As a former player, no the scene is on life support. All the hype has fizzled out under an ocean of stagnancy, and most of the kings of that era know full well that's the case. People will bring up a few notable figures bringing low-mid tiers into high tourney rankings as an example of modern hype, but that's all a joke. It has little to do with inventive skill or new tech and more to do with more and more veterans retiring and an overwhelming amount of skill bleeding out of the scene on a near objective level.

It's possible that one day it could come back but in order for that to happen it would have to be generational. Every Melee pro of the last two decades who has drawn breath will have to die off and the game will need full rediscovery in order to succeed. Melee is very much a game at its ultimate end stage. Only a true apocalypse can save it now.
