After beating Moonlord, raise the vertical limit of the world. Let people go to the moon, which is an insane megadungeon that regenerates every time you start a new session. I would do this, but also add in a colosseum in the center of the arena that spawns buffed versions of all the bosses in the game, sometimes multiple at a time. So you can fight a boss rush for cosmetic prizes and cash and such.

revert reaver shark and revert meteor ore to be destructible with explosives.
i don't know what else i would do with a final update but those would be the two first things i would do.

i don't give a shit if it makes the game less fun for the nerds that have already played the game a thousand times. i would like it to be fun for the layman (me) that wants to feel the satisfaction from working my way towards a single great item, that allows me feel POWERFUL, if even for a moment.
OH YEAH, and revert the waterbolt so it has a *chance* to spawn in the dungeon surface. it didn't always spawn there, and that was supposed to be the balancing factor. anyone with a brain would understand this.
game balancing (the kind after the game is out) is usually pretty important, but you should never put it above fun in the priority list. that shit should be reserved for assfaggots and esports.

Remove classes/class damage entirely, all it does is facilitate limiting yourself, the most fun part of the game is where you don't need to optimize and all weapons serve their specific strategic niche.
Remove blanket "this item gives blanket DPS increase" and instead focus on accessories/armors giving very minor boons which add up over time. Maybe axe the armor system entirely just for accessories, because they facilitate more interesting game decision making?
Make worlds bigger by, at minimum, like 10x. Intersperse a lot of natural teleporters (pylons?) around like that one seed so it's not always a matter of "build skybridge to win" and you're exploring different pockets of your world.
You could cut like 75% of the items in this game (almost all of the aesthetic items, the crossover content, and a lot of needless "item at this tier for the sake of this item existing at this tier" stuff) without much consequence.
Movement accessories are nerfed across the board and paced across the entire playthrough; you only have flight/rapid movement at the VERY end of the game.
Introduce dozens more insane accessory-combining trees like the Fargo's Mod.
Fishing just gives fish and nothing more and has a minigame associated with it.
Temporary buffs are removed and are replaced with permanent minor buffs to your character.
Remove shimmer and just have easy craft/decrafting.
Inventory is infinite, removing all storage headaches.
All biomes/ores are present in the world at all times.
World wrapping.
Prefabbed NPC housing/arenas are scattered across the world and you can simply empty resources into it to construct it; maybe bosses can only be fought in these arenas?
The world continually opens up more and more as you progress, up until the very end of the game. Areas are made very spacious/dangerous to account for increased movement capabilities.
Also NPC weight gain mechanics. Extreme ones. Haha. Just a suggestion.

I'm probably describing a new game entirely.

Implement monster catching craftable objects so you can go and capture any enemy so they become your allies, captured enemies are unnafected by set bonuses and are exactly as strong the usual enemy is except they will follow you around, can draw aggro and take damage like a player and target nearby enemies for attacks, if their AI is simply bumping into stuff like bats/slimes they get a dash attack and become invulnerable while dashing.

Extra large worlds.

Early game mage weapons have faster projectiles, yes its not fair that ranger can shoot 9999999 arrows/musket balls but mage cant defend itself AND gets mana sickness for using its own attacks. That's retarded and is just kicking screaming fear of mage being good.

Change the structure of early world progression to be more about earning each biome through combat or something similar. Maybe like the Jungle or snow biome has a small fortress that you have to conquer before being able to get to the ocean on the side or the world or for the normal mobs to spawn gating your progression. If you go past the fortress the biome summons something to eat you alive similar to the dungeon guardian. The fortress doesn't have to be stupid hard since its early game but its more something to do with near beginner gear besides beating EoC.

Put structures in the world evil biomes on or just below the surface. They don't have to be homes or something dumb like that, but it's been like years and years since we've had crimson and the corrupt has been boring since the start, flesh out the biomes structurally.

I would restructure the progression. Make it into 3 or 4 larger tiers with a roughly constant power level within the tier. You have to do a few of the main bosses in the tier to progress but you can choose which ones. At the moment a lot of content is kinda pointless because you can assrush the boss and get way better gear. Change moonlord to only drop cosmetic/utility/meme items, not items that blow everything else out of the water.

I would also get rid of pylons and the neighbour/friends system and make a limited number of teleporters available earlier.

I would also get rid of torch luck (yes, missing a positive is the same as getting a negative, to me).

Remove all crossover content and generally trim the fat a bit.

Focus entirely on rebalancing all items. As it currently stands most weapons serve absolutely no purpose because at nearly any given point of progression there's something which is extremely easy to obtain and objectively better than almost everything else you can get. Power should be reflected by difficulty or rarity. Terraprisma is a perfect example. Give every boss which enrages a powerful weapon if you summon them in the enraged state. It's okay to give the player something extremely powerful which will last a long time if they accomplish a feat worthy of such a reward. Spending ten minutes underground with a water candle and battle potion to farm keys to spawn easily killed mimics is disproportionately rewarding and destroys the feel of progression in a game that used to have borderline perfect player progression.

TL;DR:
Bring all weapons to a roughly standardized level of power for the point of progression you're expected to obtain them and adjust power based on how rare or difficult the item is to obtain. Adjust current methods of acquisition.

Next I would add a dedicated Throwing class. There's no point using throwing weapons because there's no class for them.

It would also help to split Melee and True Melee classes.

They should also split the Summoner class that has many small minions, with a Conjurer class that has 1 big minion like the Stardust dragon.

Lastly they should remove the seeds. They add too much to 100% the game.
