If it doesn't have xinput how hard it will be to map or use with all the emulators?

It'll emulate xinput in linux but not windows.

just set the desktop layout to a regular gamepad template and it'll behave like an xbox pad so long as steam is open in the background.

My steam controller arrived last night and is working just fine without xinput annoying everything and bogging it down.

Erm... you only need one, Retroarch which is on Steam!

Literally works on windows, just add emulator as non steam game, set controller preset to gamepad. Literally finished for 90% of games. Weird shit like ds may take more tweaks but very little.

use scsi or steamcontrollertools, and or steamdecktools to set lizard mode as xinput or ds4

this particular method for reprogramming lizard mode is over a decade old. it is also how you make steam decks work in windows

Valve isn't do anything to make xbox controllers be useless bricks. They are using software where capabilities of their own hardware are expanded.

Massive, massive difference dude ...

That's what was so crap, ross in that video had a perfectly good controller that worked, but Microsoft pushed the standard of "xbox or nothing". And so games that mentioned controller only used xbox, despite a completely fine one in his hands

Steam did more to let xbox be useful on valve games that Microsoft ever did, and doesn't charge Microsoft to use steam input with their controllers.

if microsoft had made an universal api that unites all current and functional controllers from any company or manufacturer and brand with integrated glyphs and configured their input to any button with any combination of macro or turbo or press or release, alongside aligning mouse input on any input possible; steam input would not exist. the steam controller would not exist. microsoft would dominate the video game industry.

but they do not dominate the video game industry.

they can’t even make a good halo

Aside from using them for games that heavily rely on a mouse, I've also seen that you can assign them "swipe" motions to certain commands, like you could assign "swipe up" on the right pad to be assigned to the "last weapon used" key
someone even made a custom controller from the Steam Deck to use for Skate, using swipe commands for tricks during jumps

also in the announement video they show that you can create custom radial menus on the touchpad, so you could assign numbers 1-9 on a radial menu on one of the touchpads to have a quick weapon select for shooters

What the fuck am I reading? There is no difference between pirating console games on Linux compared to Windows, aside from Linux emulators usually always being better.
When it comes to PC games it's similar. You're supposed to run Windows games on Linux through Proton or Wine. So it's the same shit aside from compatibility issues in a handful of games.

The short answer is that XInput is an antiquated piece of shit that's now 2 decades out of modern technology. Its something that was put together in the Xbox360 era for fuck's sake! MS even has a successor, GameInput that SHOULD be able to handle things like gyro, touchpads etc.. but of course they haven't bothered to create new gamepads that support this stuff - this is part of why cross platform titles don't 'expect' gyro, touchpad etc.. support because they know that everyone on an Xbox controller (or one of the many chinkware/jeetware 3rd party knockoffs that pretend to be one) won't be able to support it.

Steam Controller will be fine on both Windows and Linux. On Linux we know it has a kernel module for independent SDL support. Most emulators also have SDL support which is how they added shit like Switch Pro or DualSense etc. Of course, through Steam itself it will have a ton of support and any games loaded there (including 3rd party) will be fine. The Steam Deck's input itself has been fine too both in and out of Steam games. If nothing else, someone will likely (perhaps even Valve) throw together a FOSS driver package/utility for the Steam Controller independent of Steam because all the pieces are already there even pre-launch, yet because some idiot reviewers are having a shitfit with a pre-launch piece of hardware and leading to controversy engagement faggotry over

Lets see how it develops. The initial surge will be high, but they likely learned from the Deck sales to put together a system so that it won't sell out instantly and they release a second bundle in an hour or so if the first one sells out, and continues that way. I have to give Valve credit that pretty much since the initial Steam Deck LCD, they've been decent on hardware sales when it comes to high volume.

>>738203872
why would they do that when they hate xinput and want to replace it with gameinput, tard?
>>
>>738203161
There are multiple ways to do so, but if your emu has other SDL controller gyro support (including Yuzu/Ryujinx forks) it will probably end up supporting the Steam Controller without issue, possibly after a small update.

>>738203360
I imagine it could; it will just take someone to merge the modules and support we see in Linux already and use of SDL generally will probably make it even easier.
>>
>>738168276
Not hard at all, seriously.
All you need to do his add the exe to your steam library. It is how I got emulators to recognize the switch pro controller without an xinput wrapper, which also has a xinput wrapper. You can also get pirated games to use proton linux with this method. You didn't here that from me.

Out of convivence for a controller meant for PC it should have support outside steam out of box especially when it is more expensive than the easier solution.

Not sure about Aus. I'm kind of surprised they let you buy 2 on the same account I thought they would have locked it to one per account to start. >>738206205
This is one thing that Steam really needs to fix. This message was the reason that I got my Steam Deck LCD in next fucking July instead of next March. They need to temporarily disable those repeat checkout flags when there's hardware or other limited quantity high desirability releases, or at least limit them to only COMPLETE, SUCCESSFUL orders. Keeping you from ordering 10 of the fucking things in a row with a bot is one thing, penalizing someone hammering the "please try again" checkout button is completely different.

Try using a browser, mobile app, or different client and see if you get the same thing - if its account wide, IP based, or client based.

Why do people keep asking for Xinput support instead of Dinput, anyways? At least with Dinput they could map gyro to additional axes and set the touchpads as separate mice. With Xinput you literally can't do shit for either.
>>
I just spent over 20 hours troubleshooting computer problems that ended up being hardware problems. I don't think Linux is for me because this experience made me want to jump out a window, I have enough problems on my hand with hardware without introducing software issues into the mix. Worse yet is how many solutions were shitty hacky fixes to something that may not even be my problem. I can't filter out all the bullshit without testing it.

Linux is actually easier to troubleshoot, because you can see the exact thing going wrong

I just don’t believe nearly anyone on here when they bitch about having Steam open in the background. There are GoG only buyers, but they are an extreme minority. There are so few games that don’t require a launcher that it’s very hard to believe anyone’s way of using Steam isn’t to have it launch on startup. Who opens and closes it when they launch and exit a game?
