. I expect them to last me another decade or so. Don't abuse headphones and they'll last a looong time. It's why I have no clue why people buy that $20-$40 shit that breaks every 2-5 years. You can get really good headphones at $200, $150, and even $100 that will last you decades and have great sound.

I highly recommend the HD6XX's. You can nab them for $100-$150 now. Without an eq they're a little flat on the low end, but with an eq they're absolutely incredible headphones.

On Windows you can use EqualizerAPO to setup an EQ once and it'll auto-load from then on out upon login, and on Linux you can do the same with EasyEffects. If you need help finding a good starter EQ for your headphones, go to "autoeq.app" and look up your model. You can download a preset for whichever EQ program you use and plop it in. Whole process takes maybe 10-15m altogether and then you never have to touch it again and have better sound. Enjoy, peeps.
>>
how do you anons feel about your $20 hair dryer having a 100x more durable wire than your $150 headpoones?
>>
>>738129757
Great pair, I recently replaced the pads on mine with some cheap chinese replacements because the original pair started to tear. The new pads did change the sound stage, but it's not a big deal cinsidering official pads would've been $40. Where'd you get yours for $50? I paid like $200 for mine at the time, but that was years ago.

>On average, I'd say a good pair of headphones will last you 20-40 years
The only way you can get a pair of headphones to last that long would be if you only use them like 1 hour every other day and only when you are 100% clean fresh out of the shower and you're INSANELY careful with them.

If you're using a pair of headphones every day and you're using them to game on your PC, the lifespan of a pair of headphones is probably more like 10 years and that's if you already take decent care of them.
>>
>>738130741
Nothing wrong or jewish about wired headphones. If anything they're less likely to break than wireless and they're more likely easily repairable if/when they break since there's less batteries, electronics and complexity involved. Yes the wires can break but in any good headphone they're easily replaced (either there's a connector or it's some very basic disassembly/reassembly and soldering you need to do) and no you don't need to buy original manufacturer cables if you don't want to.

Joybuy used to sell things to my shithole of country through the local online marketplaces. It had a nice discount on top of that, good times.

No, the goyim are the ones that buy wireless crap with """noise cancelling""" that can't be turned off and has a constant hiss.
>>
>>738130626
Do you use your hair dryer several hours every day over the course of several years?
You're half-correct though. I have headphones where the cable just lasts forever, so there's no reason that expensive headphones should ever have cables that aren't durable, given that everlasting cables actually exist.

I have a pair of those, but the irony is that the cable is the highest quality cable I've ever had on a set of headphones, so it doesn't need replacement to begin with.

I really need a new pair but the only ones I've actually tested out are SPH9500's at my friends house and I'm afraid of the open leaking sound to my microphone considering I do a lot of casting and streaming

Those things have terrible cables and break all the time. I've had 7 or 8 pairs of those over the years.
Thankfully, they have a weird kind of lifetime warranty, and whenever they break, you can hand them in and get them repaired or get a replacement set for $5, if you have a local dealer. Or at least you could in the 2000s and the early 2010s, which was when I used to use them.
That said, I usually just repaired them myself, until I stopped using them. I have a huge pile of parts lying around.

$300 max, I'd say. Most of my headsets have been between $80 and $150.
If you plan to use them with a PC, I'd say buying a $100 DAC is a far better investment.

These are the replavement pads I got. The padding is morse dense than the originals, so less sound gets in from the "sides", but also it absorbs/reflects more inside depending on the frequency and volume. I'm not a hardcore audiophile, so I'm sure I'm not describing that accurately. Yeah, regional pricing+being on sale was an insane deal. Looks like they're still going for $150-200 in the US. Worth every penny, imo though.
>>
>>738131271
Headphones in public, even break rooms, is extremely anti-social and basically signlaing "leave me the fuck alone". I listen to my am/fm radio in the break room no headphones specifically so people will feel more comfortable chatting with me if they show up, and sometimes they even ask if I can put on a specific station they like. Normalfags literally do the exact same thing but sub consciously and never really thinking about why they chose to do it that way cuz it comes naturally to them.. To suggest they try headphones would be social suicide, but something tells me you do not care and wear headphones alone in the corner yourself.
