>ruins the experience
>>738131892every game should include a midwit filter like this, it's funny to enjoy an immaculate game while the next tard says they optimized their fun away
>>738131892what is this bayblade looking shit
>>738132102It’s 343shit that they added in the Halo CE remake
>>738132102The hovercraft from TOTK.
>>738131892>game about engineering>best solution is the simplest one yet againmany such cases. people that bitch about it are the same people that thinks the earth isn't round or other tinfoil hat garbage with a wall of text for an explanation instead of a simple, practical one.
>>738132026The Depths being literally nothing outside of the obvious points of interest you can see from miles away justifies the hover-bike.
>>738132508>>game about engineering>>best solution is the simplest one yet againholy SOVL
>>738131892It really needs to be studied how letting you freely fly over the map makes the map so much less interesting. Environments don't make an impression on your senses at all unless you actually traverse them. Almost the same problem as being able to climb up any surface, instead of taking a winding path around a mountain and seeing the sights you perform a one-note minigame to go straight to the top. Of course you can choose to do things the fun way, but our brains naturally look for shortcuts.I like these games, but the design philosophy behind them can still be refined a lot more.
>>738131892maybe they shouldnt have put a timer on the fucking wings then
>>738132607>t. never played pilotwings
>spend 1hr bulding a contraption that might not work at all>the build controls aren't even fun or good, just finicky>or spend like actually 30 seconds building a better, more useful, more efficient machineHm, hard choice. The building was my least favorite aspect of the game and I would absolutely remove it wholesale if it meant the game was better in other aspects.
>>738131892It's not the thing that's the problem, the real problem is when someone else is mad about why you don't want to use it or just spoiling you because you wanted to craft it by yourself without guide
Its disappointing because you know the devs didn't intend for this to work. Otherwise they wouldn't have made such strict durability limits on the wing. There is just nothing more impactful you can construct in the game compared to this bike. Everything else is underwhelming and fragile for the time investment. The bike is flawless, low battery burn, indestructible, low investment and made with early game components.
This thing isn't as broken as /v/ likes to pretend, it sucks power like crazy so you need to have a decent amount of charges for it to be more efficient than balloons and wings, meaning that either you grind zonaite like a bitch or wait until you have enough from natural exploration.
>>738132026>optimized their fun awaythe alternative builds aren't that fun either, just slower and more expensive
>>738132513>>738133446>>738133649You people seriously lack a sense of whimsy in your lives. Sure building an actual vehicle or created a shabby catapult can fail, but to a normal person that's part of the fun. You are the actual definition of gamers optimizing the fun out of games.
the real problem is the game itselfif there were flying enemies, flying would not be the First traversal option for most people. nintendo should have foreseen this
>>738131892Ok, cool? You can also make whatever you want to get around. If everyone was cut off from everyone else, you would have made this eventually.
I could never get the angle right and it kept drifting
>>738132102Flying motorbike you can't craft in the latest zelda.Game give you fuckton of component and let you assemble them however you want.Turn out slapping two propeller directly on the control lever is optimal by far.
>>738132607Morrowind didnt have this problem
>>738131892You control the buttons you press. Simply don't use it if you think it ruins the experience.
>>738132102Hoverbike from TotK.The gameplay of the game is almost entirely centered on traversal and on solving traversal puzzles by engineering gadgets out of pieces of the environment which you can glue together into various machines and tools that interact with the environment and its physics in novel and varied ways.Or, you can just skip all of that and fly through the game on a hoverbike, completing the whole experience in a few hours without doing much of anything except mandatory bossfights.
Should have an amiibo
nintendo fans are insane
>>738133828>bro just slowly traverse this giant empty procedurally generated caven. it's fun, I swearWhy don't I just play No Man's Sky instead?
>>738133946I dont think I would have discovered itI would've slapped the fans on, ate shit every time, and not realize there is a perfect angle for them that achieves balance, speed, and altitude all in tandem
Flying Materials having a built in timer was immensely stupid. All these parts and I just flew around on a metal grate with 4 fans attached to it.Thanks, Nintendo.
>>738134125Don't you know? Spending twice the amount of ore to auto craft a catapult that you'll lose when you use it in order to go a shorter distance is what real fun is.
Then there's the Weapon parts, which you can both barely aim and they do barely any damage. That's fun and rewarding.
For me? It's a metal cage with a shock emitter attached to it.
>>738133828theres nothing to have fucking whimsy with, I already explored every inch of the overworld on foot in the first fucking game and the depths are just sheer dogshit. totk is only a great game if you didn't play botw
What's next in the medieval fantasy Zelda franchise? An AR?
>>738133896Flying enemies (and more midair combat generally) were one of the things I thought it needed most. There's a reason Colgera is the only boss fight anyone remembers despite being piss easy, well a second reason besides the song.
