The touchpads are shilled as the selling point of this but there are no games people are going to actually play with them>rts games or any pointer based gamesyou'd be retarded to play them without a mouse and keyboard>shooterssame as above, and you if you really need to cope with a controller, gyro already does the job>3d platformers or any other game where you actually do better with a controllertouchpads are completely useless on theseYou cannot come up with any real uses for this
>>738157558I play marvel rivals and halo infinite all the time with the trackpads. it’s insanely easy to crack headshots in tactical slayer(swat) and as punisher
why did they do it?

Aren't there other controllers you could be posting about?

>>738157558even if you're using gyro for a shooter, you can still use them for other things like a mouse just for menuing or a quick wheelrts with mouse regions is also very good. you can use a mouse region over the minimap on one pad and a mouse region over 80% of the screen or the other so you never lose track of the cursor while playing

I want to say they're neat to have, but I have a Steam Deck and I only ever use them for navigating the Desktop mode. There's no reason to use them on an actual desktop computer because I would have an actual mouse. I guess it's neat if you want to give your wrist a break? But that's more of a bonus than a selling point for a $100 controller.

I play oxygen not included, civ, crusader kings, and other turn-based or rtwp games where having the trackpad on my deck is significantly better than using a stickdon't have sour grapes because you are both too poor and too creatively bankrupt to imagine a scenario where a tool like this would be useful
>>738157558>itt poor person can't afford controller and complains about it for free on the internet
Notice how the entire thread is seething shills and not a single post actually mentioning a real scenario where the touchpads are anything but a worse experience
>>738157558People are crying about the price, but controllers already cost like 50dollars?100 dollars is literally something you make in half an hour?

>>738157890I don’t see how insulting me, personally, makes the trackpads any less awesome. when you get 50+ kills as punisher, I will respect your opinion the trackpads are also good for >driving sims (project cars with type 2 steering) >virtual d pad for fighting games (kind of broken/op for motion input, almost feels like cheating) >quickhacks slide and release to press in cyberpunk>assigning map zoom and scroll in any fallout but especially 76>radial menus in boomer shooters like quake >scroll wheel to zoom in and out in tabletop simulator

>>738157825You realize all shooters have aim assist at the competitive level for controllers, right? You CAN'T pull off flicker shots with a controller, or anything else really.You. Are. Retarded.
The best thing about these threads (which have been endless) is how easy it is to spot poors whose mommy buys them a console every 5 years so they don't own a steam desk and have never used one. It's shocking easy to spot the poors. >>738157558I use them a lot on my steam deck. Radial menus in the left pad, and mouse in the right. Map painting games are pretty nice on handheld, and it’s nice to be able to play games like the pre Skyrim TES games with a PC control scheme intuitively on a controller.

>>738172759Gyro is the best way to aim with a controller, everyone already knows this and any cheap controller already does thisStill inferior to a mouse of course, the cheating comes from games having aim assist when you use a controller and doing the whole aiming for you to over compensate for not using a mouse
>>738167609Dualsence edge replaceable sticks that cost $20?
>>738173335Well, i definitely didn't have aim assist since both were mouse, and game has no aim assist anyway.I don't agree it's worse than mouse, but it's a very, very close sidegrade situation. Mouse is firmer, less prone to nervous jitter fuckups and more stable, gyro is faster, a little more intuitive, frictionless, and pairs extremely well with flickstick, mouse joystick, or pad input, covering the weaknesses of ONLY gyro.In a battle between the 2, it'd be a REALLY close call, as you can make really good case for fridge advantages for both. The fact aimlab score of gyro left mouse in the dust makes me figure it's generally just better on gyro If you care to learn it. And the fact you basically have 3 methods to input mouse at once, provides immense flexibility. And that bit about learning curve is important: pole vaulting was done with forward jump for years, then someone did it backwards. He was looked at like an autistic moron for a while, but after wins, backwards became standard. I think this might be the case with gyro. Its looked at as fringe kinda now, but there's evidence its better.
>>738173690>I don't agree it's worse than mousethen you're wrong
>>738173751Aimlab blowing mouse out the water in >>738172759Doesn't lie dude. He even tested multiple and og steam controller was the worst ranking, with switch, and ds4 doing better and leaving mouse in the dust by the same factor mouse leaves JOYSTICK in the dust. That's really, really, really hard to argue against especially when he's infinitely more used to mouse than gyro, so is probably more proficient with mouse, but still demolished mouse scores. You can argue preferences, you can argue fringe benefits, but you really can't say mouse is objectively better with data like that.
>>738169138How about a controller that functions well AND looks good? Did you think about that?

