Why isn’t Fatal Frame ever discussed? I honestly know next to nothing about it other than it has hot chicks and you fight ghosts with a camera I think? Are these games any good? Why aren’t they as popular as SH or RE?
>Why isn’t Fatal Frame ever discussed? Its actually good. /v/ only likes bad games.
>>738167492Because its lame. Its not a BAD game but its not a good game and noone gives a shit since its been more than 6 months since release. Basically a spooky Pragmata
>>738167864so pragmata will be forgotten too?
>>738167864you're thinking about only the 2nd game. The rest of the series doesn't play like that.
>>738167940Yes anon. All mid shit is forgotten
Fatal Frame is reasonably well discussed if you can get it going, but ever since 5 it's attracted some very tiring tertiaries, people who really want to bullshit the series as a whole over that game's questionable relationship. The people here that like it do really like it though.>I honestly know next to nothing about it other than it has hot chicks and you fight ghosts with a camera I think? Are these games any good? Why aren’t they as popular as SH or RE?In a lump sum answer, they are pretty good in a AA game sense, but they are also unapologetically Japanese. These are not mass appeal titles by any means, they assume you're in for slow burn pacing and folkloric storytelling. The combat systems are some of the most engaging in the history of horror games, and through its main gimmick of waiting until an enemy is in your face to maximize damage, finds a well executed balance between reflexive and assertive, it's a game that's constantly checking your nerves and panic reflexes. Good shit if you can get into it but again, it's not for everyone.
I've played a bit of 1 & 3. They pretty spooky
mmmh pretty Japanese girls...
1 > 3 > 2 > 2R > 5 > 4The new remake is definitely the best game since 3...on NG+. The initial playthrough is not only rough with its completely unupgraded camera, but effectively a glorified tutorial aside from that. Nightmare playthroughs are much more fun, but even then I'd never dream of starting one off from scratch just because of how bad the camera feels without some of the essential upgrades. It goes places, but not without an upfront slog. I think the combat evolves to be better than 2's but 2 is a near perfectly paced game, it doesn't have to jump through any hoops to get good and for that, it's the better overall entry.
>>738168549I also like cute Japanese girls. Need to play the first one but I’m to lazy to emulate why aren’t these game easier to play on modern console KT take my
they're alright but its strictly jap horrorshit gets monotonous too and it doesnt help that the stories aren't that good
>>738168750>4 that lowSmhtbhfam
>>738168934I love every game, but 4 plays the worst out of any of them. If I could rank it by just atmosphere or story, it'd be MUCH higher as I think the game excels in those regards. I would even say Moonlight Syndrome is the scariest calamity in the series. It has great qualities, but it's the slower, simpler gameplay compared to the others that drags it that low.
>>738167492>Games are a million years old>Never go on sale for more than like 25% at the mostBecause the nips are incredibly greedy with this one series for some reason
>>738169180The ones that are actually "a million years old" are still on the PS3 store for $10 a pop.
>>738167492FF1-3 are top-tier horror games, easily some of the best in the genre. 5 is garbage, and I haven't played 4.
>>738167492so just as anon >>738168256 said, it's Japanese as fuck and targeted towards Japanese audience and weebs>those who give a fuck about more than anime on crunchyrollstorytelling is a prime feature of the series with unique gameplay that doesn't change much throughout the series, you just point and click and the right time, it's fun and keeps the tension when ghosts start to disappear and appear out of nowhere or suddenly rush when up close, generally very fun gameplay.>>738168750I would put 2 above 3 just for the retarded fucking miasma and the story being kind of weak>muh bf, don't go you, waaaaaand annoying back and forth between the house and the nightmare, they tried to make the house some sort of a hub, but it turned out not to be much interesting outside of few jumpscares and interactions with cat outside from that>4 is just cute girl fest with a great story and atmosphere ruined by lame gameplay, because they wanted to experiment with Wii and reach broader audience
>>7381697602 and 3 are definitely trade off in my eyes. The thing I don't like much about 2 is its shift away from charge-based combat to distance-based, it changes the dynamic of combat in a way that ruins a lot of the tension for me. That said, it's an immaculate game in pretty much every other way. 3's definitely more fragmented and not all of its experiments work (fuck Kei and the miasma if I'm being honest), but when it sticks to the basics it's arguably the most polished the series ever gets, plus I actually like how expansive the Manor of Sleep is. It's on and off, but it's fucking ON when it's on.