>>738135021
>>738133828I'm not "optimizing the fun out" of the game, the system it's asking me to use isn't fun in the first place. I don't want to build, I don't like the crafting system, being forced to do dumb shit with the battery systems isn't fun either. Your creations getting destroyed after X amount of time (eg: the wings) is also gay.The only real fun of the crafting is the puzzle rooms/shrines. But they don't even really ask you to do much with the system either. Use this one thing to do the only thing the room is asking you to do to finish it. Wow, so fun and epic and creative! It's not hard at all to solve the shrines, you don't even really need to think about it since you can innately solve them the moment you step in. "Oh it wants me to make a bridge up there and then also climb up that other piece", that's all the thinking you need. You don't actually need to "engineer" anything. And I seriously wouldn't even call myself that smart.I would genuinely and honestly rather remove the entire build/craft system from the game and have had more dungeons, more useful items, more cool armor sets, more weapons, better combat, and better enemies. Are you actually sitting there and telling me you'd rather have the crafting instead of everything else being better? Are you actually?
>>738131892Much like Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild, the game ruins its experience much earlier. Regardless of how prominent the building mechanic is, it doesn't really feel like it's part of the game, it just feels like an idle time waster that is also there. If I had to point out the problem, I would say that the current Zelda team is good at making products, but only have secondhand descriptions of what a game actually is.>>738132102The game has a building mechanic that it ostensibly wants you to experiment with, but the interface for it is ass and the game design for it actively punishes you for using it, so most people optimize any and all play out of the system.>>738133828There was no fun to optimize away.
>>738134923But I played BotW and loved TotK, and so did the majority of people who bought both considering how it BTFO'd traditional Zelda games in sales. I think the game simply isn't for you, and that's okay, but you should really open up your mind more.
>well, it wasn't fun to me>why are you making a monster truck when the hover bike is more convenient>I said there's no point, bro>STOP HAVING FUN
>>738131892Why did everyone copy that build so hard? It might be the most cost-efficient flying vehicle for what you put in and what you get. But the 4-fan builds or other builds are much more practical and control better. So unless you're starving for stones, the 2-fan hover-bike is some real poverty-shit. Did people just monkey-see monkey-do copy this without even exploring other concepts?
>>738131892literal cognitohazard
I used the Item Dupe glitch to get Bombs and just threw those at all my problems. Also, Nintendo is gay as fuck for patching that out.
>>738133828Or maybe they did build their shabby catapult, or a trashy car, see it fall apart, had a laugh about it or two (or none) and moved on to build something actually useful... only to figure that this means building the simplest, most boring shit possible. You can only laugh so many times at your contraption falling apart, if you are older than a toddler, anon. But more fun to you.
>>738135123genuinely only a fucking paid marketer would bring up sales numbers in any situation as a defense. no shit the sequel to a very well received first title would sell fucking well its banking off the quality of the first game, you fucking retarded cihmp
>>738134923>I swear I'm not an autistic joyless retard>I just happen to have autism, find reasons to be constantly angry, and have mental retardationYou are a retard and you're not welcome here (on this planet). Neck yourself posthaste.
>>738135186Nobody is critiquing players for building trucks, this thread is about critiques of the game and how it rewards or punishes the player's time spent. You have to recenter the discussion on you to make sense of it because you don't get that
>>738131892Reminds me of how in Nuts n Bolts I eventually just stuck a rocket to the bottom of a chair and put stabilizing fins on it.
>>738135449you're laughing at the videogame equivalent of those wood toys that fall apart and you're calling anyone else a toddler?
>>738135456Holy meltie, did someone insulting the Depths of all things set you off that badly?
>enhances your kino
>>738135454>S-shil...! You're a shill!!!Yeah, I won.
>>738135519its actually insane how you can compare modern Zelda to Nuts n Bolts and Zelda fans will eat it up.
>>738131892its actually trhe oposse
>>738132026>optimized their fun awayit's ironic to say "midwit" when the spread of this phrase in its current meaning required people to literally stop reading the man's statement mid-sentence, or they would've understood it is a criticism of GAME DESIGN and not how any player engages with a game
>>738132508That's just the nature of humanity in general. Between building a tower to heaven or building a spaceship to heaven; which one sounds faster, easier, less costly, less work? Everyone with a sane mind will go for the spaceship instead of the tower. Human creativity can only go so far.
>>738131892Biggest problem with TOTK is they give you all these cool tools but the game is so easy that everything in the game is solved by hitting itwith a sword a bunch, or strapping two fans to a steering wheel. Enemies needed to be deadlier and vehicles and vehicle weapons need to be more effective to encourage their use.
>>738131892This thing ruined my experience, made it too easy to traverse everywhere (except for the times when i tried to make it and got the angles wrong)
>>738135967Did you try not making it and making something else????
if using the games mechanics ruins your game it's not a good game. fromsoft games
>>738132607Sure that could be a problem, if I haven't already walked all over the map back in BOTW, TOTK completely changed the way I approached travel and made the map feel fresh again
lol
>botw speedrun>glitchless teleportless impactlaunchless horseless>*cracks beer*yup, it's time for kino
>>738135217Like you said if your a broke bitch just starting the game its the best option and its so versatile that people just get use to its poor control since again, there's little to no repercussion to losing it due to its cost.