>>738158379>Can I get this motorcycle but without the engine? I just want to use my legs.
>>738158379>can i get this burger without the patty?
>>738158379>Can I get this prostitute without the sex please?
>>738157686What does it mean though? What features work and which do not? I assume touchpads, gyro and the back sensors would be fucked but otherwise would work. Also you can add non-steam games to steam which might help with the issues since you're essentially starting up other exe with steam overlay (and pad functions) injected into the game.
>>738186851Lizard mode is basically a hard set fallback that enables mouse, limited keyboard, ect as a fallback if there's no drivers, like Android or Windows. I've also heard you can switch lizard mode into a sort of controller mode which mimics Xbox, but that's unconfirmed
>>738186851What is this means is essentially on Windows and macOS (and android chinkhelds with ARM, until they port the driver I guess) the only thing you can do with the gamepad is use it as a mouse. On linux not "everything works out of the box" outside of steam, but it's detected and can be used in applications that support it using SDL. An example for this is the dualsense where on linux, you can use the touchpad without any extra application as a mouse, and some emulators can detect the microphone button as an extra button you can bind whatever you want. On linux there's an application built for testing dualsense's haptics wirelessly. Honestly, just to shut some people up, if I was valve at least I would allow very standard xinput outside of steam on Windows. You don't get anything but the xbox controller functionality, no extra bindings, standard vibration but hey, at least you can play your fucking xbox goypass slop or your gog games that you surely bought with real money instead of just downloading them from the same 4 fucking sites.
>>738184905Indians live in a culture of aura-farming, so knowing that you are hated for simply being indian is devastating.
>>738187554I've heard rumors that lizard mode has a second mode to basically emulate an xbox controller, specifically for lizard mode. Unconfirmed but that would be a real hot poker in the ass of all the "xinput", plebs
>>738187716I don't know if that's true, I don't doubt that at some point Valve would end up doing this shit because there's just way too many people complaining about it and I doubt it's that fucking complicated to implement, but for now, what we have is just a fucking mouse outside of steam on proprietary OSes. Fun fact macOS is weird about this shit and if you connect a dualsense, it has more functionality than it has on Windows. For whatever reason because who the fuck plays games on macOS
>>738187716Also there's something to take note of: The functionality in this controller seems poorly documented or at least some reviewers hit snags that are not normal.Russ (Retro Game Corps) couldn't get the controller to go into bluetooth pairing mode after having it paired already. It should be an easy process but he couldn't fucking figure it out for some reason. Apparently that's not fully documented (or maybe it is and that's just him being a retard). There might be some functions nobody knows about (or some firmware update needed) because Valve didn't bother to document that shit and that would include a xinput mode, but I'm not trusting anything until I actually see it (and that might take a while because some of these fucking reviewers are generally useless)
>>738187971Maybe they knew they're shipping product without full support which is why they laid out how the gamepad updates work in their youtube video. Valve posted video.
>>738157686GabeN is pushing steam and steamOS in general. I suppose the strategy is to make the controller only work on their ecosystem so when retards buy it and realize it doesn't work in their other windows games like BNet or fitgirl, they give up and download via steam instead. Kind of ingenious, but it being priced at $99 is counterproductive to that goal imo.
>>738177291hmm, wonder where he gets his money
>>738188153Nothing new about firmware updates adding functionality either way, for instance Mobapad added keyboard and mouse shortcuts to bindings + switch 2 wake up mode to controllers that didn't have that shit just through firmware.
>>738174110Nah he's right. Trackpads and gyro will never be close to mouse. No pros use it in any real competitive setting and never will. Now your premptive cope will be>they are just ignorant and refuse to practice with it!But if was truly good people would migrate anyways like how FGC uses leverless and pad now.
>>738162870Games aren't allowed to do cool shit like that unless they're exclusive these days, so that they can work the same way on Xbox/Switch/PS controllers. That's why barely any games support gyro because the Xbox controllers don't support it.
>>738177291Poor people think wasting money means they are rich, but it only makes them feel that way while real rich people laugh at them. Look at temu: it sells nothing but cheap chink shit but marketed as extravagant. Their tagline is literally "shop like a millionaire" and normies flock to it because they think they are rich for buying boatloads of garbage with their hard earned paycheck.
>>738188364>Trackpads and gyro will never be close to mouse. No pros use it in any real competitive setting and never willWuts dishttps://youtu.be/6KizNUtSToA?
>>738188482>real competitive settingIf you can show me a team of gyro and trackpads winning an actual tournament I will consneed.
>>738188349I don't use any new hardware that would have something like that. Last gen of gamepads that I bought were for PS3 and one xbox compatible knockoff. I expect hardware to do what it's supposed to do and for any extended options to be supported from application installed on the system itself.