Fatal Frame is neat.Copying the camera snap mechanic is too hard for most devs because most devs suck. Sort of like how you don't ever get Hitman clones despite Hitman being really good, or have an entire genre of GTA clones despite how GTA sells gangbusters.Think the last one was an entry made for the Wii, so yeah Fatal Frame is pretty much in mothballs nowadays.
>>738170150>Think the last one was an entry made for the WiiSince the Wii there was a new entry for WiiU in 2014, a wide release remaster of that game in 2021, a wide release remaster of the first Wii game (not the Wii remake of 2) in 2023 with an official English translation, and a second remake of 2 that came out March of this year. There hasn't been a new entry in 12 years but it's not exactly "mothballs" either.
>>738168750I'd say1>2>3>5>4 (so, almost in agreement with you).I think 3 had better gameplay, but I much preferred the story in 2.4 had a boring protagonist, forgettable central mystery and was way, way too easy. Still a good game, but definitely the worst for me.FF5 had flaws, but at least it made a stronger impression with its narrative concepts and ghosts.
>>738170150>or have an entire genre of GTA clonesBro what? There was a shitload of urban open world games made during the 2000s, Mafia, Saint Row, True Crime... just on the top of my mind
>>738170438>FF5>narrative conceptsPeople get so stuck on 5's dumbass plot twist in the second half that it apparently overrides how half the cast is suicidally depressed. I guess it's fair considering how off the rails it is, but I really wish the game didn't sabotage itself in the ways that it does.
>>738168256I miss Rei...
4 had the best atmosphere and lore in a horror game. It's so underrated
Fatal Frame 2 Remake is so utterly sanitized, censored, and utterly butchered in terms of unlockable outfits compared to the original that it makes the censorship/outfit removal in 5 look tame in comparison. I am actually in awe at how much of a collective pass the industry and the players gave this shit when it released. I think the Horizon games with the ginger carpet-muncher had better unlockable ouftits than whatever the fuck Tecmo-Koei thought would pass as NG+ content. 2 > 3 > 1 > 5 > dog turd > FF2R (haven't played 4 yet)
>>738172243Oh, I haven't even mentioned that 60% of the outfits you can unlock aren't even possible to get without ponying up for the deluxe edition or via pre-ordering it. So not only did they censor the fuck out of everything and remove all the good shit, they made you pay for the most boring shit imaginable as a replacement. At last 5 gave you the boring shit prepackaged with the motherfucking game.
>>738172243>Fatal Frame 2 Remake is so utterly sanitized, censored, and utterly butcheredIt's almost a given these days that a remake/remaster is always worse than the original in every way but accessibility
>>738170438>>738168750>4 is the worst one>It's the one I blindly purchased to get into the seriesHey, at least it's only up from here and it being the easiest might be a plus in this case.
>>738172243My issue wasn't the censorship. Yeah that's bad but the game is damn near unplayable compared to the original. Almost every aspect is a downgrade. The camera combat not being as audio focused with the stupid fucking circles now on the camera. You snap to doors in this jank teleporting way. The cloth physics being a massive downgrade where the original still looks good by today's standards. Worst of all the third person aspect is genuinely fucking insulting to the original design. You're supposed to be fucking spooked by all the amazing fixed camera angles. You want to see? Look down the direct barrel of the camera while you hear the creepy creaking radio static because there's a ghost near you. Fuck all this tourist shit in modern survival horror.
>>738167492I used to rank Maiden of Black Water above the fourth entry, because the fourth games actual gameplay was mind numbingly boring and easy. But then I replayed Black Water, and what a mess of a story that one is. Basically just someones barely disguised fetishes all in one game, from wet t-shirts, to incest, a crazy amount of voyeurism, cross dressing tomboys. Still a decent game though.
>>738174075>Basically just someones barely disguised fetishes all in one game,I dunno man, it all depends on the executionSilent Hill is covertly about circumcision and it's still a masterpiece
>>738174075get the fuck off 4chan, Avalanche Reviews
FF4 is art
>>738174773What’s wrong with circumcision?
1 > 3 > 2 > 4 > 5
>>738175521That discussion would quickly spiral off topic.Just think of it like the themes brought up in Silent Hill F.To some people it's nothing bad, to others it reflects a traumatic past.
>>738167492That games has dogshit gameplay most boring game ever made
