I believe that we have one final chance to accept or reject God when we are standing before the gates of Heaven, when we are informed of the sins we committed in life and must either accept judgement and beg forgiveness, or deny that we should be judged for them (thus suggesting that God is wrong to judge us for it), and in the case of the latter that is what earns you a place in Hell.Repentance and atonement is more important than living without sin, because no human being but Christ was ever capable of living without sin, which is the crux of the reason for why Christ sacrificed Himself for us. Further, you cannot truly atone or repent without having full and total knowledge of what it means to be subservient to God, and what it means to be separate from Him, and only then can you make a conscious and knowing choice to be with Him or to depart from Him.