>>738188614Does it count if i show a single controller dude mopping a team of keyboard people??https://youtu.be/CSu4nAH1gm0?I hope this is good enough T.T
>>738188616Well things change and functionality can be added. I wish my old ass 360 controller got updates so that I would stop having this problem with dinput games where I could not bind the analog triggers properly, that'd help a whole lot. But it stayed that way always.
>>738188716Is that a tournament? I'm not asking for starladder. Even a meme one like IEM would do.
>>738177291Most of /v/ isn't going to mess around with a bunch of $80-$200 third party controllers. The people that use a bunch of controllers will have different points of reference.
>>738188856No, but its extremely impressive shooting I'd feel like a big dick Chad pulling off with any gun, and multiple people refuse to believe he's using a controller, or feel devastated they lost Honestly if that vid doesn't convince you literally nothing will, he pulls off absolutely disgusting snap shots.
>>7381578823 HOURS, WAKE UP
>>738187446>I've also heard you can switch lizard mode into a sort of controller mode which mimics Xbox, but that's unconfirmedThe way it works on Steam Deck is that you can customize what the controller does in "Desktop Mode", and those settings are saved to the controller and function as configured even when Steam is off.
>>738189141All it will take to convince me is a gyro+trackdpad team winning a tournament just like how in FGC you have pad and leverless players winning supermajors over fight sticks. But since you can't provide proof of that then I was right. There's no need to keep digging your hole any further.
>>738157686>why did they do it?valve showed their hand early they wanted to go toe to toe with windows with their steam machine and SteamOSstill retarded choice because the masses are not going to move to SteamOS when its not even ready for any system who other than the Steam Machine
>>738189395Lmao. So a hypothetical team of half gyro wouldn't be enough? You're nuts
>>738187554I think the issue with the xinput for the steam controller is that valve would have to pay for a license. Basically Volvo would have to pay microcock (their competitor) to implement it for the steam controller
>>738189592It literally emulates xinput in steam input and drivers. Also I HEAR that lizard mode has a second setting that's basically just Xbox controller emulation in lizard mode, which if true, ABSOLUTELY NEGATE anyone comparing Xbox to steam controller at that point. Not confirmed though.
>>738189592Do they really? There's a gorillion pads out there with xinput mode, surely there's something they can do?
>>738189741Nigga, I don't care what "you heard", post the source.
>>738189524You can't even show me half a team of gyro+trackpad winning IEM tho?
>>738189592I mean even $20 chink and jeet controllers have xinput so the license can't be that expensive. Valve are just jews.
whats the chances the first week the steam controller is out someone will make a xinput software for it to work on everything without steam that will be a one and done install
>>738189809You are confusing popularity with ability homie. I literally showed you a compilation which I suspect is better than/as good as ANYTHING you could hope to do, and you keep moving the goal posts that its not as good as mouse.Really, should I Matter how many? You asked if gyro is capable, NOT if its widely used by pros originally. I proved its capable. And I'm sure if I provided a full team of gyro competing, you'd STILL cope somehow.
>>738189998about three fiddy
>>738189998isnt that literally what happened for the original steam controller
>>738189775I believe valves answer is to use steam software for the controllers, since xinput doesn't support half the features of the controller anyway. If xinput support is the main concern, why even buy the controller in the first place
can you still use the trackpads if you're on xinput?
>>738157686Take the Bazzite pill
>>738189998Someone will code it using AI within 30minutes.
>>738190271that is probably what people are worrying about with custom xinput

>>738190678Oh shit I didn't realize
>>738190616It's not a heavy controller, this is a stupid meme. No one thinks the DualSense is heavy and they're the same weight.
>>738190687Honestly I don't care which as long as retards stop acting like its impossible. Its exhausting
Trackpads are more flexible, you don't really need, buttons, trackpads, and analog sticks. The buttons and sticks are there because using a trackpad is too abstract for most of the population to learn on their own. Gyro plus trackpads is realistically all you need. Most people can't actually figure out how to use the controller. Most of what you are reading is cope because of that. Next time you read a complaint, ask yourself, "can this person actually use and configure the trackpads and/or gyro"? The answer is no.
>>738190698nigga did you even read or watch anything?
>>738157686I have a laptop that I only use for gaming, and I run Ubuntu on it. Does it make sense to switch from Ubuntu to SteamOS?Or are they basically the same thing?

>>738190236I'm guessing it's for people who do use steam but sometimes they don't want to have the client open when playing gog games or anything of the sort.To me it seems like a nitpick unless your system is short on resources enough, and that this whole "I'm concerned about DRM but I use DRM sometimes anyways" is really fucking stupid to me but what do you know. Like people who refise to use anything but open source software on fucking Windows.
