How long did it take? I'm not sure I can stomach the grind for money in this game.
>>
>>738153287
around 200 hours for both but i fucked around a whole fucking lot.
>>
I really like the concept of the game but the dev is too hellbent on making some aspects frustrating so it's a missed opportunity on what could've been one of the most enjoyable eurojank games
>>
>>738155939
Right. Like why the hell you can't just buy another helmet? If you lose it and you have no idea where it is you have to pray for it to go under the ground so it can respawn at the landfill. And if you destroy your house by forgetting to turn off the stove you have to start another savegame. It encourages you to use with the editor or at least play it very safe.

it was semi popular here in 2016
kind of a cult classic thing outside of here

>>738155939
i made a fan trailer for it because i wanted more people to play the game and somehow that video got a million views. i wonder if topless ever saw it.

pretty much everything i did in that video got changed but that was not out of malice it's because those things weren't as realistic as he intended.

for a while in the early builds you had a lot of influence on your own meters, and you could make your own player die from fatigue by just spamming space for a minute. you couldn't even walk down the road to your house without dying of thirst, it was a little too punishing.
>>
>>738157259
i feel like losing the helmet can just be considered a debuff. if you can't find it then you just can't ride the bike around because of the risk of striking a bee and having it blind you (yes this is a real feature)

there was some thought put into what if you lost the car parts. this is one thing that can truly softlock the game. so everything can be replaced including the engine block.

there is also plenty of opportunity for cheating if you do find it a really frustrating experience. if you lost a specific object that is absolutely fucking you over without it, just download the save editor and find it on the map and either go get it or TP it to yourself.

i lost the camera once and i had absolutely no idea where it was but the map was telling me it was in the car and i literally could not find it. i didn't need the camera it was just driving me nuts. so i feel like looking this up wasn't cheating because it turned out it was clipped into the fucking handbrake and i actually didn't know that could happen so i guess i learned something new.

>friend buys me msc a few years back to stream while in voice chat because he's too lazy to just play the game himself
>could never really get into it
>think about why this is
>just now realize it's likely a combo of the controls being fairly obtuse for a game without a tutorial and the fact that he always asked me to stream it for him at odd hours of the day/middle of the night which only made the first problem even worse for me
i should give it another, fairer try later this week at a more reasonable time of day.
>>
>>738160791
i don't know why people think it's funny to rec MSC to each other by going in blind. it's a hella frustrating experience to go into blind. if you're anything less than an IRL mechanic or some kind of car giga autist then it's pretty much a wiki game. there's also at least 1 aspect of the game you're just never going to figure out on your own if you can't read finnish.

stuff like this will either get cleared up by browsing a wiki for 20 seconds, or after 1000 gameplay hours of experimentation and maybe getting lucky when it happens by accident. which of these scenarios is more likely depends on what type of gamer you are.
>>
msc is one of my favorite games. Last year I went down a rabbit hole with the vcr mod and designed a bunch of horror movie cases for the tapes. I wish I had screenshots on me Watching og evil dead on spooky night while the parents are gone for the summer is a vibe. Next time I might convert some late 80s-early 90s rally races.
I haven't played mwc yet, mostly because I'm tied up with other games but I have to admit I got the ick when I saw the steam disclaimer that they used ai music

My brother used to be like this but now that he works as an actual mechanic he doesn't have the patience to play this kind of thing anymore.

there's a toggle button for the AI music in the options. i don't think it's bad but you can def tell what it is.

he already used AI in my summer car for some paintings. people keep asking him why he just doesn't go ahead and replace that singular painting, the game is full of thousands of assets, how hard could it be to make just one more.

the short answer is the dev simply loves to fuck with people and AI is one of the most divisive topics on the planet right now, so winter car follows suit with that. there's paintings in the game that he made himself, with real paint and canvas, and you will not be able to tell which ones they are from the AI ones.

