On paper this sounds like the most interesting multiplayer game ever made. Why doesn't it have tens of thousands of players?

Because it is ran but a bunch of armchair general and their sycophants. Devs do not moderate their game and believe their community can self govern. It's a hellscape of egos and report spam.

The game isn't well structured for simply jumping into whatever role you want.
Unless you're okay with submitting to clan politics / hierarchies, you're stuck being frontline infantry, because everything backline depends on clans lording over the raw resources. Frontline infantry is alright but doesn't really suffice to get you truly invested in the game since you're just a hapless recipient of logi shooting random people or doing random frontline jobs.

It doesn't help that thet last update fucked the games balance more than it already was. Wardens and Colonials are not symmetrical and rely on different advantages, and they completely forgot to give colonials any in the airborne update so wardens are just mopping the floor with the colonials at the moment.

Not sure why there's so many Russians on a North American server, but there's enough of them to tear down a forward base everyone has been working on to actually get the Cape captured so everyone can fucking move on, only for a cabal of goblins who come out at midnight to mass report it for griefing, leaving the area empty and the fight slogs on for another week. it's a miserable existence unless you just want to turn your brain off and run at enemy tanks indefinitely

That's why.

It's the same reason why their in development game similar but medieval called Anvil Empires is stuck in development hell. Not all ideas translate into video games well, a lot of these ideas are because the real life situation was brought about survival and not as entertainment that can be turned off.
Why play a bad building game with bad combat when you can play a good building game and a good combat game? And even better, these games don't have the possibility of losing your shit in the middle of the night and the possibility of all your hard work being used up by your team while you sleep.

There is Able and Charlie, both are global. So NA, CN, EU, and RU all play together.

It's like Eve Online, it's way more fun to hear about or think about then play.

t.thousands of hours in Foxhole and Eve

You've basically got to play for a hundred hours to get a solid hour of absolute kino, and that hour is better than anything else you'll find anywhere else, but it's still a big investment.