>>738135931I think making the enemies deadlier would make the combat even worse because the zonai tools were making for making traversal solutions but they were terrible for combat, the most elaborate combat abomination you can create will barely do more damage than any rusty sword fused with any silver enemy horn, it's just not worth wasting time building stuff for combat. If they made the enemies stronger they would also have to give you way better tools
>>738131892Why would you connect two floor buffers together?
>>738131892Oh, you discovered this build on your own? No? Oh so you're saying you just copied peoples build and are complaining? Then shut up.
They should have kept in Hearty Durians.
>>738132026this is cope
>>738135021>>738135050guns would have made the game actully fun
>Nintendo directly acknowledged this by posting their own more expensive to build hoverbike via QR code sharingI mean they know it ruins the game but some normies are probably loving it now
When I played totk I was very disappointed by how dishonest the physics simulation actually is, for example I put 2 fans on a boat because I thought I could steer it by activating one fan or the other, but it turns out fans simply apply a velocity vector in a specific direction and you can only either have all fans activated or not. Then they added this control stick which just completely ruins the game, ToTK fails at what it set out to do, you can blame it on the limitations of the console to run a more complex simulation without shitting the bed, but then again, why make it the main selling point of the game then?
The problem isn't the bike. It's that no one figured it out on their own
>>738137341>retard gets angry that reality doesn't work the way his retard brain expects it toTale as old as time
>>738137372it's trivial to come up with something that has an equivalent function, the amount of contraptions you can actually make with meaningfully different functions is very small because the systems simulted by this game are so simple.
>>738137134if it ruins the game is on them for developing such a vapid game that can be broken that easily.Sandboxes are just games filled with shallow busywork.
>>738131892I could never manage to build this perfectly aligned. It was always off by the slightest bit making it fly slightly to the side so I had to adjust direction all the time.
>>738137125I agree.
>>738131892It made the game better.
>>738131892>Noooooo you have to build unique creations for every situation you can't just use the most efficient design for everything>Haha hoverbike go vrrrrrrrrr
>>738137372I did, back when the rom leaked. So did everyone who asked themselves "How can I fly with the fewest components possible?"
>>738137372you can't be serious, the hoverbike is so utterly simple in both concept and execution to build that it's more surprising someone didn't come up with it on their own.Every friend I've spoken to about the game thought it on their own, and that sentiment is also very common online.
>>738133385The ENTIRETY of the game is to take to the skies in Pilotwings. Be it falling, hang gliding, parachuting, jump-jetting, or whatever. The entire point is to NOT touch the ground if you can help it.Apples and oranges you fucking wanker.
>>738138325>>738138186I believe you
>>738131892I only used it in the depths, because that was maybe the laziest overworld Nintendo has ever shat out, there was absolutely nothing interesting about trudging through that.In my defense I only resorted to the hoverboard after I failed repeatedly to build something with four wheels and suspension, the wheels just kept snapping off
>>738131892Damn, niggas be disguising landmines now cause dey too lazy to bury dem?
>>738132607Literally the exact same thing that happened to World of Warcraft when they introduced flying. All of the map and world design is immediately thrown in the trash because everyone just flies on auto-run to whatever place they've got marked on their maps.
>>738131892>entire game is piss easy>yet This is what ruined itThe game was shit from the start.
>>738133828It's the problem with everyone who hates open world games, they have no souls and cannot enjoy anything. All they do is bitch about optimization or play times instead of actually enjoying the game and having fun.Open world games have become a litmus test for the soul. Those who hate them have none.
>>738131892Totk could be fun if they let you unlock a unlimited battery upgrade
>>738132607Literally Xenoblade Andromeda when you unlock the mech. The map suddenly isn't interesting anymore. Cauldros felt boring to explore. yes, i know you can go there before you unlock the mech, but there's basically no point.
>>738131892The game already provides 4 fan flying machines on some sky islands. If reducing the fans by 50% breaks the game than it was already broken to begin with. The real retardation of this game is the attempt to make flying difficult to begin with. There are three devices to fly and two of them have been intentionally gimped because the autistic developers hate fun. The wing and the hot air balloon have unique mechanics and interaction that are completely wasted by these absolute troglodytes of developers.By the end of the game I can fly to the ceiling of the world but the balloon will still break after a few seconds just to ruin early game flight exploration. So much potential creativity wasted for no reason.
>>738139470I went to lengths writing posts advocating the wide adoption of flying mounts back in 2008 because I knew it would ruin the immersion and lower the quality of the game, with the intention that it would give better MMOs that knew it was a stupid idea a chance to shine.
>>738131892weeeeee I'm flying
>>738131892I did this on my 3rd playthrough because you really don't need to experience the depths more than once. The first time is great but after that it was just work.