>>738162006
have fun anon
>>
>>738152829
Watching a swede's videos on it was much more fun than actually playing the tedium simulator ended up being. Even using a guide for building the car because I'm not a mechanic autist who knows every last retard detail of a knockoff of a japanese import sedan, everything else you can/have to do is just not interesting.
MWC at least has a reliable if unimpressive primary transit vehicle and you don't have to trek across half the world to do basic shopping, but then you have to contend with gacha rolling for parts for your project car, a shit tedium simulator job they patched out all the fun exploits from, and you're expected to pay bills every 3 days for both your shithole apartment and your vacant parents' house.

hanging out in the PSK at night is kino

>>738163030
in the early days of MSC the van was always available from the start before he attached a story line to it
once that was taken away i felt betrayed.

i feel like winter car can do with having the same long period of dev time as summer car did. it took 10 years of tweaking shit to be just right.

he's already backed down on the idea of nighttime being so dark it's impossible to see. we already have moonlight. maybe the bills do need to be nerfed, maybe there should be creative ways to reduce them. given that you can lose the main office job and the taxi job PERMANENTLY and the firewood jobs are RNG-based on how cold it is (how quickly they're burning through their firewood) maybe there are not enough ways to make money to pay such high bills etc.
>>
>>738163562
He's also on a shitty outdated version of unity with completely broken shaders that don't work, so it's no wonder the lighting is fucked. It's just odd how a handful of areas show serious levels of competence, while so many others (including the "I have no talent in making humans but don't want to buy asset store people" character models) are bafflingly incompetent.
I doubt the bills will ever be changed, just like the batteries lasting two hours IRL max, given they were problems in MSC and never touched the entire time that game was in dev.
>>
you know when you're working on your car and you're on the verge of giving up? you've been at it for hours and finally whatever is broken starts working and you break down in joy? that's heaven right there
>>
>>738163710
i tried playing MSC with a lot of mods and ended up coming to the conclusion with most of them that he is right and i was wrong to want to change things
i didn't really need tire racks, mops, extra food and beer to consume, lots of misc activities to do, other cars, or pretty grafisx.

the bills are part of the motivation to keep you moving and make money, because 90% of people were going to just treat this as a car building sim and not even try to survive, and jobs and the game as a whole was nerfed to the point it is to prevent you from earning and becoming rich so quickly that you cannot feel like it took as much time as it would in real life.

the old builds where i filled the garage with crates of beer with money i made legit were funny but made for a short experience

if the people are poorly made because you don't really care about their faces and details of strangers, then the feelings of stoicism from isolation come through nicely

i imagine the MC is kind of an autistic forrest gump type of guy who isn't that great with people anyway

some of this info became outdated over time as well and i can't recall exactly which details they are

>he's already backed down on the idea of nighttime being so dark it's impossible to see. we already have moonlight
That was such "haha I'm making an unfun annoying game on purpose" horseshit. Anyone who's lived anywhere with snow can tell you that it's much easier to see at night when everything's blanketed in white.

>game advertise as building a junk car from ground up and using it for rally racing
>99% of the game is working as an assembly worker for the entire day
>dev state you will never see the day light if you wageslave
>fucking up can get you fired
>you do this everyday if you want +3000 marks after two week of woking
>0.01% is burning down your house because you left the stove on to make coffee
How is this fun?
>>
>>738165687
i sorta wish snow was more realistic in the sense of accumulation and weight gain and not just whitewashed pixel rain that will lightly brush against your windshield as a texture. i know this to already be one of those features that gets hand-waved by "small indie studio prease understando"

tire pressure was also a major challenge for MSC

>>738165815
the game is not being made because it is fun, the game is being made because it must exist

idk getting drunk, pissing all over the gas station, and then dying rolling your car into a field is pretty fun

The dev said it's not supposed to be, that's the point of the game, to be somewhat what it feels to build and maintain a shitty car in your garage. You can pick better ways to earn money, though, so that's on you.
>>
>>738166889
you aren't forced to take the office job like that anon claims
it's something you could pull the trigger on later, immediately, or ignore forever because if you do start and stop showing up, you lose it forever
there's still different ways of making money, most are not obnoxiously boring

Why is this a genre of game anyway? Landlord Super, that one with the mushrooms, the Canadian version of the game, Long Drive, the clones of Long Drive... The intentionally janky survival sim. There's actually quite a lot of them now

I'm far from an expert in this genre autism thing but I remember back then there used to be these kind of games like goat simulator, surgeon simulator and so on. I think the idea is to have an unique experience, not necessarily fun or convenient like most games try to be but just something different. Like MSC is about being the owner of a shitty car in the middle of nowhere and fixing it yourself.
