SH1R has the potential to be really good if they take time and optimize it unlike SH2R.
>>
I'm not a Silent Hill fan and haven't played the original or remake. Bloober is just terrible.
>>
I wanted to like cronos but the performance was terrible, I remember fiddling around with the settings to see why a random hallway made the fps drop significantly but it was the same shit on highest and lowest. Not touching their garbage

The Bethesda of Poland.
>>
>>738184303
They should stop making horror slop, Observer was actually good.
>>
>>738185805
As far as Bloober's walking sims go it was still terrible in every way, and Rutger Hauer couldn't save it.

Amazing. So this is the power of reddit hill.

I really want to like Cronos, but so far the combat hasn't been great. There's too few inventory slots to properly manage your arsenal, all the enemies are samey necromorph-lites without the horror element of the necromorphs themselves, and they come at you in very limited amounts at a time. The charging mechanic is also pretty stupid, you should never fire without charging ever, so it slows the combat down even more.

Maybe if the maps were larger and more open the combat wouldn't feel so bad, but for now it's just barely better than Callisto Protocol. Still, points to them for trying to make an actual not-Dead Space and none of that Punch-Out shit Callisto tried.
>>
SH2 remake is genuinely very good and it comes down to a matter of personal preference instead of there being an objective difference unlike something like RE3 remake.
Having said that the OG SH2's soundtrack is far superior because it's got that late 90's/early 2000's grunge.
>>
>>738186289
Game gets hectic the longer it goes.
>>
>>738186335
There is only 5 new track in the SH2 remake soundtrack all made by Yamaoka too. He lost his edge.
>>
>>738186289
Having to decide between armor upgrades, weapon upgrades, or more inventory slots certainly made the game more difficult than it had to be, but that's the core of survival horror games, isn't it? Going all the way back to RE1, with its stringent resource management? Bloober added an easy mode back in January, maybe that could address some of your issues with the game?
>>
>>738186113
And ?? Those are just cool easter eggs for fans of the original. I didn't play the OG but I do really like that they added those, hope it's the same in SH1 since I played that one.
>>
>>738187063
Seeing as how he talked about the charge mechanic and the level design your post just comes of as needlessly aggressive and you're clearly not up for any discussion about the game.

The point of resource management in RE games is that you need to balance puzzle solutions and weapons/ammo at all times. However, unlike Cronos, RE games loop around, so most often you have different routes inside the mansion/security complex you can take so it doesn't feel as backtracky as it could when you return to get an item you required to solve a puzzle. In Cronos, if you don't have inventory space for a key or god forbid a core, you have to backtrack through empty corridors until you reach a safe area, deposit your items, and then return through those same empty corridors to get that same key. That's pure backtracking just for the sake of backtracking.

Whenever you find a core, a cat or a valuable the game incentivizes you to immediately return to the safe area to deposit/sell them, because otherwise they will clog up your inventory and force you to return anyways. Then add in items like the boltcutters which you should always have on you and the inventory space becomes very limited. Granted you should spend your cores on inventory slots and then maybe suit integrity as all the other upgrades are useless. Maybe burn time also as it's your "OH SHIT" button.
>>
>>738186289
Basically you just pump all your cores into inventory upgrades and maybe some health towards the end. And the only weapon you need to upgrade/use is the pistol. I used the shotgun as a backup and it only had like 1 upgrade to the damage and 1 to the ammo capacity. I thought Cronos was pretty good. The story was so-so but the environments and setting were well done.
>>
>>738185756
Time to upgrade faggot.
>>
>>738187820
I'm using a 5070, the game has fps drops even on a 5090 so shut the fuck up and stop defending shit optimization

I've played both, the remake was okay on a surface level.
To me, it feels like a AAA Silent Hill 2, which is not what I wanted. It didn't feel soulful, the extended hotel and hospital part wasn't interesting, the new combat was weighty and satisfying but also out of place, it being buggy was a saving grace since fighting mobs wasn't supposed to be James' mainstay.
The new endings were interesting (I got them all) and I actually liked Bliss,
I'm not mad they made it it's unfair to pass it off as anything other than mediocre.

>>738187509
Reminds me of Signalis, which also had the added punishment of making your flashlight (dev might have changed this) or screenshot tool (admittedly I never used it) consume an item slot.
>>
>>738188119
Yeah the dev later on changed flashlight to not consume an inventory slot.

Comparing that sloppy copy of Lost Highway to the Mona Lisa is a insult to art in general.

I love the plot of Cronos. Probably the bleakest view of "human" future I've seen in recent years. If the people in the game knew what you are actually doing they would jump into the grinder just to not get scanned.

I managed without but I also spent a lot of time running from enemies.

I'm no philistine, but I clearly don't hate the remake as much as you.
I'll see how much I hate bloober once I finish the "remake" of my favorite all time game, MGS3.

>needlessly aggressive
I didn't mean for it to come off that way. I just didn't address the level design and charge mechanics because ... I didn't find either of them problematic? Cramped spaces and slow weaponry help immerse the player in the role of a large, slow, lumbering temporal diver plunging the depths of abandoned and overgrown facilities.
