Does Oblivion have better writing than Skyrim?
>>
I have very little hours into Oblivion compared with Skyrim but I would say yes. Some of the quests have been top, particularly the one with the paranoid schizo bosmer in Skingrad.

Oblivion has better gameplay and roleplaying but not by much
The writing is still sophomoric as fuck and gets dabbed on by a shitty polish game from 2007
>>
>>738161842
It’s bogged down by the cheesy voice acting
>>
Depends on what you mean? I think the Guild Quests were written better, yea. Even some of the more light hearted ones like the Thieves Guild were far better intertwined with the gameplay and mechanics of Oblivion than anything in Skyrim.

They're both bad but in different ways. Oblivion writing is retarded nonsense, Skyrim writing is just dull and boring.

I see. Well, I tried replaying Skyrim recently and I was surprised by how flat and boring the writing was. Every interaction I had with NPCs felt incredibly soulless. The game was way better in my head. Never played any of the other entries but I was willing to give Morrowind and Oblivion a try. For what I've seen Morrowind seems to be the only one with good writing.

I think retarded nonsense is better than dull and boring at least. Oblivion had character. Skyrim feels like a blank slate. It feels like Todd saw Oblivion as a mistake when all it needed was refinement.

Morrowind has the best story writing in the series but the NPCs are mostly walking text dumps. There are a handful of good characters but they're the exception. Don't expect conversations with dialogue options. Not that kind of game.

For Oblivion NPCs, they are mostly remembered for being endearingly retarded and silly.

Both have shit main stories, lets be real.
Oblivion has more consistently well written side questlines, though I feel people exaggerate how much worse Skyrim's are.
>>
One of the Oblivion's strengths is that it has a lot of memorable characters.
This is hard to understand at a glance because half of those characters are visual carbon copies of each other and voiced by the same 8 people, but it's true.

the main storylines of both games are dreadful. i think skyrim's is a little better. skyrim at least has stuff with the imperial/stormcloak civil war going on, and the dragon lore is a bit more involved. by contrast everything about the oblivion gates feels very shallow, there just isnt a lot of politics or lore in the storyline, not much happening.

people really love oblivion's sidequests, but i think the bad main quest hurts oblivion a lot and i still feel skyrim comes out on top. skyrim's world has more thought put into it, even if just a little.

Running and jumping in this game is incredibly fun. I recommend a pacifist playthrough with one or two companions.

Daily reminder that Mankar Camoran was the only genuinely based character in Oblivion and the Septim Empire are a bunch of coping usurpers.
If you actually read the Mythic Dawn Commentaries instead of just spamming left-click on scamps, you’d realize Mankar took the ultimate Gnostic redpill.
>be Aedra
>betray the absolute chad Lorkhan
>steal his realm (Mundus is literally a Daedric plane, read the lore plebs)
>trap everyone in a shitty, decaying meat prison governed by linear time
>demand worship for it
The entire universe as you know it is a massive Aedric psyop.
>enter Mankar
>realizes mortality is cringe and the "Divines" are just squatters
>figures out Nu-mantia, which is basically waking up from the Matrix by destroying your own ego and flesh
>summons the four-armed god of destruction not because he's an edgy villain, but because Dagon is the only one who can smash the simulation
>Oblivion Crisis was literally a liberation movement
While Vivec was busy writing weird hermaphroditic fanfiction about himself and making you read 36 lessons of pure cope to achieve CHIM, Mankar found the glitchless speedrun strat to godhood. He literally walked the Prolix Tower by weaponizing chaos.
Dagon did nothing wrong. The Eight Divines are a hoax. Stop defending your own prison, imperials.

>36 lessons of pure cope
either have access to the magical plot maguffin, or don't. part he seems to omit is his entire divinity is based on having dwemer tech that nobody else has, basically its pure luck
>Oblivion Crisis was literally a liberation movement
so you're saying the hero of kvatch was a dumb jobber who ended up keeping everyone imprisoned within the system, then goes crazy and becomes an evil tormentor demon when he becomes the daedric prince of madness?
>>
>>738161842
a little bit but it's not like either game is particularly spectacular in that regard. it's like the bar for oblivion is resting on the ground and the bar for skyrim is in the sewers.

You would end up as one of those cultists he tortured in Paradise
