Persona 3 had the best cast in the series even with half of them (males) not being able to be interacted with.They are the only ones that seems like a real group to me. It's the only one that had smaller friend groups among the cast. For example Mitsuru, Akihiko and Shinjiro were one group. They had history and were closer amongst each other then the rest of the group. Then you had the group of rookies: you, Junpei and Yukari, but even among that group Yukari couldnt stand Junpei. PLUS Jumpei wasnt your dick sucker, he was pissed at you because he saw you as a rival. Then there were girl groups: Yukari and Fuuka where friends, where Yukari and Mitsuru were rivals and Yukari was pissed at her. They didnt become close until late game. Compare that to persona 4 and persona 5 cast. Without the main protagonist, I cant see any of them hanging out. WTF is the dynamic between Chie and Rise? How about Ann and Futaba? They all revolve around the protagonist. The only characters that had some semblance of relationships in those games are Chie and Yukiko were bffs with Youske and Chie kinda being friends and in 5 Ann and Ryuji kinda know eachother from middle school...end rant/
