Do you believe a title is always a huge factor for the success and popularity of games? Can you think of great games that suffered because of shitty titles? How much of the coolness of a title is owed to the coolness of the game? Can a shitty generic title be elevated by belonging to a great game? How would you describe or determine what makes a videogame title good or bad?
Naming a game is super important. Has to be search engine optimized, has to stand out, not long-winded.Your ass is not playing some bullshit called The Realm Of The Kings or Icons: Combat Arena, but you would play something called Elechead or Tres-bashers
>>738158117I did not play Trepang2 because of it
>>738158117I can't prove it, but Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom got raped and gaped by that title.
>>738158117>How would you describe or determine what makes a videogame title good or bad?It should be quick, impactful, and memorable. Hopefully it captures the feel of the game as well. A title probably means more to a breakout IP than it does an established series that's proven itself. A good title may get you an initial investigatory click that otherwise wouldn't have happened.I'd remember though in the end it probably serves as a dust jacket or nice cover for a book than anything, hardly contributing to the value of its contents in the end other than maybe pulling a clap or realization towards the end with a twist or title drop.>Can you think of great games that suffered because of shitty titles?Pathologic 2 springs to mind. It was a fantastic game, but the two in the title only served to turn people off since it's almost entirely a full remake of the first a decade plus later.Dumb meme shit titles will quickly get you a small dumb meme shit audience, but that probably cripples its potential. On the contrary to all this though as another point of consideration, you have the Jap light novel naming convention where they're often longwinded expressions that include the main story hook to advertise how it's different.
niggas rate my titles>SLASH & BURN>moonveil>BAD TO THE BONE
>>738158703>ut you would play something called Elechead that sounds awfu->https://store.steampowered.com/app/1456880/ElecHead/>zero text on steam store>1283 reviewsi stand corrected
>>738158117giga important, I refuse to play the legend of heroes because of that (and beside the fact that it seems to be a series of generic games being churned out yearly)
>>738158117>Do you believe a title is always a huge factor for the success and popularity of games? It's important sales wise, all you have to do is Halo in the title and a game in a completely different genre will sell. You have to make a meme with the title. Halo title creates a meme because it's the name of the setting and there's a big image of the Halo on the boxart. Halo is mediocre but has excellent brand recognition.>Can you think of great games that suffered because of shitty titles?Gothic and Risen probably didn't sell as well as they could have because the titles are generic and irrelevant. Ironic because these titles were probably chosen for marketing. Gothic might have been better as Lockdown, Risen as Stranded, because these are also both one word stylish titles that better convey what the experience is.>How much of the coolness of a title is owed to the coolness of the game?If by coolness you mean quality, absolutely zero but if by coolness you mean recognition it's important. Part of why The Golden Compass sold so well is because it has a short, easy to remember title that represents the plot hook. Same with the name of the series, His Dark Materials, it has intrigue baked into the title. If you were to name it something like The Talking Armored Polar Bears of The North, you run the risk of the title not being easily verbally repeatable and coming across as uncool or ridiculous to people who haven't heard of the series.>Can a shitty generic title be elevated by belonging to a great game?Yes, also with Gothic and Risen. Both have legendary status among a niche crowd of game connoisseurs but the titles are generic and don't have much to do with the content unless you're reaching by stretching the definition of the generic words.>How would you describe or determine what makes a videogame title good or bad?It needs to be a concise buzzword thatA: Is relevant to the contentB: Sounds cool and catchyC: Is memeable with an associated image
>>738160172You should make a game called BAD and follow it up with BAD 2: The Bone
